Ok Thank you Angela and this might not be a so smart question but can I do up sell if I charge by the hour too? Today went to by a notebook to take to a house just like you mentioned on a video and I was confident that I was going to charge by the hour for a deep clean of 2.5 bathroom and kitchen they were pretty bad with spider webs and at the end I jus said 35$ an hour

Based on this video, I purchased the Brite & Clean shower kit from Amazon. I followed the directions on the product packaging and much to my shock, it WORKED! Very little elbow grease was required. I had tried other products, as well as homemade concoctions, with little success. The product is a powder similar to the consistency of Barkeeper’s Friend. Brite & Clean did not scratch the glass at all.

Great info! Also, a tip I got from an excellent plumber I use (to help prevent hard water spots on metal) : after each cleaning of the fixture, rub with a thin film of baby oil. This helps keep the water & minerals from drying on the fixture. It works well on all metal bath & kitchen fixtures that are in contact w water.

Great video, as usual! I so appreciate the safety information you give for the products you demonstrate. I have a lot of hard water buildup on a number of kitchen items. One is a glass jug that we use to fill our Burkey water filter. Another is a stainless steel pan that we keep on top of our wood stove to add humidity to the room. Bright and Clean doesn’t sound like a good idea for food items, or our septic system which drains into a creek. I poured full strength white vinegar in the pan and let it sit for about 45 minutes. I was able to scrub off most of the very thick whitish crud in the pan. I did the same for the glass jug. I poured an inch of vinegar in the bottom of the jug, let it sit for awhile, then I turned the jug on its side to soak each of the sides. It worked pretty well!

My wife and I have been trying to find something to solve the "water stains" in the shower since we bought this house. At the last house, I used a small pressure washer with great success (chemical + pressure = no iron stains). But that approach doesn't work here on these calcium carbonate stains from the devil (yes he's responsible). All the different efforts and time and I noticed that a razor blade would not make even a little improvement and it appeared to me that the glass was etched and ruined. I'm considering ordering replacement glass of the hydroscopic type, but that is really hard to find and typically part of an upsell is some other sort. Angela, your video is informative and professional, and your clarity, accent and attitude are absolutely perfect for this role. I picture you offering this service to companies that make otherwise boring videos about whatnot. I really hate the term "upsell" because it sounds devious and excessive, maybe even dishonest. I can't tell you how to talk, but a better phrase might be, "to add needed value" with intent to make your customers really appreciate your work. In a home where this is needed, this would be the first line item on my quote, the hardest thing first. And if that is all I sold, I would have done a great service and won a customer's heart. Anyway, thanks so much for your carefulness in putting everything into this video. The build-up versus etchant controversy had brewed for a year between my wife and I, her insisting build-up and my insisting etchant. I'm sure we will laugh at the contents of your video when we watch it together after dinner before I order all the goodies you recommended.

I thought I was the only one who thought 'upsell' was a bit overused. You got some good points. I hope this stuff worked for you. I was watching because a friend of mine has this problem and I thought I'd watch and read through the comments to see if this actually works as well as it does in the video.

@@user-no2bp4mn5i we purchased all the materials in this video and failed to improve the glass. We even used a drill, 3M pads, sandpaper and all kinds of other things. The glass is etched so deepy! I would need to remove too much glass and it would be wavy and probably still not clear. I'm going to remove the glass in a few months and have a local glass shop cut some new glass. I've been searching for a hydroscopic coating, but haven't found a suitable one yet that can be purchased retail. We'll see!

I dont know what to do about my clients...and it's truly my fault for not knowing this before taking the job and not speaking up. They consider so many of these "upsell tasks" are all regular maintenance tasks and I find myself HUSTLING hard and FAST to get these things done. im talking clothes DRENCHED in sweat (squeezable!) And hand and TOES knuckles hurting so much by the time I'm done. Something always gives and its turning into a lose lose situation. What can I do? Especially if some clients are family that graciously gave me employment. Assuming I cant rectify the existing relationships, how to I correct the new ones (especially if the new ones were referrals from my current ones, thus they obviously discussed what tasks I do and how much I charge) Eeeeeeek. Thank you Angela
@bkirstie
@bkirstie 3 жыл бұрын
i completely understand you and your situation. so all your clients have hard water? family and friends are hard as well. maybe you can say beginning by this date __________, i will be charging (whatever you want to charge). then explain WHY you need to do that (takes away from other duties, etc. ) people don’t always understand how hard it is to clean homes. i am not a cleaner but i hire a company. the only thing they upsell are refrigerator deep clean and oven deep clean for $50 extra. hopefully you can email your customers (easier to break the news 😂 that way than in person).

