What are your thoughts on - if I keep the oil filter easy change - but use a siphon to remove the old oil from oil check port each time I do oil change ? And then add equivalent 1.2 qrts with a new .8 qrt easy oil filter
@JohnsonsSmallEngines Жыл бұрын
My opinion, you will not get all of the oil out and you are still paying $50 plus for the easy change oil filter plus extra oil. I made another video using the John Deere parts and it should be easier to change over. Check this video out. kzbin.info/www/bejne/f6vKpItpfq2Ve8k.

A very well done and well presented instructional video! I just ordered the parts which basically came out to the cost of one of the 30 second oil change filters. (Oil not included). I have an E120 JD and I’ve always been a bit skeptical of their fast and easy oil change system. Once you see how much old oil that is left in the crankcase, this change-out is a no brainer! I'm going to change mine as well, the threaded "nipple" from John Deere parts actually has an "allen" head to tighten it with. I also cheat on the oil changes, spent the $30 for a oil extractor from Agri-Supply .. no oil messes, pulls the oil out of the dip stick hole.

Big brain at work here. Well done. The "plastic piece" at 05:48 is a *keeper*. Good camera work, and efficient editing and labels. Love the intro iterating the parts and tools. On the replacement oil filter nipple, I could have sworn there is a version that has a 12mm hex internal form.

I just performed this conversion. I recommend using the Deere parts. The nipple replacement for the filter with the Deere part number has a 12mm hex form making that installation much easier than shown in the video. Also, the quick release drain extension with the Deere part number puts the hex head out near the end, allowing the use of a 24mm standard socket and easy installation. Also, running the engine first, makes any oil change much easier, as the oil is thin, and doesn't take near as long to drain (same goes for bottling honey, by the way).

I agree! Very poor design.

I thought the John deere quick change filter was expensive until I replaced my SUV wiper blades! The filter is a bargain

I had the conversion kit ordered before they delivered my tractor what was john deere thinking u dont replace all the oil and u pay 40 bucks I use a jd oil filter and Castrol edge full synthetic and cheaper then the quick oil change lol

Its sucks when a good company FORCES a money scheme on ya. And it only removes 1/3 of the dirty oil.

That stupid JD oil change situation is what made me completely overlook JD mowers. Absolutely idiotic.

The computer repair fiasco, now a $40 filter? Definitely staying away from Deere.

Easy crap filter comes with 8oz of oil, cost $55 wonder how many are ending up in landfills.

My wife and I recently bought a John Deere X354 that doesn't have that stupid quick oil filter. I almost didn't buy a John Deere of any kind after seeing that stupid easy oil change filter on a S120. We almost lost interest in John Deere after that. I hope we didn't make a mistake with the X354. I can only hope that the JD marketing idiots did not affect the X series. It's hard to fix stupid.

The John Deere x300 series are a nice step above the 100 series tractor. Your machine is a good one! Thank you for watching:)

Any X series are super solid, and with good maintenance should be able to get to 1000 hours with minimal issues

That easy change system is a rip off, its 50 bucks. When two quarts of oil and a filter is like 20 bucks and changes the whole amount of oil. It's almost like they want it to fail. They also put 10w30 in those transaxles which gives it a life of about 200-300 hours. If you change the oil to mobil 1 15w50 from day 1 it will last double that possibly more. Nothing more important than oil in these things.

There’s a better kit to do this with, so you don’t need those special tools

Ouch!! , check out my newest video in the link in description. It uses all of John Deere parts and is easier to install.

It can't be good for the engine to have that old oil in it for so long. John Deere is just banking on people's laziness and ignorance to have something like this on their equipment.

I think JD saw that most people ignore the recommended oil change intervals, so they came up with the "quick and easy" filter change so even lazy people would at least change a portion of the oil and the oversized filter, would help clean the oil. After seeing how much oil is left, I'm going to go back to the traditional oil change method with synthetic oil. I wonder if we can get an oversized oil filter for it, like the easy change filter. (that size). The easy change JD filter is super fast and easy to change, but I'm not going to risk a large investment with old oil. My engine only has 40 hrs on it and the oil is still clean (after 2 quick change filters), so I hope I caught it in time, to save the engine from unnecessary wear.

I think this is one of JD's dumbest ideas. Super expensive. Not changing the oil. A huge waste of unnecessary parts that are not recyclable. Why? just why?
