I get the feeling not even the 3ds remasters did this. There was a lot of "90s shadowing" used for OoT/MM artwork, which only barely came out in the game itself (due to technical limitations obviously), but the 3DS versions look like they went for the Smash Bros. Melee type of lightning and general feel. The fan remakes tend try to reach hyperrealism, which always end up looking really really odd

My unrealistic expectations with a Remake or remaster of OOT. - Ice Temple added - Wind Temple added - Light Temple added - Sky temple added - Real explorable Hyrule Castle letting us see the King of Hyrule since we never saw him in OOT. - Early Pegasus's boots being obtainable after beating the running man. Running man quest will be available after Dodongos Cavern is cleared. This would make the big empty field easier to travel through. - Let players swing the sword underwater. -Free camera control option -VR Support - Let Adult Link use the boomerang - Give all bosses more varied attacks - HD Remake of the game that makes it look just like the official artwork. -Option to remove the owl. -Option to turn off Navi reminders -Give Link the ability to use his sword on horse back - let Link swing his sword while Moving. -Give Link the ability to summon his horse faster using the reed whistle from the unused OOT files. - Make Final Boss Gannon more harder by giving him more attacks and ability blocking attacks as well. Make him actually a challenge its unacceptable how much of an easy boss he was. - Give us more history on the Sheikah - A shop that lets players dye our tunics any colour we want in a shop. - Let players use the medallions as defensive and offensive weapons. - Add in Skulltulla houses from Majora Mask - Add more Trees to Hyrule Field - Add in more enemies on Hyrule Field - Let Link upgrade his Master Sword like A Link between Words. - Unicorn Fountains be added - Final Master Sword upgrade lets Link use sword beam. - For collecting 100% of everything shows a secret ending time skip into the future of Link training alone in a forest as he calls Epona setting up his next adventure into Majoras Mask.

I really like this idea. Taking advantage of the newer hardware to bring us something that’s true to the spirit of the original. In addition to the stuff you talked about I’d want to see some cut/Ura Zelda content. I’m sure a lot of old fans would be mad about the changes/retcons, but when you compare these wild ideas to the MASSIVE canon/lore changes in Skyward Sword and BOTW/TOTK it’s relatively minor in comparison. I’d want the art style to be more realistic with some surrealistic elements. If they added some of the newer stuff from Twilight Princess like horse combat that would dramatically increase the game’s quality. Too bad we’ll most likely NEVER have this. Great video. It would be interesting to know what you’d want added/changed in a Wind Waker remake (same goes for some other older Zeldas). I hope we’ll eventually get cut content videos for Star Fox Adventures and Assault. Those would be interesting to see. Especially since we now have the Dinosaur Planet N64 build, and Assault was originally supposed to have branching paths like 64 and is also combined with this cancelled Star Fox arcade game.

Great video as always sir! I feel like this should be a no brainer for Nintendo to approach this project. Ocarina of time can be made even more majestic with some slight modernization as long as they don’t stray too far away from the game’s original vision. Honestly like you had stated if they updated it with the original concepts from the beta I think that alone would satisfy people. I’d love to see the original envisioning of the lost woods with the sunlight shimmering through the tall trees or even a new song introduced where it links you to a central hub similar to what Ganon’s castle would’ve been in getting you to quicker travel to certain areas. I 100% agree with removal of the skulleta side quest as that was more tedious/repetitive and one of my only few complaints about the game.

