This is exceptional, its like an old-school technical film. Very serious, very focused, no pointless chit chat thats included in so many videos on KZbin. Very impressed here. All the best Sir.

That was excellent. The attention to detail and solid camera work is much appreciated, especially the closeups of the thrust washer, retainer, snap ring area. Nothing more aggravating than watching a DIY video and the guy lays the camera down just where he gets to the part of the assembly that you were needing to see a closeup of.. Thanks!

This is a very detailed video! But do you have any questions? What are the channels near each bushing with felt inside? If this is for lubrication of bushings, then what kind of oil should be poured into it? От
@rebuilderinabox7 ай бұрын
Our replacement bushings are oilite. (impregnated with oil, no need to lube)
@rem20707 ай бұрын
Why then are there channels near the bushings and materials inside them???
@rebuilderinabox7 ай бұрын
"Our" bushings don't need oil as in all aftermarket replacement bushings, even the manufacturer's aftermarket. Please, no need to focus on this. Although annoying from a design standpoint, it's very insignificant to life expectancy and performance.

Is it the 42MT a Shunt (parallel) type or a Series type motor?

Thanks Mike.... I asked you this question earlier regarding the 24 Volt 42 MT....when I had it disassembled I checked for Continuity between the staters (where brushes make contact) and armature. My volt meter set on olms showed continuity. ...can it be repaired or do I check it???
@nicholasclinger17376 жыл бұрын
Throw it away??
@rebuilderinabox6 жыл бұрын
Not sure what you mean by "stator". Stators are in alternators. You may be measuring something that is normal.

Still fussing over 42mt starter for a Hough H-80 wheel loader... Disassembled the inside of the case,windings are grease covered with crud and rust particals...the metal plates attached to windings and case are rusted... What do you recommend as solvants to clean up those areas???

Do you have any kits for the 50MT? Mine caught fire the other day but was able to get the battery disconnected. Haven’t taken it apart yet but I’m sure some sort of windings cooked.

Hello, I'm having problems with a 40MT on a Cat D333C engine. Are these positive ground?
@rebuilderinabox2 жыл бұрын
The starter is made for both. If the solenoid post cable is +, the vehicle is neg. ground.

I'm still learning about these starters and have a question. if there were 2 armatures for the 42 mt laying on a table one is 12v and the other 24v how can you tell which is which? Is there a certain way to tell?
@rebuilderinabox4 жыл бұрын
We always look for a number stamped on the side. Then run the number. That's the best way. Usually 24V hairpins (copper strip) will be a little thinner than the 12.
@bryansmith60264 жыл бұрын
Thanks. also do you sell the shaft seal for the 42 mt starters

Hi Mike watched your video..great job!! My starter is a 42MT 24 V positive ground 11 tooth counter clockwise Unit.. it's off a International harvester H80 1970's model.. Anyway I'm reading continuity between stater and armature..is it throw away, or can it be repaired?? Also I have a identical starter (Delco- R) 11 tooth neg ground 12 volts.... it is in working condition... Can it be converted to 24volts positive ground?????? Thanks Nick
@rebuilderinabox6 жыл бұрын
No you can't have a short from fields to case. You can convert with a 24V solenoid, and 24V brushes when in a pinch.
@nicholasclinger17376 жыл бұрын
Both of my 42MT’s are identical,solinoids, brushes, staters, armatures, however the Delco-Remey is stamped 12 volts...no difference in wire size of winding's wire to brushes and brushes themselves...all internal parts are the same both stamped 42MT there both identical to the one that you rebuilt in your video ...¿???? As I mentioned my loader is 24 volts positive ground!! What do you recommend or suggest I do??
@nicholasclinger17376 жыл бұрын
Is the 42MT in your video 24 v or 12 volt
@rebuilderinabox6 жыл бұрын
12. The 24v armature is different and the fields are different also, besides the brushes and solenoid. Although the fields and armature are almost visually un noticeable.

How come you did not remove the lubrication wicks and oil them as the bushes require lubrication....if you get a rebuild kit they come with the wicks and new plugs??
@rebuilderinabox7 жыл бұрын
Early design bushings were just bronze. New design bushings are oil impregnated. It would be a waste of time.
