I just got a montera peru two days ago. I had no idea what it was but I couldn’t walk away from those intense green and super cool leaves. I got a nice plant with three training legs already for only $16 at Home Depot in S. California, USA . The videos talk about the prices and I guess I got lucky. I can’t stop looking at it. - Thanks for the video.

I’ve had 3 Peru cuttings in sphag for months. One of them rooted after about 2 months & now that it has established in soil it is growing rapidly in my grow tent. The other 2 have done nothing in almost 6 months...ugh. One of them lost its leaf in the first 2 months & is now a wet stick. Since the leaf died it has produced a tiny growth point. But is doing nothing since. The third cutting’s leaf is slowly dying. It has a short aerial root that it came with but hasn’t grown & no other roots have developed. They’re all in a warm & very humid environment. I was actually planning to move them to perlite today. After seeing this, I’m definitely going to try it out 👍🏻 Edit: for reference, I paid $50 for 3 unrooted cuttings midsummer 2020. If the 2 that are being naughty end up dying, I guess I paid $50 for 1 unrooted cutting 🤦🏻♂️ Update - Confirmation! The perlite bag made all the difference. After 6 months of doing nothing in sphag, I’ve got a couple inches of root growth and active growth points after just 2 weeks in perlite. Incredible difference

Ughhh I have a cutting which I’ve been trying to root for the past FRIGGIN FIVE MONTHS! 🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️ I’ve tried everything, water, Leca, sphagnum, perlite (except that I kept the box open for fear of rot). Waited and waited and waited and he’s done nothing! Not only that..One of the two leaves is curling up and surely but steadily turning yellow around the edge. TBH I’m surprised it’s put up with me for this long 😖😫 I’m telling you, I’m giving it one more shot, exactly your way, and he better put out roots this time around or else...... I’m getting super frustrated over here. Any advice is more than welcome ❤️ Ps. I admire so much your talent to make everything green and root and bloom! Bless you!

Still have a few cutting left of my Peru. Unfortunately the mother plant struggled in my care. Then when I decided to cut them long vines which barely had leaves I've put them in water. Odd though some stems did get to have roots but rotted. Takes forever to get roots and now rot? What gives? I need answers. Some never took off though. So gonna try now to salvage these stems.
@peruperu-jj8zs4 жыл бұрын
Spagnum in a container works best. I've propagated about 30 leaf less node this way. I put spagnum(I guess perlite works as well) in a large plastic container and place it on a heat mat. Soil temperature of around 25 degrees really speed up the process. Especially in winter, they can wait until spring to root so I recommend heat mat. My house can go down to 5 degrees so heatmatt is a must.

I believe that humidity did the trick, not the perlite per se ;) Thats usually the case with propagating aroids
@betsybegonia4 жыл бұрын
I don't mean that the perlite itself is the trick. But submerging the whole thing in a bag or container of water would rot the leaves, and it's a better method than putting it in a glass of water.

@@betsybegonia Yes you are thinking of peat moss. Peat moss is decomposed sphagnum formed over millenia, thus not a renewable resource. What people typically use though is just dried spahgnum. That is definitely renewable; you can even grow them yourself.
