Judging by the start time (9:27) on your clock and the end time (9:31) when SteamOS was installed... took you about 4 mins. It either doesn't take long to install or you have a pretty fast usb drive. Great video, thanks 👏

I just wanted to say I am the type of person who never hits like or subscribe or even comment on a video. But this right here saved my steam deck. I received my unit 64 gb and I immediately opened it up and replaced it with a 2tb. I have watched tons of other KZbinrs on how to properly reinstall steam os. And this has been the only video that has actually worked. I stood up all last night trying and trying to get past the steam logo screen and this video saved it! I followed exactly everything you did and I believe that the Tip of using WinRar was the key. Thanks again man!

@@petrvochozka5281 I managed to fix mine by Re-imaging, there is a step by step process guide on Steam, also there is a bunch of videos here on yt, just remember to extract the boot file with WinRar that Steam provides.

Been trying this all day with a variety of drives but no go... finally find out I was overlooking something in rufus thanks to this vid. But now I got the drive working, switched deck on with power and volume, got the matrix stuff full screen scrolling by for 5 mins (with lots of lines headed 'FAIL' in red) no blue screen with options and now it's a black screen, backlit but no power light and a white cursor I can move. Honestly all this just to go from a 512Gb to 1Tb drive... I should've just got a full 1Tb Ally or Legion Go.

I have a question because i just got my oled , i tried to download windows 11on it & got stuck on a part where its asking for internet connection (no internet options appear) and i cant bypass this step nor hit next . ​@@Rosebaeby After 3 weeks I have managed to get it to work all you have to do is get a dock or any cable or dock that has an ethernet port if you plug the ethernet cable in to the dock or steam deck you can proceed from there while you wait for WiFi drivers to come out

“Eventually you will land on this screen” is assuming everything is working ok as the USB stick runs through and likely fails a bunch of times. I have been sitting on a black screen with a cursor for about an hour

What I did to fix this was I put my micro sd card in my usb hub connected to usb c and rewrote the sd card with the image using Rufus then I put it back into the micro as card slot on my steam deck and booted that way and worked

I've noticed when you reimage the steak deck you end up with a 'EFI Hard Drive' option in the boot option screen. Is there a way to remove this boot option? Would it cause issues removing it? Should I remove the option? It's just annoying to me that after reimaging my deck that there's more then one boot option.

I tried to reinstall my Steam Deck but the installation said it was FAILED. Then I removed my USB flash drive and turned off my Steam Deck. But after I turned my Steam Deck on again, the system launched normally. So, is my system actually corrupted or not? Because it didn't say any error and worked just fine.

I have kind of an emergency. At this very moment, I was doing all of the steps you have shown and everything went smoothly until about an hour in when I noticed it had been on the black screen with the mouse on screen for quite a while. But I remembered you said it could take a whil;e so I continued waiting. But now it has been 6 hours and it is still on this screen and I read that you can't let it die in the middle of this process or it could fuck up my steam deck, and the battery has got to be getting low about now. It was at 98% when I started. I can't plug in the power because of the USB. It is just stuck on this screen. Please help if you can

I’m trying to revert my brothers deck and it keeps saying that the ssd isn’t detected in the terminal after selecting reimage steam deck. The ssd works fine in windows so Ik it works. I’m wondering if windows reformatted it and it’s no longer in ext4? Anyone have any answers by any chance?

I had the exact same problem when I tried, my problem was the usb dive I was using, it was old and I think read/write speeds may have been to slow, I bought a new one with 130mb+ speed and it worked first time within about 30 seconds of selecting the usb drive.

@@gs8494 Yes! This. I used a microsd card in a usb3 shell to make the image disk and then put that in a usb3 to usbC adapter to plug into the deck. It installed in seconds. The next issue I hit was downloading the update. Something to do with having a dual band router, ended up using my phone’s 4g hotspot to update Steam. None of this was as easy as the dozens of videos on YT. But now I’ve done it I’m very happy.

@@jcmelon5771 I think the issue is the wireless drivers not the hardware, I had to make sure that the deck was the only thing using the bandwidth to complete the install when I upgraded the SSD. A friend has windeck OS on his deck and he's not had any issues with his wireless connectivity.

So I replaced the internal ssd and did these steps and I’m at the home stretch the only issue with mine is it doesn’t directly boot to the desktop it starts loading all these extra files and after it’s done it’s stays on a dark screen this may be just a small detail but I didn’t happen to notice that when you extracted the file you got a different named file than what I got so that might be the issue

usb-c flash drives are cheap. i recommend getting them, they usually come with c on one end and B on the other.

Hi, I wonder, is there any way to reimage SteamOS but without updating it after installation? In my situation it's really takes a lot of time and sometimes I just wanted to just test something. For example I tried SteamOS on SD Card. It installed fine but at 1st launch it needed internet connection and started downloading updates.. I just wanted to check is everything fine so downloading updates was not needed for me. Be glad if you will find some tips for it.

Also, the buttons were not working only touch screen, then it got stuck on update downloading, did a hard reset again and then my steam deck installed it and the buttons work now.

@@iamddttju6500 It actually fixed by giving it a lot of time to boot. Probably making the boot flash key with Balena Etcher instead of Rufus would make a faster booting flash key.

First step, don't. Leave windows on your device. Just use official windows and not tiny anything like that. I honestly can't understand what the appeal of steam OS is. Literally can't do anything on it and everything that you can do can be done on Windows and you can do way more on Windows. I'm really unimpressed with that operating system if I'm being honest. I would much rather have windows and just use playnite or something like that.
