I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder at 20 (I am 71 now) and later with autoimmune disorder of unknown etiology (which means they had no idea what was wrong). No one ever asked about food and they saw these 2 disorders as separate. I was on social security disability for 20 years. Then my husband got cancer and I put him on a special diet suggested by a friend. No gluten, dairy or processed foods. He did not get better because it was too late, but in one month my symptoms for both of my conditions were gone. I do not consider myself bipolar anymore. I lost 20 year of being able to work so now I am a widow and in poverty. But I am in school to become a functional nutrition counselor. I hope to help younger people not fall into the rabbit hole I ended up in.

I was diagnosed with ADD at age 7. My mom did nothing, just let me take Ritalin, which made problems worse... then I was prescribed other stuff. Then a psych tried to gaslight me into believing I was a lesbian, which was odd. In high school, they said I was autistic because I had social anxiety.... I moved far far far away from my parents house, changed my state, changed my diet, body build, and none of those are an issue... oh the icing on the cake, I am extroverted! They just want to pump you with meds, claim you have all these issues, that do not exist... just need a clean diet and life is great.

I'm a practicing family physician in a VERY busy clinic and urgent care ( I also work the ER ) and I have been trying to get patients to take a more active role in manageing their own health with healthy diet and exercise but 9 times out of 10 all people want is a pill to "fix " their problems. Functional medicine is where TRUE medicine is. I liken it to a house fire and the fire truck pulls up but they spray water on the smoke and not the fire....in the mean time the house ( ie: the body ) is burning down. Trying to get people to quit dairy and make meaningful diet changes is like pulling teeth.
@timsteinkamp22453 жыл бұрын
Quit dairy is a big product list. Drinking a glass of whole milk for a dinner can get a guy to finish work. Eating full fat ice cream even with the sugar is hard to never have and don't get me started on the cheeses and butter. I understand milk is for baby cows but what about cooking? I quit my milk drinking and have quit all dairy for a week to see if there is an issue with lactose but I'm not sure it is worth stopping all dairy. Of course raise the price, that usually helps reduce demand.
@elinmansson55353 жыл бұрын
And that is because that’s they way it works in western medicine. You go to the doc and expect to be prescribed a pill. You are told that your condition is incurable and diet has nothing to do with it So of course people are not gonna believe you or think it’s a big deal when you start discussing their diet. The whole paradigm needs to shift.

Need more doctors like you. Most doctors say to lose weight and either don’t tell you how when you ask or you tell them that you have been trying and you keep gaining weight and then they just say that your not working out enough and blow you off. Really sucks when they don’t run the appropriate tests and just diagnose you with FND and no one in your state will give you a second opinion because of that diagnosis.

You need to try and expand your gift to humans and see if you can smell the differences with them and there health problems ? With this gift you could open up a whole new world !! My panic attacks and night terrors returned, I had menopause symptoms but I’m not menopausal. My prolactin shot up and my periods stopped. I also developed tinnitus, sensory overload on all senses but sight and sound was the worst. Any movement where I changed posture or exerted myself caused severe dizziness and I began collapsing. I developed chronic migraines that feel like intense pressure with greying of my eyesight. True. Society does not have fail-safes for the hundreds of millions of people in this country and the endless possibilities of medical maladies that are multiplying every day. This is so interesting! I have a friend, who's mom, a 75 yo, was in a mental breakdown years ago. She had psychotic episodes, not being able to talk, catathonic. The family put her on a psychiatric program, a mental hospital, anxiety, depression, psychosis, everything was ''mad, mad''...so the situation turned that some doctor, after a conclusion that I don't have info about (maybe he was suspecting there was something wrong with diagnosis), ordered some analysis, and said ''get her out of all medication, just everything, and start to take this other one''.... They did it, she improved, so much that in few months she was able to be coherent again, sleeping well, eating, etc.... What it was? She has ENCEPHALITIS. When started treating that, ALL psychological symptoms went OFF. I don't know all the details, but my friend told me that story in brief as I was astonished as they were (the family) when their mom recovered from that HELL. So you're reaching something here.

