I can't believe how well this worked! My ten-year-old lenses had become so scratched and blotchy, wearing during the day was annoying and at night, impossible. I kept the Armour Etch on for about 3 minutes. I feel like I have new lenses with just minor scratches that are not an impediment to my vision. Thank you so much!

Hi. I have an update on my thought about this process. I practiced on an older pair of glasses, and it got foggy and looked more scratched. I thought this was because the Armour Etch is gritty. Well, I finally got courage to use the Armour Etch (AE) on my good glasses; it took 3 applications of 15 minutes each. Knowing that the AE is gritty, I did not use my fingers to apply it. I used a Q-tip and gooped it onto the lenses. I did not spread it out a lot because I didn't want scratches. Also, I found that just running hot water over the lenses to remove the AE, limited scratching. But finally I discovered that by filling the sink with hot, soapy water and swooshing my glasses in it, the goop dissolved easily. It does leave a film, which at first I thought was permanent, but found after all of the grit was gone, using dish soap with my fingers under hot water removed the film. Drying the lenses with an eyeglass cloth removed it more. Thanks for sharing your video. All of the wrinkles that were on my lenses are not gone, but I have a "new" pair of glasses.

I used this on an older pair of glasses that were pretty scratched up about 8 moths ago. At that time I only used it on the outside of the lenses as I figured that was where most of the scratches were. I was very happy with the results. Tonight I have to use it in the inside of a lens because the lens has become textured to the point of not being able to really see thru it anymore.

Thank u! Imma have to try this because the purple layer on my glasses started peeling off in spots all over the front and back of my lenses and it made it so annoying! I tried alcohol and goo gone lol but nothing. So imma give this a try because the glasses I have are my favorite and I don’t wanna have to go get new ones because of that it’s so expensive . Next time I do get new glasses I’m saying no to the purple layer.

I was able to use rubbing alcohol, but the difference was that at that time the anti-reflection was actually cracked in several places, so the alcohol did make it easy to scrape it off with my fingernail. Could just be because it was already so loose. This time the anti-reflection is actually wrinkling. The alcohol just wrinkled it more, but did not make it crack where it could be removed. The wrinkles make it hard to see things clearly. Very distorted, so it will be nice if this works. Thank you for making the video.

First try I gooped it on both sides of lenses and let all sides sit for 5-7 minutes, depending on when I finished each side. Tried very hard not to scrub the AE stuff around on the surfaces. Rinsed with hot water and no finger contact. Then sprayed with dish soap and used fingers to try to remove the leftover film/coatings but unsuccessfully. Looks the same or a bit worse than it did when I started, but thinking I didn't leave the AE on for long enough. Will report back after I try another application leaving the AE goop on for 10+ minutes... Edit: this time I left the AE on the lenses for over 20 minutes, but again no change. So it appears that some light scrubbing is required during the application process in order to get the coatings off. Going to try 10-20mins again after some soft scrubbing using my fingers with latex gloves on... Edit2- this time I applied with some light fingertip scrubbing in a circular motion on all four sides of lenses. Let it sit for 15-20 minutes, rinsed off with some light massage lotion under hot water from the faucet. Followed by dish soap and more scrubbing on all sides. seeing improvement now but it may need one or two more applications with light scrubbing again. They are usable now, but the rainbow reflection of the coatings is minimal to gone and there is some leftover residue or something which may or may not be removable if they are micro scratches or damage to the poly carbonate lens. Edit3- did one more application with the same light scrubbing with fingertips on all sides of the lenses. Let's sit for 5-7 minutes and again rinsed with warm water and more light scrubbing. Followed by dish soap wash down to remove any residue. Results look slightly better but still seeing a transparent residue that I may have to deal with. This time I'm going to soak the glasses in hot dish soapy water for a couple hours, which I doubt will do anything.

Why only use on plastic lenses? The product is made for glass- the acid removes coatings on either- you just can't leave it on for so long that it etches past the coating. Big comment yet I would bet money you have never even tried it on glass...

Save yourselves some money and use my method. I put 100ml of biological laundry powder in a bowl with enough water to cover the lenses. Stirred it, placed lenses in & left for 15hrs. I removed them carefully and thoroughly rinsed them under running hot water before actually touching anything other than edges. I assumed the powder would be abrasive. Once the powder was completely rinsed off, I wiped them gently with a microfibre cloth and the coating was gone. Only exception was some slight residue on the edges, which came away with the slightest scrape of my thumb nail. We call the stuf wash powder or laundry powder here in the UK. A couple of laundry tabs or possibly laundry liquid might work. I would guess the key word is biological though. Just to note - my lenses had a coating on both sides - it completely removed both! Hope this helps. 👍

I just called the company and the lady said that this glass etchant will start etching glass the second it touches the glass surface and they of course do not support or comment on anything they made the product for. So it behooves the user not to leave the paste on the glass surface for any longer than is necessary (probably 3 minutes max, if that). I have no idea about polycarbonate eye glass lenses on how it will affect those. My use is just slightly different in that I use this for restoring old Camera Lens glass which has a crazed deteriorated coating (or fungus infestation) from exposure to high temperature or humidity, respectively. The anti-glare (or anti-flare) chemical coating for camera lenses are usually the same as those for eyeglasses, as it is vacuum deposited (for camera lenses made past early 1950's) and is near-enough impossible to get off the surface of either types of lenses using any other method/liquid used. I have tried vinegar (got far worse), acetone, alcohol, toothpaste (urban legend), fine car paint buffing compound, even lapidary paste and 10k or 15k grit buffing paper (micromesh). None worked much and the last two may be ok to buff the glass after the fact to restore the shine. Cerium oxide powder (used in a water slurry) is much better for polishing glass as it has the necessary hardness (MOHS number) to actually micro-polish glass.

I was real happy to come across your video. The spotty anti-glare on my progressive glasses has been a real nuisance. I couldn't wait for the product to arrive from Amazon. I used it a couple of hours ago and my lenses are now useless! They are all cloudy. Yes, the anti-glare came off nicely and yes, I did both sides of the lenses and yes, I washed the product off with soap and water and carefully dried them. Why are they ruined? Ps. They weren't cloudy before.

Dear Cindy sorry that your lens are ruined. I am not sure why. Did you wait 5 mins. before washing off? if you use the Armor itch it takes 5 mins. for it to work. if you went over 5 mins. it is also fine. unless the lens were exposed to solvents like acetone. solvents will blurr the lens. otherwise I am not sure why your lens got blurred.

Hi Kurt sorry I hardly check messages sorry for late response. I actually do not know if it will take the tint off. however if your tinted glasses is peeling in the areas that are coming off and not showing transparent than perhaps I would guess the glass it self is colored. which in most cases should be. not just a tinted color coating.

I've always been told that they can't apply both anti glare, and reg tint. If you have polorized glasses google mentions that the polorized aspect is sandwiched w/i the lens. Anti glare is surface.

One word of caution here. I used Armor Etch on my own glasses that had anti-glare coating and it worked great, so I moved on to my son's glasses and it ruined them. I guess some lenses are made out of some kind of cheap plastic that the Armor Etch destroys. If you're going to try this. Try taking a teeny tiny bit, like on the very end of a toothpick and put it on one very out of the way spot on your glasses, like at the top outer corners. Let it sit for a minute and then rinse it with water without wiping across the rest of the lens to see if it's going to ruin them or not. If they still look like regular lenses in this spot with no clouding, then it's okay to proceed. My current glasses are a mess with scratches but I need the anti-glare coating so I'm afraid to do this again on these newer lenses for fear if I solve one problem I may end up with another.