@@TheObsessiveGamerHonestly I don't think that this was really a fair thing to say, what you brought up really is just mashing OOT and BOTW-lite together. By the very nature of including a stamina meter and some measure of climbing and Shrines all over and expanding the map so much you're changing far too much of the original game's identity. Ocarina of Time doesn't benefit from having these completely unlike systems just bap-bapped into one like a child smashing Legos into each other. You're going with a childhood imagination dream and giving very little overall thought to how these systems would interact or how they could potentially detract from what is already in the game. For example, let's say that we have a bunch of Shrines all over the place. Now there are quick waypoints everywhere, and the warp songs have to compete for utility. It undermines the very title object of the game. Similarly, if you expand the land too much and you don't add Shrine warp points, now you need to invent new songs to quick travel, or maybe include the Song of Soaring and owl statues all over, something like that. If you grant Link incremental increases on a Stamina and it's used for climbing and running and it's not as developed as BOTW is on that front not only are plenty of people going to complain that it feels like a downgrade from that game but it's going to run into the issue of potentially making Link too powerful compared to his equipment. If Link is capable of doing all of these varied things without his gear we run into the issue of his toolkit merely becoming keys. They're there just to fulfil a specific arbitrary action rather than being something that extends his abilities beyond what he is capable of. Think about how much you would have to change just in Dodongo's Cavern and the Forest Temple if you could climb up short walls even though you said not to change anything about them, and that's just one issue among many that come from this scattershot approach. How many of the Magic Bean segments would be completely pointless if you can climb? You want to include Stamina-fueled running mechanic in OOT, but have you given thought to how that would map onto the controls? Are you going to replace the roll; one of the main identities of the N64 era Zeldas, just to include a feature that people already complain about in BOTW? It feels less like there's forethought in the cohesiveness of these opposing game designs, just a childhood wishlist that would result in an undercooked experience. You're very correct about the issue with the whole "Nintendo, hire this man" phenomena, but outside of that you yourself only have a very vague idea of what you want from a remake, and it shows. The reason that many of these things were cut from the original game isn't just time constraints or the capabilities of the N64, a number of them just did not mesh with the game's design or balance, which is why most of them were used in later games that changed up their mechanics to compensate. If you want some genuine ways to design a remake you need to think about the things you want to include and then design methods of player interaction that facilitate that philosophy with purpose. Here's some ideas: • New lakeside settlement at Lake Hylia that leads up to the fencing that blocks it off from the rest of Hyrule. They have it blocked off because they've been left to fend for themselves from Gerudo raids, and they're not happy with the King right now because he's still entertaining peace talks with Ganondorf while not actually doing anything to mitigate their problems. Bam. There's some new story conflict, it's a good place for a new settlement, it allows you to have NPCs talk about the kooky scientist, you can do trade with the Zoras and Lon Lon Ranch here... Lots of potential. While we're at it, consider opening up the far wall to the ocean for a small space similar to Great Bay in Majora's Mask, maybe we can include some aquatic activities here like sea fishing or diving for lost treasure. • Instead of granting Link all of these physical buffs for things he can do on his own, I think it's better to look across the series for item ideas and combining concepts together. I think that finding ways to expand how the player's inventory interacts with the world is a great way to go about things. Personally I always loved how the Iron Boots were magnetic in TP, and I love how you can mix the utility of items together in some games (bomb arrows and the long Pegasus Jump in Link's Awakening, for example.) What about the potential to wear the Iron Boots, use the Hookshot to latch onto trees, and either pull the tree down to create a bridge or to bend the tree and unequip the boots to catapult yourself when the tree springs back up? If we take BOTW's bullet time aiming we can leap off the cliff at Gerudo Valley and use the Hookshot to latch into a cave in the wall. How about using the Megaton Hammer to launch Bombs like you're playing golf? Attaching a Bomb to the Boomerang and then manually dropping it mid-flight? There's a million new ideas or conceptsthat can be taken from across the series to expand how item interactions work, and some of those are going to lead to content that is worth exploring and implementing. Heck, if we're going to incorporate real forest areas with more trees then even something as simple as the Double Clawshot could be implemented. • Personally I disagree about leaving the dungeons completely untouched. The game has too many box pushing and eyeball shooting puzzles for its own good. The majority of rooms are perfectly fine as-is, but there's definitely some puzzle changes or tweaks that could be done for the better, especially if we're altering how items work or the game mechanics in general. I don't think there's need to change more than 15% of them, but there's definitely some repeat stuff that could at least use touching up or reimagining. • Instead of simply expanding the traversable land so much (some is acceptable though), how about we consider making child and adult areas more different from each other than they are currently? We have the ability to essentially double the scale of the game temporarily rather than horizontally, which allows for a serious reinterpretation of content. We can expand the purposes of time travel with ideas inspired by Oracle of Ages too. • Obvious things like being able to thaw Zora's Domain as an adult, more interaction between Gorons/Zoras/Hylians/Kokiri/Gerudo, expanding on the war that plagued Hyrule and Link's family (maybe finding a family tomb and getting something cool from it, or at least being able to find Link's mother's grave?), among other things. Maybe we can actually get into the opening section of Majora's Mask before Link falls into Termina? • Keep the combat focused on one on one duels because the game was the origin of targeting in the series, but include New mechanics for allowing the player to punish enemies for guarding for too long as well as clever use of items in combat. For example, being able to toss a Bomb over an enemy and then swapping to the Hookshot allowing you to grab onto the tossed Bomb in mid-air, causing it to swing into the back of the enemy and make it explode and open them up for further Sword attacks. Maybe a guard breaker sword attack that costs Magic meter so that there's a cost to it but you have a limited option of breaking the pace of combat? • How about instead of Shrines we expand the concept of secret grottos and incorporate ancient ruins across the land? They would be more tailor made for the areas that they're in, and instead of having 60 two room puzzle boxes everywhere we could have a handful of ten room mini dungeons that incorporate more advanced mechanics than the main game. We could even expand the royal tomb in a similar way. Anyway, there's a lot of great ways to build on what is here without utterly nuking OOT's identity and changing it so much that they might as well have made an entirely new entry in the series.

