Thank you so much. I just discovered Gopro because I'm a hillbilly. I was wondering if I could attach a power bank to the port. For me (for right now) the camera's microphones are good enough. So I'll try running the power bank off the 1st port. But thanks for the tip about the bacpac battery and the 2nd port you get in that way. Excellent video. God bless.

I've been shooting using external batteries connected to a GoPro Hero 4 for years and one thing to note is that it sometimes only works if the battery inside your GoPro is fully charged before you start recording. If I plug in an external USB pack and start recording when the GoPro battery is even at 95% then it'll run off the GoPro battery only and not the external pack. I've had several videos stop recording after 90 minutes or so because of this and it took me a while to find the answer so I'm putting this here just in case anyone else encounters this. It's a known quirk with some of the earlier GoPro's and something that I think has been improved on newer GoPro models. The Hero 4 is very old now so it's time for me to update soon!

I bought a little camera it was 20 pound its crap and I thought it only records for 1 hour 20 mins do j thought rite am just gonna stop it up cos I want something u can actual se ok and something that's gonna last and nearly bought a go pro 7 today and didn't cos the shop closed 1 min b4 and I have found out they only last 1 hour 10.minz..ime using my phone as a little CCTV where I live for great reasons and j just want something small so what am I best doing cos j no nothing about all this I've got 2 really good power banks 1 of me takes about 6 hours to charge but I test ran it and it charges my samsung s7 2 times it charges 2 of my cigs and the dodgy camera I bought for 20 pound so it charges 5 devices from 0% to 100% and it said that on the leaflet when j bought it so I tested it out twice and it duz charge 5 things so I have my phone on record and a power bank attached it charges for hours j have a 128gig member card but it records 33min 10sec parts so yesterday I was out walking for 7 hours when I got bk I stopped the vid and it said 7 hours 10 mins but then when j went tn my vids they was all 33minz 10secons j bought the mem card from like a Pakistani phone shop I shouldn't of trusted them they rob soooooo many ppl no recept no price tags they just charge what they want..scruffy counts no bloody need

I use a D/C coupler for my hero 3, no need for either battery on the gopro , so my limit is as long as my power supply as i use a 64gb card 6.5 hours with this , nice vid also, cheers..

I usually do not give a thumbs up on a video because most of them have to much face and no real content,but this one is a thumbs up for me,I make all kinds of fishing tackle and other things and need more battery life etc. and this will do it,Also I use a lot of silicon to make things and I can make plugs to go around those cords to seal out moisture to camera.

Very Interesting. I use some setup close to yours to get live music shows. But I faced overheating problems. So I try to get my best gopro on powerbank and microphone out of the sun's way, and if another turns off I replace it with other one that is waiting near by.

An important factor you forgot to mention is...Hero 4 and older can only be plugged into a 1.0 AMP port to charge or use for external power.

thanks for this, good idea, one way to seal the battery and mike holes is get a block of blu-tack and make it malleable and then mould it around the holes and cables, it will probably work better than using electrical tape.

The power bank will last a very long time. The bigger you get the longer it will last. I would expect close to 24hrs

Your videos are always so informative, I don't know how I missed this one one of my subs actually linked it to me due to my Gopro issues lately, My battery has only been lasting about 20 mins, I have 3 I keep on me but end up missing a lot and usually my best fish, this seems perfect because I can still have it mounted to me but my question is have you tested this in extreme cold weather It's been in the negatives here and that doesn't stop me from steelheading so that's why my batterys die so fast I keep my camera inside my coat with a hand warmer behind it, do You think the power bank will hold it's charge in really cold conditions?

I feel you on the cold batteries. I have discovered that if you keep the camera recording it will last a LOT longer than if you wait to click it on when action happens, a "full" battery will go dead in a minute flat if its been sitting off not recording, whereas a recording camera in subzero will give you about half the normal expectancy. Still, I garuntee you will find this external battery the fix. Especially if you can keep it inside your woolies where your body heats the pack. I'm looking to set this up cause its driving me insane ice fishing.

With the gopro model he is using, it has a looping feature. It will record 5 or 10 minutes videos. It just erases the oldest footage and keeps recording until you hit stop. Then it starts over. So after you catch a fish, just hit stop and it will record until you hit stop again, and you'll have thr last 10 minutes recorded. Does that make sense?

Wondering if your 7 HGP overheats or not. Can you share your experience with overheating issues with 7 HGP. David A. Lavigne depends on the mode you shoot in. If I shoot in less than 1080p on my hero3 white I can shoot all day, but on my 4black I shoot in 1080 at 60fps and I can get about 3 hours on a 64gb card. Then I have to switch cards over real quick.

I just found your KZbin Video! I hope you can maybe help me out. I have a GoPro4. So here is my question.. I did a test where I plugged a Black Web battery back into my Hero4 to just see how long it would record. What I ended up with was one huge file instead of the multiple files I would have expected. The file I ended up with as too large to open. Is there a setting in the Hero GoPro4 that I need to set up to get smaller files? I guess the good news was that it recorded for about 5 hours but I could not open the video file. Any suggestions? Thanks Dave

Maine Trout Whisperer I will take a look at it again. I ran into this issue last year. I drove my 1957 Triumph TR4A 2,800 miles through the northeast last summer just using the standard GoPro batteries and found that I missed a ton of video because the battery died before I realized it had run down. So I did a quick test where I plugged a fully charged black web battery pack (Walmart) into the back of my Hero 4. It ran for hours but it was one giant file. I need to try again.
