What I'd suggest regarding the out of sync audio, is downloading handbrake and it will put them both in a constant frame rate

Any one of them would work honestly. The casting feature in headsets has gotten way better and more reliable since I've made this video, so feel free to use whichever one you like best and you should not encounter any major issues.

Thank you mate! It should be stable as long as you have separate 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz networks, otherwise it might disconnect if the Quest switches dynamically between networks. And of course you should preferably have your PC connected to the router via wire. Hope that helps, cheers!

Capturing can still be done the same way, although I am working on an updated and more detailed version of this. Regarding editing software, if you can afford it, Premiere Pro is awesome, but you can also use Davinci Resolve which is completely free and gives you pretty much the same functionality, it's just a preference thing.

Yes you can now. You'll see a pop up every time you hit record on the Quest, asking if you'd like to include your microphone too or not.

You only need to use Sidequest if you want to. All the recordings will be in the Oculus/VideoShots folder and you can access and copy them by just plugging your Quest into your PC and allowing access when prompted in headset.

Sorry, just saw your comment now, KZbin is weird with comment notifications :))). Well, for PCVR it's easy, for both SteamVR and Oculus, just use OBS to record the preview window and that'll have both video and audio from the game. If you want to add a microphone, I highly recommend a ModMic Wireless. For Quest 2 native games, the method in this video still works like a charm.

Hi Shawn! Yes it's super easy to download games straight to the Quest. It's basically an Android phone inside, so you'll have an app store where you'll find all the games. Regarding the screen recording, after a relatively recent update it now supports Mic capture, although it's not 100% ideal since it records both game audio and your voice on the same audio line, meaning you won't be able to independently adjust volume after you record, but in general it does an okay job balancing the two out. Feel free to ask if you have any other questions!

Been trying to figure out how to add my friends audio when we play co op games? I usually record off the quest headset it’s self and include my audio but it doesn’t include any one else’s audio. Does recording off a pc fix this issue? I have a pc as well just haven’t figured out how to record off it yet with the quest.

If you're using in-game Voicechat it should record from native Quest too, but yes, on PC it definitely works since you can just record Discord for separate voice chat line.

This helped me record 1080p gameplay from my quest 2. Just curious if Facebook/ meta allows this. I won’t get banned from oculus from recording my screen right ? The other day I loaded into the oculus cast thing to my pc and I got some notification saying that, Stuff from this headset isn’t meant to leave this headset or something like that. Just curious if I’m breaking any rules by recording.

Not sure what notification you’re seeing but there is absolutely no issue in recording anything you want on the Quest 2. My entire channel features lots and lots of gameplay and screen recordings done within the headset, and so are many other channels. Hope that helps!

Thanks! Well, for 180 recording, the short answer is that it’s not possible natively on Quest 2. It can be done with PC VR titles, but it very much depends on the game, as it works okay in some, but looks terrible in others.

I bought AirServer and followed all the steps and recorded a Video. I wanted to use the default quest 2 headset, it recorded everything but my voice and I don't understand why. Could you tell me why?

Well, let's take a step back. First of all, the Quest 2 sadly won't cast your voice from the microphone to the PC, it just casts the video and audio from the game itself, regardless the casting software you use, whether it be AirServer or something else. The only way you can record using the actual microphone from the Quest 2 is with PCVR, where you can set the input capture on OBS to be the Quest's microphone. For native gameplay, you have to either record directly on the Quest, without AirServer, or option 2 and the better one in my opinion, using another microphone, recording your voice separately, and combining the two in editing after, which also gives you the flexibility of having different audio lines for the game audio and your voice, thus being able to adjust the volume independently. Casting to your PC just mirrors your Quest's screen, but all the processing is still done by the headset and not the PC for stand-alone games.

Yes you can! After one of the recent updates, Oculus finally allowed us to use the internal microphone during gameplay recording. The only downside is it records to the same audio line as the game, so you'll have your voice, the game audio and the game chat all on one line, so sadly you can't adjust the volume independently to balance them, at least not yet.

When you say "send it to your device" what device do you mean? The video is saved to the internal storage of your Quest, and from there you basically need to connect it to your PC and copy that footage.

Hey! 🙏🏻 Well if you’re recording directly on the Quest and don’t have a PC at all, then you can’t since the microphone on the headset can’t be recorded. The way I do it is with an external wireless microphone from Antlion, and I use that as a line in microphone in OBS. Otherwise you could also try recording with a lavaliere microphone plugged into your phone which you could keep in your pocket and then sync the voice-over with the gameplay in editing after. It generally helps having something to help you sync, like a clap, or for VR bumping the two controllers together works too. Does that help? Feel free to ask if you need more help.

I believe you can only do that on the PC version of Eleven Table Tennis, as the Quest one doesn't support it since you wouldn't have a "preview screen", since you only have what's in front of your eyes.

Casting from the Quest seems to block mic communication. is there is a workaround? Also, the casting example your showing is laggy af, how do you fix that?

The Quest will not record your voice through the microphone, it will only record the game audio and other people in voice chat. The workaround if you want your voice is to use an second microphone connected to your PC or phone and sync them up after. Not sure why it looks laggy in the video but the footage isn’t laggy at all, nearly every gameplay I have on the channel is recorded like this and looks fine.