@@eduardotepoxteca9171 Yeah, it has a lot to do with the lighting, the specularity of the materials, etc. Skin and hair are treated with the same level of shine the metals are, and it ends up giving the game a freshly waxed look. Unreal Engine would be perfect, if creators weren't too invested in trying to make everything reflect like a mirror. I think Ocarina of Time can be given a good mix between gritty realism and that anime look, it doesn't necessarily need to be cell shaded. Just don't focus on making the characters faces and hair look too overly real, but cloth should look like cloth, grass should look like grass, different surfaces should reflect light differently, etc. I think the modern Final Fantasy's style could work with Zelda, but maybe blur the line a bit more between fantasy and reality. It should still more or less fit the art style of Ocarina of Time. That original game has such a charm and I don't think you want to veer too far away from it. I think one of the best attempts I've seen of an OOT remake visually is the aptly named "Ocarina of Time Visual Remake" - there's little to no actual gameplay in the project, and it's instead entirely focused on remaking the models in the game. I think it strikes the perfect balance between stylized and realistic, taking advantage of modern graphics while still respecting the original's artistic intent. By all means I love the idea of a more anime-styled, cel shaded OOT (I'm literally working on something like this rn lol) but it just wouldn't feel right for a proper remake, for all the opposite reasons of most unreal remakes.
@vianabdullah283710 ай бұрын
There's actually a lot of potential here considering the amount of cut content from the original game and how the story was recontextualised in future titles. - See places like Snowpeak and Ordon Village from Twilight Princess considering it takes place in the same world - After Link lifts the Master Sword, you don't immediately wake up but can instead play as Sheik during the 7 year timeskip. This section could be a couple dungeons long - Committing the the idea further, Sheik will act as a companion and 2nd playable character for the Adult section of the game. So Zelda is a part of the story instead of sitting on the sidelines - Smash Bros already made generations of people think she was this cool ninja fighter, time to deliver on that promise - Skull Kid having a bigger role so we see understand the friendship between him and Link in Majora's Mask - The ending sees a montage of the future of Hyrule, including the return of Ganon and the Great Flood, leading into The Wind Waker - An alternate ending where Link can choose to stay in the future and help rebuild Hyrule. It'd be a nice message about not being dictated by past attachments and to always move forward even after a great tragedy

eh I think we should add more screentime with some other characters or more dialogue, like saria, deku tree, daruna, rito, zelda, etc. so that we can be more emotionally invested in them. Because their relationships with Link weren't as convincing and well earned as it should've been which is understandable due to the n64's limited hardware and such in terms of conveying that. Also, maybe even with some cutscenes make Link emote a bit more because like for example with saria when he was leaving the forest for the first time, it seems like he doesn't even care about the moment at all, he just takes the ocarina and just leaves.

