wanted to give you a fast heads up that you DO NOT need the "hole making tool" to refill the 3170cdw--that's just adding time and money to the job. On the side opposite of the gear box, once you take off the two screws and cover, there's a little rubber cap that's pretty hard to get to with just a flat-head screwdriver; however, with a needle-nose plier it pops right out and gives you access to the well for ease of refill.

Did not do all that you did when I would refill my old brother printer cartridge hence the streaks on the paper, now with you're video and some others I have a much better idea on how to properly refill cartridge..thank you, and KZbin..the do it yourself video guide.

Thank you for the tutorial. I have some questions: my printer was purchased a long time ago but has never been used though. Does anyone know if there are empty -refillable cartridges for this printer? I would like to use it for sublimation purposes. Recommendations are appreciate it. OR should I emptied the original cartridges and fill them up with sublimation ink. Thanks.

Oh....don't forget to wipe up any spilled toner from the cartridge when removing old toner and refilling with new toner.

You buy other generic cartridges and unless they are original brother ones(very expensive) they will only last about 300 pages,fill them yourself and you are talking anything up to 2500 pages per cart depending on your printer.These baby's don't need chips.

How much of this is "refurbishing" the cart and how much is just refilling. You need to make a video that: 1) you TALK LOUD ENOUGH WE CAN HEAR YOU 2) is JUST the refill process. Most of us are not going to do all this when you can buy refurbished cart for $30 or less. It's a great video if you want to do all this but not many of us do I don't think.
