It's been 6 years since you posted this video and this has just helped me greatly. Bought my house 19 months ago and because we never needed to use the keypad, we just ignored it, only using the remote opener in the cars. And nobody knows the code. Now my teenagers come home while I'm at work and for 2 months I had tried various youtube instructions, none worked, until now when I stumbled upon this. You're a lifesaver. I tried it about 5 time and it didn't work. Luckily I read the comments and saw a suggestion the reset code was PROG-6-UP/DOWN. Don't understand why the instructions make no mention of the reset code.

These instructions worked where all others failed - thanks! However, like others, it was the reset procedure that fixed it and your video initially didn't work. I only came back to try it again after reading your and others comments regarding the incorrect button sequence. Adding a caption directly to the video would be better, but you still helped me get it working - awesome

I pressed the 3 and it worked. Thanks for this video. It was so frustrating that the instructions sticker on the remote pad left out this step - Prog+6+up/down. It seems like every set of instructions out there leave something critical out. With this video, and others like it, I'd be sunk. Just a suggestion, next time you could probably do the video in 60 seconds or so. I may be alone but I like short, direct videos. But content is king and yours delivered where it counted. Thanks. A good video. It ultimately got me through it, but a few comments: 1) As Debbie notes, you said, "Push 3, 6, Up" but then did "Pgm, 6, up." It appears the latter is correct. 2) It might have been helpful if you had shown the whole key pad when working with it. I suspect the lights might prove to be a tip off. 3) Could have gone a bit faster.

Even with the instruction sheet, I was stumped when it came to having the opener accept the new code. Thank you, now everything is back in operation.

The KEY to my success was the "HOLD Prog, 6, Updown key" -- this was never mentioned in the instruction manual / keypad sticker or even most of the google search instruction AND videos in changing / setting the genie wireless pad code. They just usually say "prog 3,5,7" to program. I don't know, maybe this is a secret "CODE" they don't want you to know, like playing video games to enter secret codes for special missions. God damn mystery...but Thanks Scott. Helps a lot! now I can change code!

Thanks, Scott. I have a Genie Silent 1000 Belt Drive opener so the buttons on the motor head are a little different but your procedures worked after about five times of trying. I found I had to hold down the code and open/close buttons on the keypad a little longer than usual to get it working but, once I did, the issue was fixed. Still not sure why my opener suddenly stopped recognizing the keypad in the first place but that's a moot point now that it is functioning. Really appreciate your video.

Thank you Scorellis, It worked once I read all the comments about the old number 3 issue. I think you will not need to redo the video at all. There is a way to add a note or caption on the screen where you said to press the "3". I am not sure how to do this but I did do this a long time ago.

Press and hold Prog + 6 AND up/down all at the same time Release buttons Type 3, 5, 7 and then press Prog Enter in your new code Hit Prog - LED flashes a couple times then stops Go to door opener and press button for new code - LED on opener should blink Go back to keypad enter your new code then up/down button Go back to opener - LED should be solid red Go back to keypad and press up/down button Go back to opener - light on opener should now be off Go back to keypad and wait until the backlight goes off (could be 30 seconds) Test your new code by entering it and pressing up/down button

Rob, I am not certain what you mean. Once you have entered your wireless keypad access control remote entry code and have pressed the up-down arrow button, the door should open. For a short time thereafter, if I am recalling correctly, ANY button will close or open the garage door. Once a short amount of time passes, perhaps a minute or so, you must re-enter the wireless keypad access control remote entry code and again press the up-down arrow button in order to operate the door. the reset is actually "prog"+6+"up/down"... he misspoke. then when the solid light is on and you reenter your code simply enter your code then hit the "up/down" button 3 times. If the door activates you're all set. There is no need to check for the red light to turn off. When I did the check, my keypad timed out.

He said to reset the keypad it's hold buttons 3, 6, Up/Dn. For people watching this it's actually Program, 6, Up/Dn. If you watch what he's pressing you can see that's what it is. I took notes of what he said and it didn't work so I watched him do it closely. Overall this video was very useful minus the hiccup.

SWEET JESUS! I have watched 20 other videos on this...nothing worked (we just bought this house last year and I was pretty sure all instructions on this model died some time after the dinosaurs). That is, UNTIL I saw this video. Now, #1, you're a semi-hilarious goofball...but I'm fine with that - because I just successfully re-programmed our keypad while my hubby was at work. #2 (because you can't have a #1 without a #2) the PROG+6+Up/Down buttons pressed simultaneously to RESET the damn thing is the KEY! Good lookin' out, Mysteri Arthur. So, scorellis, you're my new "go-to" when I convince myself that anything he can do (or won't, or will do "someday") I can do better! Great video...highly recommended! PS - my model has the button on the back of the main opener instead of under the light cover. I also waited 30 seconds to do my "test run"...and finally, if you screw the pooch on any step, just go back to PROG, 6 and up/down button step and have yourself a nice do-over. (I may or may not have had to do this one or nine times).

Thank You, Thank You, Thank You! I have an older Genie garage system so I had a hard time finding the correct sequence to resetting the pin number. Just remember people that you have to wait 30 seconds before your code will work. Otherwise any button will open it. Thought it was an issue on my part so I did the steps over. Thanks for the 30 seconds info. After storing the new pin and pressing up down to switch light from flashing to solid and pressing up down again to turn red light off, I then entered the code, up down again to close the door and nothing happened. I tried to close it again but any number would close it and would open it. I was frustrated until your comment. Thanks.

dandogg, you are absolutely correct. my mouth was ahead of my brain. You push Prog, 6, and the up/down arrow. I don't know why I said "3". You don't push the "3" in that sequence.

That's a great thought. I can try testing that myself with my door by putting something in the sensor path and seeing if holding the button down acts as an override. it could be a faulty sensor, too.

@craig p: when I posted this video a couple of years ago, I actually never thought anyone would view it. I posted it primarily so that I would be able to go back and watch the video if ever I needed to set the code.
