HOW TO: Remove burnt plastic from exhaust - Harley Davidson FXR...There comes a time when you think it would never happen. Having a handmade exhaust can be a complete transformation for a motorcycle and the center of attention. But that usually leads to an open steel pipe ready to catch any fabric and usually plastic leaving a nasty mark. Turning a really expensive exhaust into something looking cheap. Well, for me I waited long enough on my Harley Davidson FXR and may have found the best solution for removing burnt plastic off my exhaust in this how to!

Never used Easy Off to clean pipes! That’s a great idea. I’ve used pledge to make chrome shine after its clean but this is a first. Great idea and good video Jay!

Wow! That did a great job. I always burn my shoe into the front tube of my thunderheader and use a 0000 steel wool to get it off. Maybe I'll try this next time.

I do the same, for some reason always point my toe inward and it will tap or lay against the exhaust. I appreciate you watching Dave!!

Took me 5 mins to clean the melted cover material off my Scramble 900. Started the bike up, waited for it to heat up, then used a Terry cloth towel to wipe off the plastic. My pipes are not chromed, yet it came off easily.

First: Respect Second: in the 80's i used Steal Wool 000 on my XS650-exhaust. Stil abrasive Nowadays i prefer wd40 on cold exhaust. Or: Avoid my daughter as passenger with plastic soles Martens

You want to clean your pipes esp if you want to turn it back that pure chrome and get rid of the blueing grab a small container of Blue Job..I know weird name. It’s a powder that comes with a little pieces of cloth. You wet the cloth dab it in the powder and go to work. It’ll take the deepest blueing back to chrome. Honestly couldn’t believe it.

I had a far worse plastic burn from the lining of a jacket. giant melted spot of plastic. I tried oven cleaner and steel wool - it did very little. After 3 applications there was little help. So I tried the crazy idea I heard - a penny from 1982 or older. I scraped away the plastic in 10 minutes without a scratch on the pipes.

for those frame sliders you have on the bike, did they just bolt on? or did you have to open up some bigger holes? i have frame sliders myself just didnt think it would fit on the areas you have them on at

Maybe someone here can help me? My exhaust has the blueing going on but the rest of my exhaust is becoming brown amd its not rust, its like it is burnt in my chrome. Does someone here have any idea on how to clean this?
