Spoke with some competent mechanics that used to wear the MOPAR shirts but got tired of the toxic work environment. They said to tap the top of the solenoid with a rubber mallet, it helps break the o-ring seal and keep the tops from cracking off 90% of the time. There is a $100 removal tool from MOPAR, but they never used them.

I broke 1 and then read your comment. Tapped the 3 others with a mallet and they came out without breaking.

This rubber mallet technique works almost every time. I always use a brass hammer and tap it lightly all over it and watch for my penetrant to seep in and can usually pull them out by hand without a screwdriver

Just a quick trick that I learned on getting these out, if you place a small scrap piece of wood over the solenoid and hit it a few times with a hammer it should break the seal and allow for you to turn and remove it without it breaking off in the block. I successfully used this technique to remove mine while replacing my lifters and cam due to a failed lifter in bank 5.

Pull the piston out of the center after it snaps the head off and use a very sturdy j-hook pick with a bent tip work it into the metal channel that piston sits in and then place a pry bar under the handle of the pick and pry upwards I've done probably 50 of these and this works every single time.

@@H1storybr3akdown it would be best if you replace all solenoids at the same time because when 1 fail it's domino effect and just a matter of time before another 1 goes. And replacing the intake manifold isn't necessary unless you have extremely high miles and it's gunked out. Then replacing it would be a good idea and would restore some power. Cylinder 1 is closest to the radiator driver side my man.

Not sure if MOPAR has them but there are after market plugs that basically just act like a cork to plug the port. But yeah, you should just be able to leave the solenoids there if you want to avoid the hassle. I would still recommend a tune to shut MDS off if you're going either route, these HEMIs are finicky at best when you start making changes like that.

@@57LHemi I changed the solenoid for cylinder and six and then got P1411 for MDS number one, replaced it and now truck has ran normal for three days. I think these MDS Solenoids are more of the cause of hemi tick then people realize, truck is quieter and smoother now and oil pressure stays around 385KPA on highway and on cold starts oil pressure goes to 400KPA and did not get that high before.

I'd start 1st with checking oil level. Visually check the wiring harness for broke or loose wires on passenger side. If not I'd suggest its the vvt sensor. Does it run OK any symptoms

is it worth it to replace the solenoids if the jumper harness is all that is bad? i mean if you’re in there shouldnt i just replace all solenoids? the car has 189,000 miles and i plan on keeping the car. the car is immaculate. gets 32 mpg highway, suspension is still tight and its been babied. @@57LHemi do you think that’s my issue with #5? I think 5 isn’t one of the MDS cylinders. I took off intake manifold last weekend. The galley foam was completely oil soaked. Some of the spark plugs were wet with oil. Not on #5. I ordered MDS replacements. Going to check O2 sensor as well. Car is just too clean, and drives so smooth before this. Hard to get rid of it if I can’t fix.