Dr.Hyman, I am also an M.D. and I am disappointed that the neurotoxic ingredients in vaccines were omitted...Neurotoxic mercury molecules and neurotoxic aluminum molecules in the childhood and adult vaccines may be the largest recurring source of brain inflammation but was not discussed and the civil scientific research omitted....I had hoped that you and Dr. LePine would be truthful about this... I highly agree about the harm of mercury and aluminum in the entire body. On KZbin you can find all kinds of videos of how reactive/explosive aluminum and mercury together, just imagine inside the body. In came the amalgams after college. 30 years later I had to clean my body inside and out, head to toe. Thankfully I was full grown before the pollution entered, I wouldn't want to be a kid trying to grow a brain plus trying to think. It took a lot to learn on my own with such bad short term memory and a long effort to heal/clean myself (slow approach is safer) . I could fill a book with all kinds of anecdotal information.

Amazing. I’ve dealt with so many doctors in NYC in Long Island etc. and my random headaches and ailments are constantly dismissed for stress or “maybe you need physical therapy in your neck”. So tired of running into doctors that only want to get rid of you as quickly as possible instead of trying to find the route of the problem and only investigating the “basics”-utilizing the same medical strategies since 1980. Hopefully functional medicine becomes the future and this epidemic of lazy doctors ends soon.

This is phenomenal. One thing that really strikes is when he's speaking about doctors listening, to really find out what the problem is -- I truly wish more people in the health care profession would take this stance - we've had tons of experiences with many different doctors who take a few seconds to hear you, assume they know what's going on (or that things aren't as serious as you're trying to express), and dismiss your concerns over and over. I was in the hospital 15 times and almost ruptured an intestine with a very severe blockage before one person finally decided to run some tests and I ended up diagnosed with crohn's. (I was at the point where I was down to about 90lbs and literally couldn't eat anything - I had already suspected crohn's especially since colitis runs in the family but the doctors certainly didn't think so, or try very hard to figure out why I kept coming in with serious problems every few days as it got worse and worse.) With over a year of trying to dig deep into all the science available on every facet of what is known about all this, as someone who is very science-oriented and wants to get to the bottom of everything and look at all available data, a lot of what is being said here is really lining up with what I have found in my own journey since diagnosis, and I appreciate hearing it from people in professional positions who really know a lot about what they're doing. Thank you.

Yeah as someone with complicated symptoms, that doctors dont understand, I find they just want to tell you something is in your head or mistreat you. Because theyre egos are so big, its easier to blame the patient, than consider that theres something they dont know.

People also need to have enough Vit D.. Lack of that is a major cause of depression, cancer and other things. In fact if you have enough vit D your immune system is stronger for fighting covid and other viruses. Many people don't get enough. Depending on how much sun we are exposed to, we need 2,000-5,000 IU a day. Especially in winter. How many people would manage covid better if they had enough vit D and other essential nutrients (zinc, vit c, etc and ate less unhealthy foods as well)? Sugar lowers the immune system. If people think about the whole focus of the "system" it isn't about health, it is about bringing in money. We need to take control.of our own health and let dr's handle emergencies and the things we need help with after taking care of our bodies.