I think an Ocarina of Time Remake should start off with a badass Old Man Link in a far distant Hyrule. After, you beat three dungeons, you go to the Temple of Time, and return the Master Sword where you time travel back to the start of Ocarina of Time. It would be a great way to recapture the twist of the original. After you unlock the Master Sword again, you’d be able to travel between three timelines: Child, Adult, and Old Man. It would be a full remake but also a new game at the same time.

What OoT really needs to feel like it did when it released is content in Hyrule Field. Coming back to it now, it's just an empty wasteland but at the time it felt like an expansive real place. Bringing back some of MM's ideas with people having schedules would be a good idea, so for instance you'd get more NPCs going on treks around Hyrule who you could bump into and like in BotW they'd have contextual dialogue based on what is going on. Weather cycle would tie into that (overridden by key events)

I really like the concept your proposing. Some stuff would need changing, like the shrines for example, and some stuff would need scope gauging like the open world, but it would be interesting to try and potentially create some conceptual documents, maybe some concept art, maybe even a prototype build. I gotta say, you've really peaked my interest, maybe I could try and make a conceptual project out of it, if not an actual fan project. Would be unlikely for it to turn into an actual game, but it could be interesting.

One thing I'd like for a true Ocarina remake is collecting memories like in BOTW and TOTK that can be unlocked after getting medallions from each sage. It would show their POV during the 7-year timeskip for character development. Also, medallions should unlock powers for Link to use. Also, reduce linearity; play the temples in any order you want!
@hanburgundy4317 Жыл бұрын
I loved the linearity, to be honest; it made the games feel like a progression, like you were actually earning something and working through progressively harder areas that you couldn't have conquered any earlier, and made it feel like an epic story. Nowadays, the games (Botw, Totk) feel like a big sandbox where nothing really matters. I loved the old formula so much and it's sad to see them go in such a drastically different direction.
@avon_c619911 ай бұрын
The original idea for OoT during beta would've been to actually make medallions useable, since as far as I know there's still beta content left on the cartridge that heavily implies that, however that ideas was scrapped late in development.

The fellow that makes those Unreal Engine Ocarina of Time demos clearly enjoys what he does and puts a lot of work into them but it results in almost everything having a freakish uncanny valley quality when redesigned to be that hyper realistic and still maintain the same relative proportions. The face of his Child Link model is unsettling, it reminds me of that realistic painting of Homer Simpson with the giant veiny eyes.
@5h0ckblock11 ай бұрын
I actually think a realistic Zelda game could work if done properly. And considering there's a live action movie coming, the game could be released either before or after the movie, with each potential release date achieving different goals. If it comes before the movie, it would likely be with the intention of easing the player base into the very idea of a realistic Zelda, making the fanbase as a whole more accepting of the idea of a live action movie, especially if the realistic game is successful. On the other hand, releasing after the movie will very obviously be meant to capitalize on the movie's success. It would even be possible that the live action movie would be a test for how people would react to a realistic Zelda, before releasing a game in that vein.

So, basically do Ocarina of Time but with the BotW mechanics and engine. I think they should add content to connect Ocarina to Majora's since it's the sequel. Maybe a sidequest adding the heroes of Termina visiting Hyrule or something like that, plus include an extra Temple after beating Ganondorf. Maybe one inside the Temple of Time where you need to change from kid to teen Link as a main mechanic.

I think if any added temple would be added, it should absolutely be the wind temple or the ice temple tbh.

