Hello everyone, in today's video we are going to learn how to cut and propagate sugar cane.
Sugar cane is a delicious food source to grow in your garden that grows easily in Florida.
The sugar cane varieties that I am propagating today are
Don Cinco - great sugar cane for juicing and chewing, produces thick canes
Asian Black - great cane for chewing or traditional juicing, very aesthetically beautiful.
Home Green- a classic Florida cane that produces very sweet juice and excellent for chewing as well.
It is important that you don't cut the sugar cane roots on the cane when propagating as you can potentially hurt the roots - it is important to cut in-between each root section.
Sugar cane in Florida actually loves flooded areas and grows in areas where it is very wet.
Sugar cane in Florida can also be used as a chop-n drop as it produces many leaves that can be used as mulch. Additionally, once you juice then cane it leaves you with a ton of bio-mass to re-use -- overall an amazing grass to utilize in your food forest.
All 3 varieties of sugar cane were purchased at Green Planet Farm LLC in Punta Gorda, Florida. I highly recommend you check out their sugar cane farm (by appointment only).
