Update on Ace - I have gotten him involved in playing some of the games kzbin.infoUgkx1_veP7CApJK_GWy_TczaMciuG64PqJeU and I can see a difference in his confidence already! My other dog played along and he became intrigued - now its a daily part of our routine - about 3 times a day we do the shell game and the muffin tin game. I am so grateful for coming upon your training techniques!

This is the way I recently potty trained my Chihuahua. I litter trained it, as opposed to letting it go outside, and it was by far the easiest and the best method I have ever used. So what I did was purchase a 24 X 18 wire doggy crate and put a doggy bed, a doggy blanket, and some doggy toys inside it. At the same time, I also purchased a 24 X 18 solid plastic container with high sides that I customized into my new doggy litter box by using a hack saw to cut out an opening on one side of the container large enough so a Chihuahua can enter and exit it easily. Then I added an inch layer of pine pellets to the floor as the litter material. Next, with the Chihuahua puppy inside the doggy crate I butted the doggy crate opening to the doggy litter box opening. As the idea was that the Chihuahua puppy would sleep and play in the doggy crate but when it needed to eliminate, it would eliminate in the doggy litter box. Guess what, it worked like a charm. So for the first three weeks, I kept this up only letting the Chihuahua puppy out to bond and play after I saw that it had very recently eliminated. Then after three weeks, I slid the doggy litter box out about a foot and a half away from the doggy crate. Then I monitored my new puppy closely throughout the day to see if she was using the doggy litter box like she was supposed to, and she did flawlessly. Then subsequently, I slid the doggy litter box on each successive day a little closer and closer to the final designated location for the doggy litter box I had previously picked out. When the litter box was in its final designated location, I then considered my new puppy fully potty trained. In any event, this was not only by far the easiest time I ever had potty training a Chihuahua puppy, but it was the first time I ever trained a Chihuahua puppy without having any puppy mistakes. Moreover, a litter box, as far as I'm concerned, is not only the easiest way to train your pet because your pet essentially trains itself, but overall it's the best solution as well. As I don't have to worry about maintaining a set schedule to let my puppy out. I don't have to worry about whether it is snowing or raining outside or if it is freezing or too hot. I also don't have to worry about leaving the puppy alone for an extended time period. I also don't have to worry about fleas, ticks, mosquitos, or my dog getting a disease another dog left behind. I also don't have to worry about other dogs attacking tiny Chihuahua since she always remains inside the home. As far as the litter material goes, I highly recommend pine pellets because it virtually eliminates all odors and it is quite easy to work with. It's also far cheaper than other kinds of litter materials and does a far better job at eliminating odors. As you can buy a 40 pound bag of the stuff at Tractor Supply Company for $6.79 plus tax and you will use only about two to maybe three bags a year. Meanwhile, when a dog or cat urinates on the pellets, the pellets disintegrate into odorless saw dust. To make cleaning my doggy litter box easy, I purchased a sifting cat litter box as a cleaning aid only. So what I do to clean the litter box since I always flush down the toilet any solids as soon as I see them, is empty the doggy litter box in the sifter of the cat litter box. Then I sift the sawdust in the sifter into the cat litter box below. When all that remains in the sifter is pine pellets, I then empty the sifter back into my doggy litter box and then add about a scoop to a scoop and a half of pine pellets to make up for what was used. Then I empty the sawdust in the cat litter box from below the sifter into the trash since it is odorless. Lastly, I wipe everything down and put everything up until the next time. As I clean my doggy litter box out about once a week. Puppy pads are not only expensive, but they are also very disgusting.

My frenchy is a blue pied and his name is ghost. He’s 10 weeks old this week. Since day one of getting him I never had to put down pee pads. He has literally been the easiest puppy I’ve ever trained. He’s fully potty trained he will not pee or poop in the house or his kennel. He goes up to the front door when he needs to go to the restroom. He likes to sleep in his kennel which I leave open. I also taught him how to sit lol he learned that one really fast. He’s damn near perfect.

