We just watched an 8-minute ad, and I don't even care - that had me giggling the entire time! Also, I have one of the original roll-up Ifixit kits - I had it for .. probably 6 or 7 years, and it has let me fix pretty much everything I ever need to look at (computers, phones, tablets, did my water cooling upgrade for my PC). Definitely love their stuff!

Well played guys, well played. Tip for making the batteries in cheap calipers last longer - don't store them with the batteries installed. Even when the calipers are "off" they still draw from the battery (which good ones do as well, but it's a higher draw on the cheap ones) I have a bunch of cheap ones around, and since I learned that, I have some I've had for years with fairly frequent use that are still on the batteries they came with.

i just use a utility caliper for 99% of the stuff i do and it works for it most of the time. Same from Harbor Freight but the even cheaper plastic one. No batteries needed. When i need crazy precise( like 0.2-0.9mm) measurements i either eyeball it or bust out the Quinn caliper.

You missed the screwdriver magnetic lid also has squares inside to sort screws/small parts into its raised gridlines. I've had some not so great experiences when I was given a kit at my old job and it had 2 duplicate bits, iphone pentalobe bit stripped easy (screws are poorly engineered form the start; ifixit often has replacement screws in parts kits using more common screwdriver heads), and the flexible screwdriver extender broke internally under almost no force. Coworker's cases didn't have the same issues other than the iphone bits not holding up after a while. They used to have much weaker blue plastic pry tools that were pure garbage in the old set (none of us ever opened anything by their use; they broke first) with the black one being decent but the bad blue ones are replaced with a double ended tool that is actually useful. That was when the screwdriver kit put bits into rubber (wore out its ability to hold with regular use, print for which bits go where was easy to see) compared to foam (haven't had long term testing personally, bit locations are a small imprint into foam which are hard to see under lit magnification). The magnetic casing should continue to hold up much better than the old one where the lid and/or clasp was usually broken from harsher handling or normal wear/tear. Their quality of various things has mostly improved from what I've seen; screwdriver is debateable without the t-handle design and how much thicker it is but 'usually' more comfortable/useful. After leaving, I bought myself a kit when I had some upcoming family computer work to do and its been fine under its little use but I recommend getting higher quality replacement tools if you wear through these with use (minus the plastic pry tools, consider them consumable and if you treat them as delicate they last longer).

One more screw bit set to have is a Security Bit Set. Some manufactures use screws which do not allow them to be removed with a standard screwdriver bit. These security screwdrivers bits are designed to allow you to remove/replace this type of screw. They are sold at Harbor Freight part number 68459 and come with a 1/4 inch magnetic bit holder. Another screwdriver I'd like you to review is the Torque Screwdriver from EK. It's designed to prevent over tighting of PC screws.

I got an Ifixit kit for christmas a few years ago and I have saved my family, friends and myself thousands of dollars in electronic repairs and replacements by just fixing them myself. I did fry an Ipad once though lol. I shorted the socket that the display plugs into on the motherboard by somehow managing to plug the cable in crooked and crossing all the leads in the socket but that wasn't Ifixit's fault, that was a combination of being legally blind and thinking it would be actually be a good idea to try and fix an Ipad at 3 am never having done it before. I felt so bad at the time, but the computer was still intact so I cloned it onto a replacement and no data was lost thankfully.

I have to say, I absolutely love Ifixit, but I got the electronic screwdriver they made & it is really, really, really disappointing. It really sucks. It has zero torque, has a very cheap plastic feeling shell, mushy/spongy buttons that are sticky as well as simultaneously clicky. It's weird. It's less than $20, yet it doesn't even feel like it's worth $10. I got mine for free via a shipping flub by Amazon, and even for free I'm not sure I'll ever use this thing. I really wanted to like it, but it's just awful. I love almost all of Ifixit's gear, but I would avoid their electric screwdriver completely.

I have one of the kits myself. Found it more useful to work on my rc truck than a computer. As it had the important bits I needed.

i love what IFixit has done for the portable/sff tool market. some of the knock off kits are actually amazing for the price! if you want an ifixit kit on a budget then amazon has great alternatives!

I bought the Essential Electronics kit a long time ago, as it was cheap and seemed sufficient for a few minor repairs. I then bought the Mako kit as well, as it got way more bits and the screwdriver is aluminum instead of plastic and i've been quite happy with it! Buuut, i recently ended up buying the Manta kit too and it's fantastic. Comes with both the screwdriver from the Mako kit and a fullsize aluminum one as well as a BUNCH of bits, small bits for the small driver and standard sized bits for the big one. So if you got a good bitset for your bitscrewdriver/drill/electric screwdriver, you can use that with the big iFixit screwdriver as well, which is neat.
