Simple video showing you how to dissasemble and clean a cyclone assembly on a Dyson DC08 Vacuum Cleaner.
One of the biggest reasons you start to get a build up in the radix assembly in the first place is because of reduced airflow due to filter wear. For peak performance and maximum machine lifespan I would change the washable filter every couple of years.
The part number for the washable filter is DDFILTD-1

you are the man! me mrs was doing my sweed in about the dyson packing in as it kept making a sound like a dump valve once you turned it on. so it started up and then a second later the second noise would begin ... nonetheless i changed the exahust washer as advised by dyson... but had no joy , thereafter i did the aforementioned as in the video above .. and hey presto. its back to like new by the grace of god.. ive had it nearly six years and find this is the best model by far as i got freinds with later models which are constantly giving them problems... once again thanks for the advice... priceless... saved me a £125 on a service charge call out from dyson!!

Cheers Alec I've given my DC08 some new pizazz with your excellent guide. I liked the bit about your visitors and your cleaning brush - that made me chuckle and I also like your intelligent slot finding screws that you just throw in and they find their way home. I could not have done it without your very clear and thoughtful video: I would never have found the screws for a start! With the help of your vids I managed to clean and change the motor in my DC08, thanks! Worth mentioning the white manifold piece is in two parts. You can gentle pull it apart, working around the edge towards the centre, gently unclipping it. There's a tricky triangular bit (you'll know when you see it) where you may need a needle or something to wedge it apart to avoid breaking it. Much easier to clean when it's in two parts. Mine looks like your brand new piece :)

I haven't done a DC23 for a while but from memory it is similar however most of the newer ones can be simply washed as they use a rubber gasket. Also the manifold has been revised / removed in later models and seems not to get blocked.

Hi Annie, The screwdriver I am using is a called a torx driver I think the one for this is size 15. You should be able to get one from any hardware store. Dont get one with different heads that you can swap because the 'knuckle' wont go down into the hole. You are best to get a medium blade length like 15-25cm long.

It makes a big difference if it hasn't been done before. You will normally find it starts to get blocked when the filter wears out because the air isn't flowing through as quick. Check your filter if it is more than a couple years old your vacuum will love you if it gets a new one.

If you know how to use a multimeter test the continuity from the plug to the cord reel it is likely broken at the very first part of the retract. If you want a suggestion for a bagged vacuum take a look at Nilfisk. They are well made and most of the range carry a 5yr warranty.

I guess you are right the funny thing is whilst I can fix any vacuum out there I dont conceptually understand a lot of the electronics and such in machines. The dyson is actually a pretty simple design but unfortunately I did not think of it so good on Mr Dyson. They dont cost much to make butthe thing is it mostly works excellent. The exception is certainly in areas where the is lost of very fine dust it puts too much pressure on the filter.

@sootie40 Hi Sootie, I haven't actually had a dc22 in for repair for some time so I am going from memory. I think you have to go in from the top. There should be 2 screws holding the handle down remove those the lift the handle up at the same time as sliding it forward. From there you can access another screw and you should be able to find the rest pretty easily. If this doesn't seem right send me a picture of the top and bottom of the assembly. I will do my best to answer you asap. Regards Alec

Many thanks. Still after doing it I notice succession loss in the connection between the radix and handle (esp. when holding up the DC08 while cleaning staircase, a gap between the handle and the radix appeared). On cleaning the yellow part pre-motor filter, with a compressor ( TIP use a wheel air compression at a tank station ) - this gap disappeared => change filter

Hiya. My white plastic cyclone manifold looks a little different from yours. Instead of the fluted holes, mine has a central tear drop shaped plastic piece in six of the holes. Four of them had hairs tangled on them that blocked the hole. At first I thought maybe they were bits of plastic that should have been removed in manufacture but now I'm not so sure. Why have them in only half the holes? Thanks for a very helpful video. I would have spent ages working out how to get it apart without your video.