I took over the care of my niece’s Shi Zhu, that was pad trained at her home. However, once he got to my home (I know there’s an adjustment period) he refused to use them. I’ve been taking him outside, but when we’re inside, he still pees, not on the pad. He’s 1.5 years old. I have confined him to an area, pads on the floor, food water and toys. Any ideas on why he isn’t using the pads, besides being in a new environment? What else can I do?

What if my frenchie destroys all the pad 😂
@onthegofrenchies
@onthegofrenchies 3 жыл бұрын
So the trick with that is to train you puppy that the pads are not toys. Whenever your pup grabs a pad to play with/ destroy trade it with his/her favorite toy. Implement the word release or drop it as soon as they let go of the pad. This will reward your pup with a favorite toy and teach them a command that you can take with them forever. If the toy does not work try with food or treats. You need to break your pups attention on the pad and bring it back to you and the favorite toy which is allowed to be played with. This will take some time and practice.

My pup keeps peeing on the edge’s causing the pee to leak off and under the pad. Any way to train him to pee more in the center?? Maybe a certain scent I can spray the center of the pad with?? I tried using even bigger and Biggest pads. Doesn’t matter. Still on the edges. He is getting better at holding it though. Sometimes I come home to a dry pad and he’s anxious to go out and relieve himself. I feel a little bad he’s holding it so long. That’s why I got the pads.

@onthegofrenchies
@onthegofrenchies 3 жыл бұрын
If your dog can’t have any treats at all maybe try rewarding with their favorite toy and praise them for doing a good job. Make sure to discuss with your vet about available options for treats that will agree with your pups diet. There are soft chew treats that might work and you might be able to reward with a piece of their actual food just rolled into a tiny treat size.

Just keep trying and reward your pup when he does the right thing. I know it’s tough and most pups play with the pads and some even tear them up thinking they are toys. Just discourage that and provide an actual toy instead for them to play with.

If you want to only teach outside potty training that is ok but yes I recommend that you take your puppy out on a regular basis. The every hour is great to start and that can be relaxed as the puppy gets older and more accustomed to going outside. For the pads this would be your safety net. Puppy’s usually will associate their eating and sleeping areas as areas that they will not do their business in. As long as you are in the room with the pup and not leaving them alone then coving the floor with pads in the bedroom is unnecessary. I would recommend just the play area or space you confine the pup when you are not home. This will help prevent unwanted accidents in that area. Hope this helps 🐶

Great video, I have two puppies started training at the same time. One has picked up potty, sit, and knows when I say stop. The other has picked up nothing goes toilet everywhere, eats all the pads, doesn't know how to sit. Why and what can I do? Especially with the potty side of things?
@onthegofrenchies
@onthegofrenchies 2 жыл бұрын
Keep the pup on the routine of regular potty breaks. Also walk both together if the one knows outside training the other might pick up on it just being around when the one pup does it’s business outside. Lastly discourage the playing with the puppy pads. Distract them with toys and play with them energetically to burn off any energy they might have and they should forget about the pad. Reward the one that knows sit and walk the one that doesn’t know sit thru the basics trenching sit is the most important thing they can learn so work on that daily. Little by little and reward for the small gains.

I just got a 2 months old pom mix poodle, give her folded rug for her bed, I put the rug and puppy pad inside fence, my puppy likes to sleep above peed pad.. I live in tropical country, is it because the weather is too hot, so she choose to sleep on puppy pad over the rug? What can i do to stop her doing that? I dont want her to assume that the pad is her bed..
@onthegofrenchies
@onthegofrenchies 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah because you are in a tropical environment your pup is probably laying on puppy pads because they are cooler then the rug. Maybe try a cooling pad bed I know that my dogs love these because we are in Florida and our summers get pretty humid. Here is one from amazon amzn.to/30VQ68B but there are so many different sizes kinds so browse for one that you think would work with your pup.

