I would disagree.This engine will run over 2 1/2 hours on a gallon of gas at half load, once up to 22 mph it's probably less than half load to maintain speed . 22 mph x 2 1/2 hours = 55 mpg but that's just an educated guess.

Reminds me of the Depression when people took old Model A's and turned them into doodlebugs when tractors were prohibitively expensive. I love the idea of repowering an old rig with a Hobo Freight powerplant. I saw one guy put a Predator 212 and put it in a Baja bug, but then lopped off the recoil start and put on an old-timey rope start. Poor man's antitheft!

@lewis2553Ай бұрын
Dad grew up during the depression. He said that one of my uncles made a tractor by putting a car transmission behind another car transmission to reduce the speed and get more torque. As for the rope start, that's not antitheft. That's just BYOR (Bring Your Own Rope) theft. 😂😂

I finally found this video, like I said I did the same thing to my Volkswagen dune buggy but I used the Skidoo clutch with the belt that runs the chain drive down to the transmission and hooked it up the same way you did on the transmission using the centre of the clutch that I bolted together. Great job thank you for showing how it all works the only thing I would like to have seen is A little more of how the Chain adjuster with the sprocket that you built how it works but I imagine it just slides into place against the chain to keep tension on it.

I have a suggestion for connecting the clutch eye to the motor shaft. If you have two shafts that aren't perfectly aligned you can connect them together with a Lovejoy flex connector. I've see these used in factories a lot. Otherwise, it becomes critical to make sure the shafts ARE perfectly aligned. While working in a cannery in 2015, I followed up behind a group of guys who had set up some machines that each had a 1 inch steel shaft connecting a primary gearbox to a secondary gearbox. Since the 2 gearboxes didn't always align perfectly, the first one needed to be shimmed up. Those guys hadn't taken the time to do that, so one day, I arrived to find that the output of the secondary gearbox wasn't turning on one machine. Upon removal of the shaft guard, I found the shaft broken. After I replaced it, the primary gearbox and motor were floating with a gap between them and the rest of the machine. Those guys had just pulled them down with the mounting bolts and not bothered to shim them up with washers. You did well aligning yours, obviously with just shims on the height. But if you don't mind a little extra expense, a Lovejoy connector can make alignment a little easier both horizontally and vertically.
@ChrisfromKeyfarmАй бұрын
I've used Lovejoy jaw couplers on my golf cart build. Unfortunately they are not rated for very much power.

Hello Friend. Although I have been following you for many months, this is my first comment. I am writing to thank you for explaining this video. It is really very clear, nothing is missing or superfluous. And I really like the way you've attached the shaft to the gearbox using that part you made. I am preparing a similar job for a tractor, and another for a 4x4 truck. I live in Argentina, I write to you in Spanish, and Mr. Google takes care of the translation. There was a 1978 El Camino v8 that was converted to run on hydrogen (water through carb) back in 2006. Owner drove around for several thousand miles at low power, before locking in storage garage. Shop in Georgia used obsolete dual 1.5MH coils relay per cylinder,and diodes, and passed 6-7 amps current through spark plugs same time as spark, using Inverter with half wave diode. Champion plugs cross reference with same REACH can be taken apart at top to exchange 6kohm resistor for copper wire substitute- like a racing plug. Timing was retarded to minus 34 degrees. Will start and run Idle speed but for acceleration power, the carb was uncovered to increase size of main jet redrilled about 30% bigger for more water. The EGR assisted the efficiency, but later on they found out that just some of the exhaust water would also smooth out engine running if reused! The exhaust has compressed in Nitrogen from air that boosted efficiency. (Air is 78% Nitrogen) Web site shut down, but couple videos 1+2 are still there on him and son running lawnmower engine on water. S1R9A9M9 -Nathren) I studied the whole thing. He now only runs V8 on engine stand for 24hr hooked to electrical power generater, with water line .

I think the "hood" off a riding mower would look way better. Want it liquid cooled? Take the cover off the cylinder, wrap 1/4" nickel-copper tubing around it, in between the air fins. Run those to a transmission cooler, mounted to the front, behind the grill. An inline 12v fuel pump is enough, run off the magneto (if the engine has one). A V-twin motorcycle engine would work here, too. Get the shaft drive transmission, cooler package. Do you run a 12v vacuum pump for the brakes? This is a great idea, what you have here. My added suggestions are merely ramblings. Take care.
