same!!!! i had to quit wearing one pair of glasses that I'd paid over 300.00 for. it was easy peasy and I'm able to wear my favorite glasses again. What a great investment this little bottle of Armour Etch was. Of course after I bought it my granddaughter told me, "oh, I have a bottle of that in my craft tote!" But I'm planning on using it to learn how to etch letters on glass objects anyway.

This technique with Armour Etch just worked like a charm on my governor's poor boy plastic frames with progressive plastic lenses. They now look brand new and crystal clear. TECH TIP: Before applying armour etch cream, look very closely at the lenses to determine what side(s) of the lens has the scuffed-up anti-glare coating. After a few seconds of intense observing, I found that mine had anti-glare coating only on the inside of the lenses. That is where I applied the cream. Five minutes later and a quick warm water faucet rinse and they are perfect.

I made the mistake of getting the anti reflective coating on my glasses. First time I have done that. The guy at the eye wear store talked me into it. Biggest mistake I ever made. Even while cleaning the glasses while wet and using strictly microfiber cloths the stupid coating scratched. I will never order that again. I have two older pairs without the coating which are five years old and they look perfect. My new glasses aren't even 6 months old and are scratched because of the coating. Never again.

I used armour etch on a pair of glasses to remove the scratches on the anti glare coating. It worked perfect. I used it on a second pair of scratched glasses and it didn't work. After reading many methods to remove the anti glare coating I went to the garage and used an aluminum polish called mothers mag and aluminum polish. It worked perfectly. I used one of the micro fiber little square eyeglass cleaning cloths with the polish on it and rubbed firmly on both sides for a couple minutes. Then washed and wiped away the polish. Very happy now I can use my glasses again! Both pairs of glasses are plastic lens. I was pleasantly surprised the polish did not scratch the original lenses. Thanks Bobbie Jo for the video!

May I suggest a cheaper, possibly safer way to do this. I have plastic lenses, transition, about 4 or 5 years old, with anti glare coating on the inside (back) of the lenses, that began to craze (tiny cracking and peeling of the coating that makes the lens look cloudy or hazy). As someone suggested below, use baking soda. I used a new toothbrush (dont use any used toothbrush that has even a tiny bit of abrasive toothpaste). Create a watery paste with the baking soda, wet the lens, dip the brush in the paste and begin gently scrubbing the dirty surface. Just do one portion of a lens for a while, then rinse, see if it makes a difference. I had to repeat the process about 5 times. I am amazed with the difference between scrubbed and unscrubbed lens. You have to be careful not to get some debris from the frame/lens gap in the brush, that could cause scratches. My glasses are clear again!

I just finished removing the anti scratch, anti glare from my glasses. I used Easy Off Extra Strength oven cleaner. It took about an hour....30 minutes per lense. If it didn't work I was going to try this Armour Etch. I removed the lenses from my glasses and saturated them in oven cleaner and let them soak for 10 to 15 minutes. Rinsed them off while softly rubbing off the coating under warm water. Repeated the process a second time and it was all gone. I almost cried. I canceled my eye appointment.

I had this same problem, and I used baking soda. I made a thick paste with baking soda and water, and used a toothbrush to scrub the anti-reflective coating off of my glasses. It took a while, but it all came off. The coating was on the backside of the lenses. I rinsed and repeated the process about 5 times, but they came out great. The anti-reflective coating is a ripoff. It scuffs and scratches after about 6 months, regardless of how careful you are.

What year did you buy these lens? People are saying that glasses lenses made since like 2018, or even sooner, have a more advanced coating on them that doesn’t come off as well. I only heard that after I tried this method, and I had to scrub and scrub and it’s still not great. So anyway, there’s that. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Not sure if the UK version is watered down. Tried 5 minutes, 8 minutes, 10,15,and then 20 minutes. Eventually 2 x 20 minutes followed by using a large/cut to wedg e point plastic pencil erasure was enough to remove the scratchy smeared coating that was left after applying the etch cream. Ultimately it worked but I was worried as hell that I'd ruined my glasses after the initial coatings just left a scratchy, smeary result. Thanks

@@lorenzeyewear You opticians should be ashamed, scratch proof coatings 'do not' work! A micron thin coating cannot prevent tiny bits of grit, sand, dust or sharp objects scratching plastic lenses! Even worse, the stupid coating wears away very quickly, ruining the glasses so fast, people are forced to buy new ones sooner than needed. "Clean spectacles under running water" you say, what a foolish suggestion! If all you had to do with glasses was clean them under running water, you would not need an anti scratch coating! But in practical terms you cannot clean spectacles by simply running them under a water, because that will not remove greasey sweat that runs off your head while exercising, or oils and foods etc that splash up from food while you are cooking or washing dishes. Normal human beings are very often outside, miles away from running water and unable to carry specialist cleaning cloths and solutions, so when they get their spectacles dirty they have to clean them using whatever is around and the scratch proof coating will not prevent scratches. The bare plastic lenses are just as good! Face facts, the scratch proof coating is a total rip-off as is the price opticians charge for lenses which are manufactured in Asia and cost just a few dollars! Go to Thailand or China and buy your spectacles, they cost peanuts. Walmart etc can sell perfectly usable frames, including power lenses, for less than five bucks! Opticians have been ripping us off for years, so sad they now have to also do it by telling people they need anti scratch coatings that do not work!
