How to: Remove EVERYTHING from the Engine Bay - 1980 Toyota Pickup Truck/Hilux

Today I'm gutting the engine bay of this rusty 1980 Toyota Pickup Truck. While removing some components, I discover a poor repair job from a previous accident on the front driver's side... and the project grows. Subscribe & stay tuned!

The steering shaft comes out through the firewall as a unit ( 4 bolts) it should come into the cab. I have never seen one yanked out like in the video? Great tip on the e-brake cable.

I think in mine I just took out the steering column complete with the cover and all, but I am not certain it was a while ago.

I have done it that way as well, but was feeling lazy about dropping the column and disconnecting everything on this day.

When unhooking the steering shaft from the box...did you take out the bolt out on the shaft at the top by firewall to get the shaft to slide(compress) away from the box? I have a BRAND new, not rebuilt box, (cost $650) for my 87 and its time to get it in, seeing Ive got 1/2 million miles...so far....

I didn't see that bolt on this 2wd 1980. I just removed the 2 bolts at the rag joint to disconnect the shaft from the box.

recently pickup up a 20R out of an 80 pickup.. its complete.. prolly needs good hot tank n honing.. but other that, no idea what im gonna do with it.. just want to build an engine n this was a really inexpensive way to get started

The cylinder heads from the 20 R engines are sought after. You can put a 20R head on an early 22R bottom end and have a bump in HP due to higher compression ratio.
