Thank you for the consistent vids!! I went back to work Monday. It is soo difficult!! I’m trying to get my schedule together and my flange size right. I nurse baby when I’m home. I also have a 18month old, 5 yo, and 17yo. Soo I am EXHAUSTED. I also just got birth control soo I’m hoping I can keep my supply and breast feed my last baby for at least a year🙏🏾🤞🏾

I was wondering if I breastfeed can I skip that pumping session? I want to pump less and breastfeed more My son doesn’t seem to get full with my boobs but does take both bottle and boob. Plus only takes boob when it’s dark, in bed, quiet. Idk if he will eat if we are out in public anymore ☹️

This was an interesting video. I went from pumping ever 2-3 hours at 4mpp to giving myself permission to pump 5 times a day, understanding that my supply might be impacted. I was very emotional about this decision, prioritizing my mental health and enjoying my baby over maximizing my milk supply, but I thought my supply would dry up in a month. I’m pretty surprised that about a month later my supply has only dropped about 20%. This is substantial, but not the 100% I had expected. This video explains why and I appreciate the insight!

I finally found the right flange size and it really helped! I pump a lot more in the mornings and evenings than during the day, but try to never go more than 4Hrs during the day. I do go 8-10Hrs at night now that my guy is 8mo! So far my supply is still great :) I end up pumping 6-8times a day

I always pump after my baby eats a bottle or when I'm leaking/ feel full. My baby is 4 weeks old on Tuesday and he's eating 3 oz roughly every 3 to 4 hours. I don't always pump every 3 hours but I try not to go over 4. My supply just recently increased from 1 oz to 3 within the last 2 weeks. I hope it increases to meet his needs. And I also hope that I can get to pump less often. He was born early at 37 weeks due to medical reasons for induction. He'll latch but won't move milk well so I decided to pump but it is stressful.

I typically try to get 7 pumps in every day. Sometimes it’s only 5. I’m not a super producer but I’ve still been able to keep up with kiddo and we’re 4 months in.

Hey Allison I'm a first time mom and this might seem like a silly question I'm not sure 😅 but I've heard that people don't get their period while breastfeeding and if they do their milk supply will dip. Is this even true? And if it is do we have to pump more to get our supply up or hopefully when it is over our supply will come back?
@user-vo9kx3bn3f

How long does it take to increase your supply? Is it gradual or an ounce a week? Is it necessary to pump over night? Why does my milk supply not go up no matter how many times I pump?

I watched #2 twice and You say to be more efficient, but you don't say how to do that or any tips on what to do to be more efficient. Can you be more specific or point me to a video where you explain this. Through my experience, I can deduce maybe you're talking about being more hands on? Or making sure you have the right settings on the pump? I wish you would get more into the details though.

My understanding: Efficiency in this section means getting your breast completely emptied, so you're giving your body the signals it needs to produce the right amount of milk. It also means not letting your breasts wait around to get completely full, because that actually signals your body that Baby isn't using the milk you're producing. Efficiency, then, is mostly about giving your body clear signals. How to actually accomplish this is complicated, since it involves many factors (everything from timing to pump settings to flange size). A lot of her other videos troubleshoot these kinds of issues. That said, she uses the term 'efficient' to mean something different in the introduction, so I understand the confusion.

Good question! I’ll add this topic to my next batch of videos. There are a lot of things that go into it. A combination of a good pumping schedule, effective flange sizing, maximizing your letdowns, finding good settings for you, getting a good pump, and exploring any mental/emotional aspects holding you back.

I’m going back to work in 3 weeks. I’ve been breastfeeding & pumping at home daily but about 3-4 sessions on no particular schedule. Trying to stock freezer. I feel like once I get back to work I’ll have a better idea and may start the program as I exclusively breastfed my 3 other children. This is the first time going back to work and pumping.

I had a shit show with feeding my first(posterior tongue tie that wasn't diagnosed until after he still hadnt regained his birth weight at 1month even though I'd brought it up more than once because i have one ect) By the time that was resolved and he was feeding well from a bottle and starting to gain weight he refused the breast"but mama the bottle works". I never ended up with very high supply (not for lack of trying, although looking back my flanges were definitely too large and I exclusively used freemie cups which have drawbacks), but I had excellent storage capacity. My peak production was~26oz a day and the last month I pumped I averaged 22-24oz in 1 power session in the mornings😮.