Right now the only way to record Q2 and be able to communicate (when not playing PCVR) is to record to the headset, and record your own audio separately with a modmic or phone or something, and then combine the audio track with the video. The Q2 will not record your mic input in it's video

Hey Chris! AirServer supports 60 FPS, so unfortunately you won't be able to go beyond that. I recommend to do some testing before going live, but the mentioned setup should be OK!

Have no idea what I'm doing wrong. Tried Sidequest's streaming (and capturing the window via OBS).. but, lots of dropped frames... pain in the ass. Seems better than the headset recordings-- even with my mic muted, the audio for Walking Dead is out of sync endlessly... no clue what I'm doing wrong. @@DopamineOverload Not sure why Airserver isn't connecting, you're on the same network on both your computer and Quest right? Regarding the audio-sync issues, those are not your fault in any way, it's a long standing issue present ever since the Quest 1 that Oculus hasn't bothered to address yet, so streaming directly from the Quest is damn near impossible if you want it to both look and sound great. Your best bet for streaming is to get the Oculus Link Cable(or a third party one) and play/stream PCVR titles. Walking Dead for example is cross-buy, so if you've bought the Quest version, you already have the PC VR one for free as well.

Haven't tried it with party chat, but in game it definitely captures both game audio and voice chat. Air Server is simply a way to cast to your PC, so whatever the Quest sends will be replicated in AirServer.

Sure thing, I'm happy to try and help, but it is a bit hard through the comments here. When you add the source in OBS, instead of Screen Capture, just go with Window Capture and pick the application you want to record(the game). If you do it that way, it won't matter what's on top of what on your Desktop, it will only record that Window you've selected. Hope that helps!

@@VRManCave ty for responding. so hard to figure this out. i know i am so close. the big problem is getting the oculus game i am trying to record in obs.i can see my oculus screen on my desktop behind any windows that may be open including obs window. the problem is nbo matter what source i use, the oculus will not show up on obs.it would be so much easier to explain it to you talking rather than typing but.... i know its a setting im missing either on my desktop,in obs or possibly the virtual desktop app is making it glitch some kind of way. maybe ill try going through air link?

There's sadly no way to cast the microphone from the Quest 2, but you can simply use an external microphone like the Antlion ModMic Wireless and record that separately in your PC, then just combine the two in editing.

When you play PC VR games either via Oculus or SteamVR, the gameplay footage you see in the headset will also be displayed on your computer screen, so you can simply pick that window to record in OBS. Regarding audio, the built-in microphone on the Quest will not work, you’ll need an external wireless one, I use an Antlion Modmic Wireless. Any other gameplay audio will come through your desktop audio, so you can capture that for the gameplay itself, then on a separate track record your voice, and that way you’ll have independent volume control on each. If you're just trying to record PC VR games then you can simply use the OBS method, which does not require a wire at all.

When you cast to Airserver it should send both audio and video, same as with a chromecast. Just make sure you have the desktop audio line added to OBS or whatever software you're using to actually record.

Which Audio source do you choose at 6:15? It’s hard to see. If I have it casting to my desktop & capture that with OBS, I want to make sure the audio from my quest is audible. Do I need to have the audio turned up on my PC in order for it to capture the audio?

Hey there! The gameplay audio comes through on the casting, so at 6:15 just choose whatever default you have set in windows, whether it be your headphones or speakers, it doesn't really matter. As long as you can hear the audio from the game on your computer, then it will be there on the recording too. Hey Joseph! You'd just record the Quest gameplay with whichever method you like, and then also film yourself with either your phone or a camera if you have one. Then, depending on if you want to livestream the footage or just put out a video of it, you'd either use OBS to overlay yourself on top of the actual gameplay, or use Premiere Pro or your video editing software of choice to do the same thing for non-live videos. As far as I know you can’t, the only way to record higher framerate footage is to set it to 60fps or 72fps from Sidequest and record directly on the Quest in that square format. Happy to hear you liked the video mate, thank you! 😄

The recording on the Quest can be problematic for very long recordings. The way I do it now is to stop and start the recording every 20-30 minutes just to be safe. If you use the casting method and record with OBS, then there would be no issues, since even if the cast fails, you'd still have every second of the recording before the casting disconnected, so at least you're not losing everything.

Hey mate! Well, first of all how are you capturing your microphone to broadcast it to your chat? Are you using OBS? If you are, can you see the audio input active in OBS before you even start streaming?Usually you would the integrated microphone for in game chat and use a separate microphone for your stream, I personally use the Antlion Modmic Wireless.

@@mrstanley4179 I'd advise you to try just recording gameplay with OBS instead of Streaming to test this out. If in the recording you do have audio from both the game and your microphone, then it's most likely some sort of conflict related to the microphone being used for two purposes at the same time. I personally don't have a Rift, and on the Quest I've never actually tried using the built in microphone since using an external one just gives you way higher quality and control over your voice audio. In case you do figure out a solution, please leave a comment, because it may help other users with similar issues.

By default the Quest recording is done only on the right eye, so yes it will be further to one side slightly. You can gain a bit more field of view by using 1440x1080 resolution set through Sidequest.

Well, unfortunately the GForce Overlay has had some issues with VR games in the past, and you also are warned about this when using Virtual Desktop. You can also try recording with OBS, since that comes without the warnings ✌️