you CAN rectify the existing situation with family members and their referrals as hard as it is. things change all the time. this is about YOUR NEEDS, not theirs remember. you’re the one sweating drenched shirt (i sweat so much 😩). your clients probably won’t be happy about upsells, but it doesn’t mean they won’t like you because of it. i used to worry about that all the time... what people thought of me and ALWAYS put my needs last. it was horrible. you’ll feel so much better. lemme know how it goes. i don’t always get these notifications, however.

I use a puff that was retired and a spray bottle with 3/4 vinegar and 1/4 dawn dish soap in my home. Spray the surface down, use the puff and the hard water deposits are gone. The vinegar eats away at the calcium carbonate and the soap is lubricating making its easier to scrub and it also gets rid of body oils and ect... And it's cheap!

I'm back after trying the sal suds and it's pretty versatile. I mainly bought it for 2 purposes: laundry and back up dish soap (for when we run out). It taken me some getting used to because the diluted version for the dish soap it's to watery although it works great. As for the laundry it's quite good, the prewashing spray works well enough to remove some stains I was quite surprised. As laundry detergent I can't complain it works as well as any other main brand. I'm very happy. I'll start using a scent booster because I love my strong chemicals scents 😄😄 and sal suds it's very mild with it's pine scent. I also tried using the multi-purpose spray and love it because it cuts the grease . I'll be trying it on the floors and bathroom next but I'm pretty sure it'll do it's work. I have to thank you for recommending this detergent. It's quite nice, it hits all the basis. Also I was expecting the bottle to be small but it's big for 15 dollars only and I'm sure I can find it cheaper than that. I'm quite pleased and will be buying it again. 😊

They retail for $25-$30 so if you only use it for hard water stains, one use will more than pay for itself. But yes, the possibilities are endless (car buffing, cleaning the faded headlamps on your car.) Different bonnets provide different cleaning options.

Hi Jannifer, You can use an electric sander (with a cloth instead of sand paper.) You can use an electric drill (but instead of a drill brush a buffing pad. There are many creative ways to do the job. The orbital buffer is around $40 amzn.to/3Nb0bFp and is a machine you will use again and again if you have hard water. Of all the alternatives, I like the Orbital buffer best because it is designed to sit on the glass surface and "buff" vs, drill or sand which are the movements of the other machines. #paidlink

@AskAngelaBrown
@AskAngelaBrown 4 жыл бұрын
I don't know. I'm not sure what buffers you are referring to. The big difference between an orbital buffer and an electric drill is in the handle and control you have over the unit. If you are using it to remove hard water stains on glass and shower doors, I recommend the orbital buffer because it has a wider head, sits closer to the surface and has handles for two hands which will help you control the unit so it doesn't go bangity bang and break the glass.

Hey Angela, could you use this with your drill brush instead of an orbital buffer? I thought it might be easier to use on the faucets, and hot/cold handles and such...?
@AskAngelaBrown
@AskAngelaBrown 4 ай бұрын
+@marian6542 if your drill brush has a buffing pad, the answer is yes. the key is to be super careful with a drill, brush, especially if using it on glass. With an orbital buffer, you’re going in a circular motion which is easier to control on glass. You have to be careful with a drill brush, because there’s a tendency for a drill to go in a drilling, or forward motion. I see a lot of damage where Cleaners and or homeowners have used a drill, brush on glass, and have gone right through the glass. Yes, it’s possible, you just have to be super careful.

Best product to whiten yellowish vinyl plastic tiles?
@AskAngelaBrown
@AskAngelaBrown Жыл бұрын
When it comes to whitening yellowish vinyl plastic tiles, there are several options you can try. One option is to use a diluted bleach solution, combining one part bleach with three parts water. Apply the solution to the tiles, let it sit for a few minutes, gently scrub with a soft brush or sponge, and rinse thoroughly. Another option is to use oxygenated cleaners, such as hydrogen peroxide-based cleaners, following the instructions on the product for proper dilution and application. Baking soda paste can also be effective: mix baking soda with water to create a paste, apply it to the yellowed areas, scrub gently, and rinse off. Additionally, you can explore commercial vinyl cleaners specifically formulated for whitening vinyl surfaces. Always test any cleaning method on a small area first and follow safety precautions. If unsure, consult the manufacturer or a professional cleaner for guidance.