BOTW's Havok engine wouldn't be suitable since that worked for an open world game and I don't think it should stay open world. Rather just have a more muted celshaded artstyle while featuring shrines from it. I do like your ideas for additions. Connecting the two games sounds like a no-brainer

A subjectively "good" remake of 'Ocarina of Time' should in my opinion atleast entail: >>A modernized graphical update (and NO, "just make it like OoT3D with higher poly models" is NOT ENOUGH) >>Incorporating beta elements from the N64 days (like useable medallions and actually being able to thaw Zoras Domain) >>Getting rid of all loading screens and meshing the environments together seamlessly, perhaps while adding more environments ontop to expand the existing areas from the original game >>Varied boss behaviours (to spice things up for veterans) >>Add some customizeability (akin to what can be done in BotW/TotK) >>Add a Light Temple (for Raurus' sake, since every other sage got one) >>Expand Links' moveset (perhaps to something akin to BotW, but PLEASE no funky Zonai-esque devices that allow us to cheese everything)

This is quite the hot take and many smarter, more competent users have left their thoughts here, but- -Adding a larger map with towns would introduce a whole slew of changes to the way the game plays and feels. If you gave the mask salesman more masks to sell requiring further exploration it could work, but that's just bloating an already existing quest. And having shops spread out through the towns wouldn't make sense because it's solving a problem that a larger map creates; if the map was the same size than shop placement wouldn't need to change. How would npcs in the towns serve any unique purpose? What unique reward would make it worth exploring? Rupees are already easy enough to get in game, and other items can be gotten from cutting grass. If they gave you a new item then the entire game would have to change to properly incorporate that new item. -Shrines??? STAMINA??? Easy one to knock of is stamina and climbing, because that would fundamentally BREAK almost every single obstacle and puzzle in the game. And if your reconstructing the dungeons from the ground up in order to incorporate these new additions then your striving to far from the source material. Shrines giving heart or stamina vessels is a terrible idea. Having link become some total powerhouse mid game would break the flow and challenge. Though if there were 6 mini dungeons, and the reward was adding an ability to your medallions, that would be cool. Since it's building off of what's already in the game. If the map was just slightly larger and had more enemy placement to utilize the games combat, you could have some kind of item ability upgrade, not strength but tactics. -Adding new dungeons or towns would change the flow of the game, or even bits of the story. But if they don't, then they don't serve much of a purpose outside of gameplay which would just be filler. -It feels like a mashup of BotW and OoT with the way you describe it, and if you enjoy BotW's gameplay style that's fine, but your taste shouldn't be the basis for changing a game that plays completely differently. But yeah however Nintendo does it we def need blood effects brought back. cheers.

Taking inspiration from the beta features that were dropped, like the Sage Medallions giving you various powers, makes sense. Putting in the missing Temple of Light that should accompany Rauru’s Sage Medallion makes sense. Expanding the scale of Hyrule somewhat and making previously inaccessible areas explorable makes sense. Ocarina of Time should never be made to be reminiscent of Breath of the Wild. Ocarina of Time belonged to a different era, when Zelda games were still Zelda games. I know a lot of people loved Breath of the Wild, but I think it represents the point at which the game series died, at least the main series.

Maybe not Ocarina, but with rumors of the next console circulating around and the fact that we just got TOTK, I think the next zelda game that isn't main series will probably be A) A port of Twilight Princess HD to the new console B) A new 2D game like ALBW, Link's Awakening, or ALTTP or C) A remaster of one of the games that hasn't gotten one yet. Just a little something to hold us over till the next big main line game and so Zelda fans can have something to look forward to at the beginning of the new console. And now that BOTW/TOTK have brought in a lot more new fans, I'm betting on a remaster (or more preferably, a remake) of an old game to reach more people.

I'd honestly love a remaster with Twilight Princess HD graphics. Add in a few things to the "empty" areas, but don't change or remove a thing; I'd want the same experience just updated, otherwise it wouldn't feel like OoT. As fun and new as the FFVII remake was, it didn't feel like FFVII.

Definitely want a remake with actual gameplay changes, graphical remakes just feel so boring. I like many of your ideas. One thing I'd like to add is I'd like them to change up how you get the titular Ocarina of Time. Having Zelda just chuck it in the water and Ganondorf not noticing any of it (I know that he just lets us open it to waltz right in after us but it still feels dumb and unrealistic) just feels like a cheap cop out. They should have you go on a proper quest to get it after Zelda escapes from Ganondorf. Maybe Zelda or Impa leaves you a message telling you where to find it, maybe you go back to Zelda's courtyard and find a secret chamber to obtain it (perhaps serving as a 4th child dungeon or mini dungeon, which could also help to better bridge the gap between the child and adult dungeons), something like that would really give that part of the game the proper tension and drama it needs instead of feeling like it's just rushing you along to future Hyrule.

