How to Read OBD1 Codes Honda Civic & Del Sol

Here's the procedure to read check engine light codes on the 93 through 95 Honda Del Sol. This procedure also applies to the Civic and many other OBD1 vehicles.
To reset codes: On the under hood fuse panel, remove the 15A ECU fuse and leave out for 3 minutes, replace the fuse and the codes will be reset.

My 92 Civic Si has never had a check engine light on but wondered what to do since it doesn't have OBD plug since it is a pretty 96 car.

My Honda never threw a code until it was stolen and abused. I suspect over-revving caused my distributor issue.

I have a 94 del sol and did the steps but the srs light would flicker, would it still be the same?

There is a separate module that controls SRS (air bag) operation. There is a similar procedure to read SRS codes but it uses a separate yellow colored connector located by the fuse panel under the steering column. To prevent accidental air bag deployment and injury you should research and follow proper SRS testing procedures before attempting to work on your SRS.

I got a 93 and the check engine light comes on after driving for a long time or if I’m going at high speeds. But after turning my car off the light goes away. Will it still read the code if the light went off?

Yes, the computer will store the code(s) so you can read them later.

Hi. Right after connecting the wires the indicator of the check engine lights up and it shines constantly. Does not blink. What does it mean?

same dude, what was the reason in your case?

@@wayydev that means there is no error. My del sol does not start because the fuel pump relay was damaged. If you want to see where it is, I made a short video about it

@@Marczes thanks, but my engine starts and works uneven, rough, shattering. Also, on idle rpms are like 1100-1200, up and down, and also check engine light still present when engine is running. I bet I had bad paper clip, today I bought a new one and also bought a wire to try get error code again. Also I have some suspicion that it might be end for one of four spark plugs.

@@wayydev You can also scratch the ends of the paperclip with sandpaper. If the poor contact is the reason, it will help

Disconnect the battery for three minutes. That will clear stored codes.

If your SRS (air bag) light is on and you follow the method in this video the SRS light will blink out your SRS code(s). A table of SRS codes can be found by Googling "SRS Codes" and your year, make and model. Good luck

@@poleewag This method checks both the ECU and the SRS module. If you have a check engine light and no code blinks out when shorting the diagnostic lead you might want to trouble shoot the ECU itself. I hope this is helpful.
