Tile Roofs vent from underneath of each piece and the sofits, In most case according to if the underlayment was properly installed. This is the first video I have seen where the ridge cap is being mortared correctly. GOOD JOB !!!

Thanks for sharing this. Now I can do mine. Called a guy to come do it for me but kept giving excuses and missing appointments then he said he came by and looked at it while I wasnt home and quoted me. I checked my security cameras and no one had been to my house. I told him to get poofed. I will do it myself. I will save a heap.

Great but why no colour ?. Australia we have separate flexible coloured pointing mix . Looks awesome !!!. Also we would reglaze the roof . Spray a durable coloured coating.

I did only my second ridge tiles re bedding job today, in the rain which was prob not a good idea, I was using a tower system as the tiles were on the slopping part of the roof, the tiles were all wet due to the rain and I did not feel safe climbing on the roof. You guys make it look so easy, are soft trainers better than heavy safety boots for grip on the roof?
@charls8818 жыл бұрын
Never do muck work in the wet, it makes a real mess and the muck goes to shit.

At 2:18 ish in the video where you see there is a little triangle of tile does this not need propping up somehow rather than just putting the ridge on. What would you suggest to do in the way of propping it?

Not the tidiest muck work, but he is quick. Depends if the customer wants a quick job or a nice clean looking job. ..I like the way people on here are saying that they're going to do their own roof. Leave it to the professionals for gods sake as its not that easy .

Do you reckon the mortar should be sponged? That would make it look much better and I wonder if it would be less crack-prone.
@eazthitman10 жыл бұрын
I think you did really well free hand and without guide. Did you use a straight edge to line them up?. Also shame you never showed how you build up the ends with pieces of broken tile cemented together. I have always known this as pie :). I am currently doing all of them on my roof - total 67 ridge tiles due the the frost killing the cement when they were put up. - yes i know i should have used frost proofing but I took a gamble and lost :(. If you take these up and the pie is in good condition you can stick them at the pie with a fast setting foam such as insta-stick and just cement the sides. When I did mine originally I made my own guide by bending 2 pieces of 22mm copper pipe and bracing the tops. This worked just fine. Also to the guy who said about wetting the tile first, I think you suffer from ocd. 3 and 1 mix is good for a roof and I like to add a small amount of sbr admixture for added stick and more movement resistance.

Don't you put in weep holes any more. I only ask this as I have a renovated roof that is leaking from the ridge capping. The weep holes haven't been put in.

oh my god you have 28 years exp, my friend your mix far too strong and when you lay a tile you must damp off the underside of the tile just a hand mister works fine , carl f has great buckets with the bottom cut out so u can leave the bucket safe when your not holding it, and the people who sell alot of screws sell metal arches which you can screw batten on so you keep a straight line and lay the bed of motar against it ,

to much cement in the mix, no hip iron bottom ridge always goes on first every time served slater does that, but not this so called roofer. he cant point the mortor was left every where he cant even walk on the roof and last of all try getting a tilers trowel instead of a plasters gauging trowel if i did work like that id be sacked on the spot.