Honestly if they were to remake this I'd be totally fine with the old graphics, maybe just a few QOL enhancements. And a few more side quests, or even times events like in MM. I couldn't stand what they did to the graphics in OoT3D and since remakes usually get ruined by stuff lile that I'd hope they would just keep most of that the same as it is.
@tyg-zw7nn10 ай бұрын
I don't think they need to worry about the integrity of the original content. We've all played the game. What you are suggesting is the right way to go about it. It needs to be a reimagining. A longer game that suits modern audiences. Expand the stories, areas, more towns, more quests. Doesn't need to be a Trilogy like FFVII Remake. That's an extreme example.
@Matthordika Жыл бұрын
I think the more likely scenario is Nintendo comes up with so many new things, they just decide to make a new game. I reckon thats why their remakes often remain pretty faithful, they'd rather flesh out new ideas in new games to fully explore them. Especially as they wouldn't simply just make new OoT-style dungeons or whatever, but probably more fundamental changes. Think like how the new abilities in Tears of the Kingdom entirely change how to play the game. That's how we end up with something like A Link Between Worlds. I know most people think Nintendo just half-assess and under delivers on remakes, and there's truth there, but I think they would rather just focus on whole new experiences over re-treading what they've done. Ocarina of Time has been done, it is what it is, and it is great! Time to see what's next.

A remake like this would be awesome I think you didn't mention it but it would be amazing to have cutscenes with voice acting in importan moments for the story, that would really elevate the impact of the story in my opinion Adding more stuff to that version of Hyrule in general is a great idea since the limitations of the n64 are no longer a problem. More villages and mabe caves or small dungeons would be a great adition.
@hanburgundy4317 Жыл бұрын
I honestly hate the voice acting - I have to set Botw and Totk to French just to play them as I can imagine it's a made-up language and I can't tell if they're bad actors or not. I wish they'd go back to just letting us read the dialogue and imagine the voices for ourselves.

No, Ocarina of Time should *NOT* be cel-shaded. Just because later 3D games in the series are cel-shaded, does not mean the toon look defines the entire series. Just because Aonuma disliked realism in Legend of Zelda, doesn't mean he's the only developer as Miyamoto asked Aonuma to stick with realism. Ocarina and Twilight Princess are closer together as the more realistic-looking anime designs, thus Ocarina's remade graphics should lean closer to 2000 Spaceworld Tech Demo, 2011 Wii U Tech Demo, or Link in Soul Calibur. That is how that Link was designed to look in higher fidelity.
@TheObsessiveGamer Жыл бұрын
Tbh Link in Soul Calibur was more a Link is what a realistic Link could look like. However OOT and TP both were still using older hardware that wasn't hyper realistic and thus the models for well despite being anime inspired Imo the spaceworld 2000 and 2011 tech demos didn't look right. Link looked too plasticy in both. If they were to remake it in a non-toon style, Hyrule Warriors would probably be your best bet actually. The celshading however is only brought up cause the idea is to replicate official art here as closely as possible. Granted my take on it is to tone it back from BOTW and be more a balance as I mentioned. But that's my opinion. Everyone's opinion is valid here :)

