What I can appreciate is the complete build tutorial, you don't see many "how to videos" coming from the maker of a kit. Also the safety tips for cutting out the windows is appreciated, as I know not everyone would initially think of that. That cutout is basically a guillotine if it lands on an unprotected foot. I would like to ask though if you can do a how to video if someone wants to add trim over your system to make it more aesthetically pleasing or if you have an subjections in what type of material you'd use if you did. Thanks for the video, will most likely use your kit at some point!

Especially with him working on the kit to join two containers together, he's making it a lot easier to make one. We might see a bigger upswing of container homes being built. I have to always say if you're interested in container homes ALWAYS look into INSOFAST best and easiest system for doing the inside of a container home.

Watch out for zoning by-laws. Recently I got refused to store a 20' container at a storage facility. Storage facility was also giving false advice on the by-law.

Can you use Flex Seal spray to cover the galvanized frame and rivets?

Yes. We use a gravel guard spray. Way cheaper and way better product. Buy it from our local automobile paint distributor.

Does the window frame kit come with a template like the Big Air 45s so that you can mark the end wall? Or how else do you know where to draw your outline???

It should come with a set of drawings to show you how to mark it. It is SUPER important to center the rough opening on outside corrugations. Please send us pictures before you cut of the marked hole if you are unsure. [e-mail]

Hi Container Guy! My husband and I found your kits last year while looking around for ways to easily install windows into containers (to convert). We were so excited to find you exist =) We bought 3 of your framing kits last year-- models that I think might be discontinued now... We just started to cut the holes and install them this past week (I know... it took us a while to get around to the project)...We ran into a few tiny problems and Im hoping yall might have solutions to help us. Some info on this container before I share the issue (to help you think about what might be the fix?): The container was on the property when we purchased our house a couple of years ago. It is SUPER beat up... rusty in some spots-- not ideal. But we didnt want to waste it so we decided to convert it into a studio. We think it has to be atleast 20 years old if not older. We kind of wonder if our container might be a non-standard box... maybe a super old model that was made a little diff from containers nowadays... (see our "snafu" below which might have something to do with it not being standard totally??) Essentially here is our first snafu: We bought the 36X36 window kit (in Jan of 2023). We cut the hole into our container. We measured everything out... and found that the corrugation seams were a teeny tiny wider than we would want to cut the hole (e.g., we wanted to cut the hole at 42.5 inches... but its probably more like 43 inches so that it would actually sit on the seams of the corrugation. When we put the window in-- we had to really bend some of the metal around to get it to sit flat (bc the metal is so beat up and dented in spots!). The window almost fits but the hole is just a tiny too wide. To be clear, the window DOES fit (yay!) and sits in the hole no problem and it does make contact on all sides... but it has some gaps at the top. Our question: is this something that yall have run into (maybe with weird non-stander boxes)? And are there some things yall have done to fix it? (So that we dont have to reinvent the wheel if yall already have some good ideas?) Lisa

How long does the almond silicone last? Is that enough to stop the water from coming in the container?

Almond is just the colour.. no almonds in it. It should be looked after in similar intervals to the sealants on an RV. 2lb closed cell spray foam insulation is the best water-seal.

Don't do it on the top like I did in the earlier videos. The top bulb seal is best on the bottom corrugations if you use it at all. Are you looking to use the CMW window kits? The V2 are pretty sweet. Send an email to [e-mail] and tell them Channing said to give you a deal to help with shipping

Dumb question time but - Are the kit sizes 1:1 with the size of the window I'd install? The video shows a 30 x 60 but the only kits you have online are smaller. If I go to the kits section of your page it only says 48" vs 42". It does not list the other measurement. If I go to your Amazon listing it does then say 42 x 30 or 48 x 30. Your site appears to sell vinyl windows but only lists it at 42 inches... I assume it would be 42 x 30 based on the other listings. So this is my long winded way of asking what size window or windows I should get for the kits.

Just a note: my end-wall corrugation doesn't line up to your measurements. To hit outside corrugations you would need around 48" or 36". Not sure if I can just use a side-wall kit for my end-wall as depth is different.

Our end wall window frames are 40" or 60" wide for that reason. The corrugations are also deeper and therefore the headers are deeper. Edit: Sorry I misread what you said at first. The rough opening is larger than the actual window. Add 4.5" or so to the window width to figure out RO width.

@@TheContainerGuyTV Yeah it is a little confusing, I was thinking you were giving the window dimensions. It's unfortunate that the size selection is limited... I'm looking to install a 36 x 50 inch window (taller than most of your options). So What I'm left with is creating my own frame out of angle iron. Do you have any opinions on using brazing instead of welding? My welder typically blows out the thin sheet steal if there's any rust (used container, rust all over) so I figured brazing would be a great way to seal it without the same level of heat.

@@oshavlfarms7239 if you're in the business of modifying containers and need multiple framing kits, we can build custom side frames for 50" tall windows. Don't weld. Pre-fabricate your frames, paint them, then install with rivets, screws, or bolts.

@@TheContainerGuyTV I am merely doing it for my farm. I have fabricated an entire steel utility structure that the container sits in (it houses solar equipment). I didn't really want to weld, hence brazing. Rivets are okay, but not ideal in my opinion as you then have to rely on sealant. If I was buying a prepared rivet frame, that might do, but if I'm doing all of the fabrication myself then I might as well secure it permanently, no?

@@oshavlfarms7239 yeah I would weld it in then. The end walls are 2mm thick vs side walls are 1.6mm thick so you shouldn't be too concerned about not getting a good weld. Make sure you grind off all the paint (inside and out) about an inch or so before welding. Sand off the new mild steel frame's mill scale then hit it with a zinc primer before your topcoat of paint.

Personally im not impressed with all that caulking on this design of frame. I'm planning out a container cabin and the exterior will be much more maintenance free then "caulk"

Instead of fixing caulking you'll be trying to weld 0.5mm of rusty sheet metal back to your HSS frame with spray foam insulation behind it because you burned all the paint off the first time and didn't coat it right afterwards. Been there done that. Tip: if you are welding. Paint prep is the ultimate priority. Make sure you Zinc primer then paint it with 2 coats of whatever you choose.