If you can keep you puppy in an area that is not carpet like a tile area and restrict him to that area that will help with the clean up and second if you are training to use only that pad and not outside cover the entire area with pad so he can’t miss. When he does go reward him. And slowly remove the pads until down to one or two pad continue to reward him. If training for outside reward for outside potty and do the same pad training but until all pads are gone

Maybe focus on outside potty training taking your pup out consistently how every many months old your pup is take them out that often in hours. So if 2 months old every 2 hours. Also try to discourage the playing with pads by whenever the pup starts to go after one replace with favorite toy. Try these little tricks and see if there is any improvement.

So anytime you see your puppy try to or about to rip up the puppy pads you need to distract them with there favorite toys. Play with them until they get tired. They have energy that they need to release and they are associating the pads as a new toy. This can take time to break but eventually they will leave the pads alone. It’s also a great time to teach leave it during these play sessions have a pad near by and when they go for the pad say leave it and get there attention on you by using a favorite toy or treats.

If your dog plays with the pads and makes a mess of them as soon as he begins to behave that way intervene with his favorite toy replace the pad he is playing with with the toy, distracting him with the toy so he forgets about the pads. play with him for a while encouraging the play with toy and if he reverts to the pads just says no and regain his attention on the toy.

Take them out first thing in the morning, after breakfast, after dinner, and a few times throughout the day and before bedtime. If they do not go, bring them back inside and immediately put them in their crate for 10 minutes before trying again. Do not let them loose indoors if they have not eliminated outside. They must poo and pee before bedtime. I know this can feel frustrating but older dogs can still learn and be trained. Be patient with them but also stand ground they must earn trust from good behavior.

Well the main thing is to always monitor them while not in their play area that is covered with pads. Interrupt them if they decide to start to go not on a pad because you need to be actively monitoring them. Then take them directly back to their padded area. if they go in their area reward them. Remember to never punish them because that would be counter intuitive for their training. For an exact time to leave them back in their area there is no exact time but is your best judgment.

Yes the play pen would be perfect for them and that is what we did with our pups we keep them in an small part of the room. For the outside question You can do both right away the faster your pup gets use to that it’s ok and good to do their business outside and the feel of grass the better. They will become accustomed to the feel of grass and puppy pads and know after weeks of training that those are the ok places to relieve themselves

HI, thank you for the video, I have got a 4 month old Pomeranian boy, I have tried the pad training but every time I put him on the pad he just does not stay, he immediately moves away and sometimes about 5 minutes later pees somewhere else in the room, my question is should I "force" him to stay by putting him back several times until he does his business? or how should I manage the fact that he does not stay in the pad? thank you
@onthegofrenchies
@onthegofrenchies 3 жыл бұрын
Good question I would recommend to pen him in an area that has pads this should be his safe area to pee. This area is sometimes easier if there is no carpet. This area he should spend the majority of his time. You can put his bed, water, food and even some toys in there with him. For outside this area accidents clean with an odor neutralizing spray and you can place a pad there incase he decides to return. Some dogs will find specific places to do their business and refuse to go else where. This will help if that’s the case.

You can make a puppy proof area with a hard plastic kiddie pool and with flexible fencing then layer with puppy pads or there are some roll out water resistant Mats you can find instead of a kiddie pool or lastly use a laundry room, corner of the kitchen, or even a bathroom/ enclosed shower. So this process takes time. Your pup is just a little baby still. Not even 3 months old so she is still learning. Are you also training to go outside or just pads only? So when she has accidents elsewhere don’t reward her like you have been doing. She will eventually associate treats with peeing if you give them every time she goes on pads and start expecting treats. when she doesn’t get treats when having accidents elsewhere she will realize ok if I go on this surface I get treats and this one I don’t. She will naturally start going on pads. Just keep up the process don’t give up. I know cleaning accidents isn’t ideal but with time she will get it.