Here's a statistical report published by the Institute of Microstructure Technology, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology in Germany using public data from the Israeli Ministry of Health in Feb and March, 2021. They studied the high vaxx rate of Israel to see the effectiveness of the vaccinated vs. unvaccinated against Covid-19. This report is scientific findings that'll be used to petition the Israeli Supreme Court regarding mass covid vaxx mortality rates. It can be used for ANY courts in LEGAL LAWSUITS for undisclosed long-term adverse effects suffered by the general public, which resulted per the use of coercion tactics that pressured citizens into getting the covid vaxx such as vaccine passports, vaccine privileges, media censorship/propaganda done by local and federal governments and all agencies, including employers to coerce/force citizens to get the experimental MRNA vaccines. Article Summary: >Full vaccination protection is unrealistic for mutating genomes (viruses) such as coronavirus and HIV (covid-19 has snippets of HIV in its genome, which is why it is the common cold with modified HIV dna). Therefore, the lab leak is true in that Covid-19 is the common cold and has HIV sequences in it, which was likely created to develop a vaccine against HIV). The statistics from Israel mirror similar outcomes in the animal trials regarding the long-term life threatening adverse effects which are the cause of the high death rate among the vaccinated recipients within 2.7 years, if not sooner after full vaccination. >For ages 20-yrs old to 90-yrs old, 3 to 20% increase in infection & death rates among those who got the covid-19 vaxx. The efficacy of the covid vaccine does not include the long-term life threatening adverse effects that recipients live with and/or die of before publishing it's success rate. It could take up to 3-years to see the adverse effects on vaccinated recipients which either die or live with vaccine injuries that show up after getting the covid vaccines. >Up to 60% mortality rate for those ages 20-yrs to 24-yrs old who got the vaxx long term. >For ages below 20-yrs old, expect a death rate of 100% for those under 5-yrs old. It is not recommended to get the covid vaccinations for the younger populations outside of senior demographics. Censored treatment options are preferable to the undisclosed mortality/adverse reaction rates of the covid vaccine. >Immediate halt should be done on the mass covid vaccinations. Medical compensation for recipients w/long-term adverse reactions, including death onto recipients and damages done to their family's livelihood need to be addressed by all federal and local parties. >If these statistics are not included in public discourse regarding the covid vaxx program, then these statistics will be more apparent as the years go by with a sick population full of covid vaxx individuals. Great discussion! From a psychological standpoint depression is resentment (bitterness, hatred, rage, etc.) that has no outlet and turns back on the person holding it. Our attitude plays a direct role in the correct functioning of the immune system. That being said, the physical elements you discuss are also extremely important and cannot be ignored. Our immune system is everything. Without it we are dead. A danger comes in when we blame any one potentially causative element while ignoring others.

Not having enough money to pay bills, or buy food for your children, and not seeing any hope in sight can lead to depression. Depression wasn't talked about very much 19- 20 yrs ago (when I had it). I didn't know what it was. Physical injury of the financial provider, death of family members and then a close friend, (all with in a few years plays a role). What a great episode! Just when I thought I know enough about functional medicine, I walk away with so much more insight. Thank you Dr. Hyman.

If the brain has its own microbiome then its kind of icing to my theory: Our brain kind of sends us good signals, meaning it will want us to avoid eating gluten, milk or anything you are allergic to...but our mind will keep asking it and we usually don't think twice and just give in to it...I call it the mind and brain disconnect... I was attributing that mind signals to gut bacteria and yeast...if they are in the brain, then that makes complete sense...

toxoplasma, most common parasite in humans in most of our countries, biome of the wrong type tho...just saying, big fat heads in the video skipped this huge factor and droned on about loads of other somewhat useless info...

Same here, scrapped wheat gluten and dairy, and fast food years ago and my depression was managed together with exercise , morning sun exposure ,and probiotics. I still take sugars in my teas , sauces and fruits, as long as those are not excessive, the yeast issue is under control

I may be wrong - When I end up consuming too many carbs I can feel the inflammation as well as certain foods I take ASA for the inflammation. particularly my brain - ASA has been kind to me over the decades. I also take larger doses of Organic Turmeric which am gradually switching over to. I know there are temporary solutions, but the best I can do for now.

Wonderful podcast. I have Sibo, dysbiosis which I believe is causing my anxiety, depression, intrusive thoughts. I am getting treated for the gut and expect the brain inflammation to clear when my gut is healthy.

This is great talk. Very important for our times now. But it is still shocking me when talking about mental illness, depression or mood disorders, there is no single sentence about childhood trauma and trauma in general as a underlying cause of those problems. It is now well known that trauma causes inflammation, which then may contribute to lots of different diseases, especially mental problems. It would be very valuable to bring this fact into the audience.

@@chaz6399 Yes, I did. His book ‘When the body says no’ is brilliant and also his seminars. When I first listened to him I thought that this is it! All the links are connecting! And we need that voice so much. And I really think he has amazing gift of getting to the roots and being able to connect them to existing problems.

I went through this. I was in bed with a transformed migraine and I never took medicines , ever aspirin or Tylenol. That’s what they said it was from. I lost 15 lbs in a month and I was constipated and lost all my appetite. All I could do was lay there and cry , I would try to pray, It was sudden but hit me hard. I am now going though full on anxiety and I feel it’s attacking me again.