Angela, thoughts on diatomaceous earth. I use this product to kill ants. It is made of finely crushed sea creature shells. Many insects have exo- skeletons - ie - their skeleton is on the outside of their body - their hard exterior shell. The diatomaceous earth shreds their skeleton and the insect dies as a result, they bleed to death without their exoskeleton. I like this product because it is not poisonous. That being said - I never touch this product with my bare hands, and do not put my face close to the product. I would not use this product indoors because I would worry about inhaling this product. I think the minuscule hard edges of these finely ground shells could be very damaging to the lungs. As an infectious disease nurse (TB mostly) I imagine it could contribute to a condition called Scillicosis - and scarred lung tissue. I would recommend protective eyewear and a mask using this product in such close quarters.

@kurtcurtis2730

Good Lord - just one more clarifying point - I would not use diatomaceous earth indoors for ant problems - the way it is used for ants is to create a pile of it and the ants will simply walk through it to get where they are going - I would not leave piles of diatomaceous earth in my house. I will try this product in the manner you so concisely described ( and you are an excellent explainer - you would have made a fine teacher as well) however I will mask up, use ventilation ( open windows) and ensure things are washed down the drain. Sorry I’m so long-winded regarding this. Silicosis is a permanent life altering disease and the lungs are largely not regenerative

😱my boyfriend would die if I did this. He installs shower doors for a living. He says prevention! Apply rain-x or similar product to prevent the build up. To remove the build up I use good o white vinegar. If that doesn’t work, then I take a bucket with warm water and add salt(to soften the water).. get a microfiber cloth and dunk it into the water. Leaving it saturated, I then shake on barkeepers friend. Rub it into the cloth turning it into a liquid. Gently rub the cloth on affected area. Wipe clean with new cloth and softened water. Boom.

Yes he leaves a product with every install that’s similar to rain-x. Most the shower glass he’s installing is well above $5,000. Glass does scratch! They say the squeegees commonly used in showers are terrible for the glass. I clean house for the owners of the glass company and they prefer I use the white vinegar and microfiber cloth (they have hard water). Not a single squeegee can be found in their house. I think angelas buffing method would probably be ok for an older house. I definitely would not dare do this in my clients house on his $10,000 shower.
@emilyc9380
@emilyc9380 5 жыл бұрын
Angela Brown if the build up is really bad I go for a 50/50 mix of vinegar and water. Could add a few drops of essential oil to help with the strong smell of the vinegar. Spray and walk away for a few minutes. For softening water for cleaning, probably a tablespoon of salt per gallon of water. (Maybe more or less depending on how bad the water is). When Pre- mixing my cleaning solutions I use filtered water (culligan bottled water). Also, barkeepers friend makes a liquid and a spray version. I found they don’t work as well as the shake powder. That’s why I use the powder but i basically dissolve It with the super wet cloth so it’s not as abrasive. Hard water is just the worst! Before we got our water softener, I would do the salt in water for washing my hair too😁

With hard water you will be repeating the process again and again. The orbital buffer is $35 amzn.to/38DAiMt USD and worth the money to prevent hours of cleaning it by hand. Even with the buffer it may take you a good 20-30 minutes from start to finish of the project depending on the scope of work.

Yes, it is safe for faucets and drains. The secret is to make a wet paste (water and a pinch of powder) rub it around the hardware using a small brush (I use the OXO deep cleaning brushes amzn.to/34DqE9X which are far more durable than a toothbrush) and the smaller of the pack has a triangular head of bristles that allow you to get in the cracks and crevices. Leave the paste on for about two minutes before wiping off.

Hi Angela, just curious what is the difference between the buffer and the drill peices that have the flat round discs to go with it? Thank you
@AskAngelaBrown
@AskAngelaBrown 2 жыл бұрын
Great question. The orbital machine is designed to go back and forth and in a circular motion on a flat surface. The drill brush is designed with a forward plunging motion as if to drill a hole through something. Using the drill bush on a shower glass door (if not highly controlled) can drive your unit right through the glass shower door. (Trust me, I've seen SO MANY people make this error and had to replace the client's shower doors. AND, the insurance company doesn't pay for this one because you were heavy-duty cleaning it with a drill - on glass.) For hard water, use the orbital butter they are super affordable amzn.to/3eXo1oq and the cost is a one time-investment that you'll use again and again.
