I did my intake like this, but I have 6X heads, make sure you do not cut to close to intake flange side because there is a hollow place cast in head where push rods go, I think its just a passage to be vent for PCV. Monte's application used aluminum heads that doesn't have a casting hole as the 6X have. I learned this the hard way.

@@FastMonty when I divorced the intake I cut my gaskets to the intake like you did, didn't realize anything was wrong till the test fit, dang that's no good, so I ordered Edlebrock gasket set hoping there is enough flange left on intake to seal since there should be little to no pressure at that sealing surface. Edlebrock gaskets overlap the valley pan & valve covers surfaces so they need to be trimmed for clearance. Gonna use rtv on head side of gasket at that point then install intake. Motor is a 70' 455 - 0.060 over, I put less than 1500 miles on it before it started to run ruff at idle but still ran good under acceleration with a Holly street avenger. Purchased a Sean Murphy Induction Stage ll Quadrajet to keep it GM muscle

I run Pontiac engines in a type of boat known as a "flat bottom V-drive". The engine faces backwards with the drive shaft running forwards to a gear box (the V-drive) which shafts rearward again through the hull to the prop which is directly under the engine. These boats are built for speed. In this application the water crossover is separated from the manifold and the manifold is then spun around so that the carb is tilted in the direction of travel which is opposite to what it would be in a car.

This seems it would make it a lot easier to get that to seal to timing cover Nicky and if it leaks don’t have to remove whole intake
@FastMonty2 жыл бұрын
@@rileyenia9388 Agreed. It was a lot easier to seal the crossover to the timing chain cover, then confirm it was flush with the heads. Thanks!

I think this is the dumbest mod (trend) on record. How often do you change intake manifolds? I have changed mine 3 times in 30 years. Each time I did, I pinched the upper radiator hose, unscrewed the water neck, elevated it and set it to the side, pulled the Tstat out and used a turkey baster to evacuate the crossover. In 5 minutes, my intake was off and not a dropped spilled and I didn't have to butcher my intake.

Have you had and problems with that water crossover leaking after you cut it. The bolt is only at the top and wo the rest of the manifold attached im thinking a leak would develop at the lower end where the bolt is? maybe a oring groove around the opening if it leaked.
@FastMonty Жыл бұрын
Nope. It's a thick enough flange to hold pressure evenly. Thanks.

Just curious. Looking into intakes. Looking at the "Porker" 2 and the Northwind. The Northwind looks very similar to the Torker II, but with nothing to cut away etc. Why did you decide on the torker? Was that just because of the EFI bungs? Thanks
@FastMonty Жыл бұрын
Yup, I wanted to eventually go to port injection, and that's the only manifold that has it. The Northwind is an awesome intake.

I noticed on my Edelbrock cross over holes are smaller than the iron cross over. Where the coolant flows out. Hopefully this makes sense. I ended up opening up the coolant holes.
@FastMonty2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, If I recall, those openings are also threaded? Where the stock heads are not. I think they're 3/4 NPT which is why I screwed in AN fittings.

Great into and video as always. Only thing I would add is that you can make your life a lot easier and use a course carbide cutter which will cut through Aluminum like butta'. Mine cut so well, I took out the webbing in between the front and rear runners as well. Finish with the flapper wheel. I think you have it covered with your TB but while the manifold is off, some may want to consider drilling and tapping into the front of the plenum so they can route their PCV valve from the stock location to the manifold without an ugly hose running around to the back of a Torker II. Here is a link to the type of cutter I used: www.amazon.com/SpeTool-Carbide-Aluminum-Cutting-Non-Ferrous/dp/B06X9TXBYW/ref=sr_1_2_sspa?crid=2M0386ZBTABEK&dchild=1&keywords=carbide+burr+aluminum&qid=1626186160&sprefix=carbide+burr+alum%2Caps%2C183&sr=8-2-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUExUktBQU5CSzFCQU8yJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwODQwNDEyM1U5OTk4RjNFUlhZTCZlbmNyeXB0ZWRBZElkPUExMDI3ODQwMlFTRTg1WDQxVkRGOCZ3aWRnZXROYW1lPXNwX2F0ZiZhY3Rpb249Y2xpY2tSZWRpcmVjdCZkb05vdExvZ0NsaWNrPXRydWU=
