Disappointed with the haters. I have a new friend who's just getting in to cycling and she's afraid of pumping her tyres because she's never done it before. You always have to learn, no matter how trivial something might be to you now. To the haters: stfu and stop ruining this sport.

Oliver Charles negative comments from people about teaching new people the basics is the mindset of a clique. GCN has a teacher’s values. For cliques, the more you learn, the less you realize how little you know. Teachers remind us that it should be the opposite.

Viewers should keep in mind that the content at GCN is for everyone, including individuals who have no experience in cycling, let alone basic maintenance. Moreover, GCN works very hard and very honestly to produce these videos, it's their day job. So if you can't appreciate it, hold your peace.

From the novice to the snob. A truly democratic show. Imagine doing this task everyday, and not being boring or dull. Hi, I'm 74, and have been riding since I was 5, off and on (no pun). In 1984 I bought a beautiful, skinny-tire, high end road bike and rode it for about 20 years, thousands of miles. Then since 2007 or so I was just riding occasionally, on vacation on any conch bike available. This week I bought a new Schwinn Cabo cruiser bike, online. It arrived today and I had to put it together and then "adjust" everything. Four hours later, I'm done. I had to release air from the feont tire to get it on, Then I was unable to get rhe air pumped in again. Whether it was just pausing and starting over or watching the video. It's now ready to go and I took it for a spin. Now to install my lights, mirror, bell and basket and I'll be done.

It's wise to deflate your tyres if you carry your bike in the back of a hatchback. It gets warm in there and your inner tubes will explode.

They go fr8m 6.16kg thousands of dollar £££ bikes and special wind tunnel tour bikes to HOW TO INFLATE YOUR TIRES/TYRES???? And a childrens explanation no less. I find this very odd. As much as I enjoy this channel and that they are running out of topics (this one having been covered several time)..enduring commercials for companies and ways to improve ride times on the world's most expensive bikes that 99.9% of consumers don't need but still purchase.... (electronic shifting, more aerodynamic andlighter bikes that give you a worse workout) you can't have it both ways. If you are explaining the Tour, grams of weight saving, power meters and ways to improve timed by watts and miliseconds...YOU CAN'T HAVE A..."HOW TO INFLATE YOUR TIRE/TYRE" video. AND A introductory VERSION AT THAT.
@lisapet1608 жыл бұрын
Patrick Arredon I am relaxed and having fun and you seem not. +HaNooo You just illustrated how GCN can make broader range of topics and that's why they present some interest for sponsors and viewers alike. I hope every video GCN do from now on includes this as one of the two videos they link at the end...just to troll the haters. Actually idea for a future video: "How to NOT watch a youTube video". Seems to me that, while lots of people seems to be giving smart arse comments on how obvious it is to pump up tyres, those same people haven't figure out how to not click on a video if they think they don't want to or don't need to watch it. Surprisingly, no one has made this video yet.
@deborahelaine99855 жыл бұрын
That video is Much Needed. I was going to suggest that you label your videos Basic, Moderate and Advanced. Plenty of people who are at beginner levels need some moderately advanced information too. Maybe code the videos with combinations of Beginner - 1, Moderate - 2 and /or Advanced 3. If any of the advanced people can't tolerate a moderate level video or combination level rated, they don't deserve to see the information. The people complaining about this video are not even decent people. I feel sorry for anyone who has to live with them or work with them. I'm sure there are many advanced cyclists who are not like that. Their comments are noticeably missing from the comments under this video except when they're trying to help someone. These are the people who are truly loved by friends, family and coworkers, and thought of with respect and fondness.

How about a GCN does science on how much pressure is lost during an efficient pump removal because I know that not all the air you hear is from the pump hose.
@ethansloss68548 жыл бұрын
It's less than 1 PSI
@exe168 жыл бұрын
Depends on how much pressure is there to begin with. On MBT (pressures up to 60psi) it's barely noticeable, but on road bikes (110psi+) it may be up to 5psi if your pump is of the screw-type, from my experience.
@ethansloss68548 жыл бұрын

What kind of sandwich. This is important. Mitch - this video obviously wasn't meant for you. The sandwich video will be all about you.

Top tip, buy a decent pump, I've used a fairly cheap one and the lever is annoyingly stiff, I sliced my thumb on aero spokes trying to flip the flipping lever!!!! @GCN what pumps do you recommend (if your aloud to say)

I was baffled when I saw this hype of valve but I managed hah
@marvess8 жыл бұрын
1. Yes, it's entirely possible to bend the little stem of a Presta inner valve. Some brands/types are more prone to this than others.You can mostly prevent it by not screwing out the lock nut completely but leaving a bit of the stem at the end.... 2. When screwing in the lock nut, make sure not to overtighten as this may damage the rubber inner valve seal which will result in either a sort of a slow puncture or an instant catastrophic flat... 3. While we're on the subject, you are able to screw out/remove the inner valve construction (rubber inner seal, stem and lock nut + housing) from a Presta. For instance for inspection of the seal (now we all do that regularly, don't we !?). When re-installing, you should ideally tighten it with a special valve key....a rather inconspicuously looking, usually plastic, hard to find thingy that snugly fits over the inner valve with the sole purpose of tightening it without screwing it up entirely.....finger tightening will not work to full satisfaction, pliers will screw up your Presta and your day...Removing the dust cap will overtime result in slowly but surely loosening your inner valve, resulting in yet another, inexplicable slow puncture and screwed up ride....just a hint of a very mild Loctite on the inner valve thread (careful not to drown the stem or seal!) will save your day.

I learnt a lot from the video. I've owned many bikes, but none had a presta valve because they were just mountain or commuter bikes.

What is the gray on the valve stem? Is that something added on to prevent the rattling you typically hear over every damn bump in the road? I've been trying to find a way to deal with that.
@rantingwrench8 жыл бұрын
I always stick a little piece of electrical tape over them. Cut a length, make a little hole in the middle, stick the valve through then smooth onto each side of the rim (but not your brake tracks!). Only ever had this problem with deep carbon rims though.
@EnigmaticAnomaly8 жыл бұрын
Now that's a decent idea. I'm going to try that this afternoon. Thanks.