Things I want from OOT Remake: Not have the early game be nothing but a bunch of cutscenes. It takes SO long for the game to get going. Which brings me to my next point... Hyrule Field is empty AF. Link to the Past and Zelda 1 had MASSIVE overworlds that you could explore before you took on the first dungeon. Even Zelda 2 and Awakening at optional stuff you could mess around with to get more powerful if you wanted to. This leaves you stuck with 3 heart containers and not much else until you get out of Kokiri forest and then it's a WHOLE lot of nothing for awhile. Speaking of empty, Future Hyrule is not Dark World. Dark World has all of Gannon's minions hunting you down and making life hell for people that aren't him. He had seven years and he just sits in his castle playing his organ. What exactly is his endgame plan again? He's won. He's got power and the kingdom, and he does... what exactly? The bosses on OoT were huge pussies. Aquamentus takes i think seven+ hits to kill and deals a whole heart container of damage, AND he can 3 way ranged lasers. And your shield is useless. I know if you get *EVERYTHING* from the overworld available to you (5-6 hearts, blue ring, white sword, magic shield, bow) then you can just spank his ass. But either way a victory is earned. Mazura is the first boss of Zelda 2... he's a Zelda II boss, enough said. Zelda 3 has six statues and even though it's a simple predictable pattern, it can take awhi.... dood there is things can do 2 heart of damage in that game... in the overworld, and you come out of the tutorial @ 4 hearts. Awakening has Moldorm that can kill in 3 hits and the only savign grace is that you can bail on him and you don't get healing medicine until after. Gohma can be killed in 15 seconds and has grass with hearts in his room. Also stop giving Navi and Kaepora Gaebora sh*t. I think they are awesome.
@EyeShotFirst Жыл бұрын
I'd like to see a beefed up version of what was done with the 3ds remake, but go even further. Higher polygon models for everything, perhaps some actual grass/weather effects, etc. I'd like it to have that dark look the original game had. The 3DS had this colorful sunny look to it at all times. I'd also like there to be something more to Hyrule field, it just feels so empty. I'd also like to see some of these places like Lake Hylia and the Gerudo Desert feel even more massive. Zelda's castle is a castle. Kakariko village actually has some activity. I don't know if I agree that the game needs to be cell shaded. Just don't give every thing a high specularity to the material mapping and people won't look like wax figures. Go high specularity on metal, and low on things like skin. Too many of these "Ocarina In Unreal Engine" showcases makes Navi too friggin bright too. I'd give her some light, but not so much that she's blinding you. The lens flares coming off of her are distracting. Just a nice subtle glow.

@TheObsessiveGamer10 ай бұрын
I like OOT 3D. I still say that is the definitive way to play it. However it is not a remake. Remakes are by definition made from the ground up. There are faithful remakes like RE1 Remake and looser ones like FF7 remake. Their entire code, graphics, and audio was redone. Remastering is as the word goes to remaster an existing product. Meaning they take the base product and clean it up. With OOT3D, they did exactly that. Took the base game and polished the graphics
@livipup10 ай бұрын
I don't think you fully considered how adding features like a stamina bar or additional challenges like shrines would influence the gameplay. Stamina would undoubtedly make things more tedious and it would probably make certain parts in the dungeons a little bit harder. Just in the first dungeon alone that should be clear with how much climbing you would have to do before you have any way to increase your max stamina. You also don't gain anything by making the world bigger and then adding sprinting to let you move faster. Even if you litter the larger map with shrines or other side quest content you would only make players feel tired while exploring. It doesn't matter much if the giant space is empty or filled if players feel like they need to comb over a giant area looking for hidden secrets. Ocarina of Time has a comfortable size and a remake should preserve that. Instead of focusing on what other Zelda games did well which were not in the original game it would be better to focus on what Ocarina of Time did poorly to see if it can be improved as well as what the game already does well which can be expanded upon. I would take changes like a better fishing minigame and better horse controls before changing anything about the game's environments or tacking on new features. Things like being able to switch your boots using the D-pad and adding an aim indicator when using the slingshot or bow would be nice quality of life improvements that would help a remake shine. It's important to consider both fans of the original and new players when remaking a game. Other than that stuff, I do agree with you on the visuals and music :)

The problem is that they just drop higher res models in an Unreal Engine scene and keep the realistic lighting with basic physical materials. It's just too dark. \Take a look at any Mario or Zelda game. they all have specially designed shaders with rim lighting, and fake lights that always light up the player the same angle relative to the camera. This is what a remake like that needs. I think a basic understanding of shaders and materials would go a long way.
