Thank you-that was information I will need. Two questions-we get harsh winters here, so I assume I should cut it back at the end of its growing season before our winter hits? Also, during its prime growing season, how do I trim off the dead growth-you know, those blossoms that have shown color and then wilted away? I’ve been tracing the stem downward and cutting it there. Am I doing it correctly?

Can I do the same with dianthus? Mine looks so ratty and I think I should prune them.

Hey there! Pretty much the same thing. You want to give your dianthus a ground level haircut each year, if not twice per year as suggested by this helpful video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/m4KQY2OVlsaFnaM

Hi can i ask what if someone accidentally cut the stem that has flower in it (not fully bloom) if i put it in soil will it survive or not? 😔
@PowertotheFlower
@PowertotheFlower 3 жыл бұрын
Hi! The proportion of gaillardia is by root division or by seed. So it’s very unlikely the plant will root in and survive in the situation you describe. Good luck!

Can I do the same with scabious butterfly?

Yes, cutting back to 2-3” in Fall/Winter is the right thing to do to refresh. In our warm climate (USDA zone 9) I only cut back the top bit and leave a big puff of green over the winter...more like 5-6”. 👍🏻

What about dead heading the globes, from UK
@PowertotheFlower
@PowertotheFlower 3 жыл бұрын
For sure you can deadhead the globes! Follow the stem down to where it connects with the plant and cut it inside the foliage! 🇬🇧