At 6-12 weeks is when milk is established. Could I power pump and/or add extra pump sessions before milk is established to produce higher milk production?
@NewLittleLife
@NewLittleLife 4 ай бұрын
Yes potentially, but scheduling is only a small part of what makes pumping work well. Utilizing the supply and demand cycle is smart! But if supply is low and you don’t find the underlying cause, pumping more is only going to lead to burnout.

Do you have videos or guidance on how to remove milk efficiently? There isn’t really any detail about that aspect in this video and you mentioned linking to some helpful videos but I don’t see any links. I am especially interested in guidance on how to explore pump settings to find the best combination for me. Thank you!

We dive into this in detail inside our coaching program. There is a lot that goes into pumping efficiently, any it varies individual to individual! I do my best to give broad information and ideas in my KZbin videos, but there are so many nuances that it’s impossible to put in a 15 minute video 🙈 Do you want some individual help in learning all the ins and outs of pumping efficiently and finding what works best for you? If so, I’d love to chat! Https://www.newlittlelife.com/apply

Hi .. I was wondering if you could do a video on perceived insufficient milk phenomenon. I’m sure you’re aware of what it is, but I don’t feel like there’s any content available explaining it esp to new mothers/anyone on a breastfeeding journey .. some of the statistics and how it impacts different groups of people is a little disheartening

Very interesting and thanks for sharing! My baby is almost 5 months old and I’m only pumping 4x per day now since I went back to work! I pump between 32-35oz every day which is still the same amount I would get when I pumped 6x per day. But I started pumping when my baby was 2 weeks old was strict about pumping every 3 hours until at least 6 weeks. I stopped pumping in the middle of the night at that time but still fit 6 pump sessions in during daytime hours until baby was 3.5 months, when I cut back to 4x per day.

Can you share your schedule? I have dropped from every 3 hrs to every 4 now. But I am still getting up at the middle of night. It would be great to get at least 5 hrs of continuous sleep now that I am going back to work in a week.

Does capacity change over time? With our first I had to pump every 2 hours and barely had enough at the end. At first I had an oversupply, but I got pregnant and my supply tanked. I ended up miscarrying, but it never came back. This time I'm exclusively breastfeeding and pumping every 6 hours. My nighttime pump is around 12 ounces. 5-7 on each side. Going back to work part time seems to have messed with my supply. I'm terrified it will drop again. I currently have over 1,309 ounces in the deep freezer, but worry my baby won't be able to continue breastfeeding if my supply is less. I'm working on finding local families in need. I really want to have a full freezer of newer milk at 6 months when my supply tanked last time.

It can change pregnancy to pregnancy a bit, but sometimes it’s difficult to know what is low supply vs low storage capacity. Sometimes it doesn’t really matter which is which, as they have similar recommendations for solution. Does that make sense?

@@NewLittleLife I really wish I could, but I probably can't afford it. :( I'm currently only working part time because daycare is too expensive. I work 2 days every other week. I've only done this twice now since getting back from unpaid maternity leave. I would love help to navigate how to keep my supply up on those days. I have been keeping records of all my breastfeeding/pumping since baby got home from nicu.

I'm will be going back to work in 2 weeks and I'm so very nervous to go back. I'm an OB nurse and I know trying to figure how how and when to pump is going to be a challenge. I would love to be able to pump less and keep up with my supply. I pump about every 3hours for 40 min. If i could make my pump sessions more efficient I think I would be in a better position to go back to work.

I think you are 100% right with your assessment here! As a nurse too, I totally understand where you’re coming from, a 40 minute pumping session every 3 hours might be tricky to fit in around labouring patients 🙈 do you want some help maximizing your efficiency and making this transition smoother? I’d love to talk with you about what it looks like to work together long term. Here’s a link to apply, our calendar is usually about a week booked out so I encourage you have a look sooner than later. Figuring this out on maternity leave is almost always easier than back to work! But we’re here either way 💙 Https://www.newlittlelifelessons.com/pumping-for-working-moms-application
