Fix any loud two stroke motorcycle exhaust by replacing the old fiberglass packing . As two stroke motorbikes age, the silencer packing gets saturated with oily carbon build up and it looses its ability to deaden sound effectivley . This step by step video shows how to disassemble, clean ,re-wrap and reassemble most any two stroke motorcycle exhaust silencer. A fairly easy job that requires very few tools and can be accomplished by most backyard mechanics .The silencer repaired in this video is from a 2005 Yamaha YZ 250. While silencers may differ slightly in size and materials , the concept remains the same. They are a perforated metal tube wrapped in fiberglass fitted inside of a larger metal tube ,thats it . Some are bolted together some are rivited together and they are usually designed to come apart at one end only .
The fiberglass I used was the Bike Master Muffler Packing Kit #158010 from FortNine .
The sealant I used was Permatex Ultra Copper High Temp RTV Silicone .

One of my favorite channels for stuff to work on my YZ250. Honestly impressive how well the video flows even with filming at different locations

Just my $0.02. It’s ALWAYS worth trying to do it yourself. With most tasks, you’ll save money. And if you mess up, well, it costs about the same as if you hired someone to do it. So might as well try DIY

If one is looking to this job and needs to see and know how to do it I think this video clears that all up for them no problems at all. Cool sound effects you have plugged in as well. And man that's some fast typing going on there to find the kit on line lol. My son and I have not long done a job just like this on his Victory judge exhaust to shut it up a bit more so we could get a defect notice taken off the bike, mind you the notice was not for noise as it was for the bars been to high but just in case they put a db meter on it we did this job on it...... A quality video indeed and the YZ250's are a solid bike as well ....keep well man and catch you on the next one.

Thanks for catching all the little details . They take alot of extra time to insert and often go un noticed by most people. You mention you son having to comply with some fairly strict bike limitations. Handlebar height and noise level regulations are also laws here but dont seem to be routinely enforced . Now that you have mentioned it I'm going to really pay attention on Friday the 13th to see what extremes are out there in plain site ..This event is heavily policed as there is always a large presence of H.A.and some other fringe groups .Those guys don't typically follow the rules very closely. But I'm guessing the law looks the other way when they are so outnumbered ..Anyway I'll shoot a bunch and see what ends up in the next video .Thanks again R.K cheers 🍻
