I tried this on my Wrangler, but apparently there are 3 separate evap systems that need to be opened and closed with a scantool or you'll never find the leak.

That is a common part of troubleshooting. You can also introduce the smoke to different parts of the system to see. You could have a bad valve or solenoid also creating the problem. That's when the tool is needed.
