We had the exact same feeling when ripping the cord out of the pull start just as we got it to fire up for the first time this season. Thanks for the clear and quick instructions - worked like a charm and back in business in no time!

Hey man - got our first snow of the season last night, went down to the garage, and pulled the cord straight out of the housing! I followed your instructions and want you to know I really appreciate you putting this video out there! My only comments for anyone else in this situation would be: 1) Winding the spring FIRST, holding it in place with a screwdriver, and then putting the cord through is much easier, and 2) I could not for the life of me get my cord through the second hole. I ended up drilling a small hole with a cordless drill on the top part of the plastic housing where the second hole is, so that I could use an eyeglasses screwdriver to push it through. (I hope that makes sense). Anyway, thanks for the video!

This was exactly what I needed. My cord pulled all the way out and the video was perfect for what I needed to fix it. Took me maybe 20 minutes from taking screws off to putting them back on and starting right up. Thanks again. I use a MTD 5/22

my home maintenance man (husband) is on a roadtrip, so I did this today by myself! Thanks for the tips, worked great (I did pre-rotate the wheel to put the tension in before threading and knotting.) The old MTD 5/22 is ready to go again. ✔ I did 3 rotations of tension, which pulls the handle back, but it doesn't snap back super hard. Maybe I should have done 4 rotations. We'll see if it snaps back okay during actual use when next snow falls in Minnesnota.

Just watched your video with one for an Ariens. Between the two was able to fix in under 10 minutes. 12 inches over night and this morning. Set back wheels on blocks for better access. Was able to use old cord as only 1 inch broken off. Refer back through in 2 seconds after lining up holes, melted end, put slight bend in cord and it fed it right through. Wound 4 tim s before, could use 5, but otherwise done and back in working condition waiting for next 6 inches.

Craftsman something. I had to pull the clutch out to get to the rest of the rope. It was easy to access, but there was a spring underneath that I had a very uneasy feeling about. I got that rope offa there and put the mess back together quick. Thanks for the insight.

Question! I have a Craftsman Snow Thrower Model 247.881720 and I ripped the pull cord. Is there a specific part I can buy to repair or just any similar cable will suffice?

Worked like a charm - only issue was a tedious one.., after cutting & melting frayed end, had to tie some thin wire by snaking it through to the handle.., wound it up about 4 times.., all good but a little too much play in the handle. In this case it’s my backup as this model has electric start feature... good tip on spraying the shoot with lubricant too.., Thx again

So the only nuance is that if you have to cut enough cord to "just miss the next click" (this will make sense when you go to recoil the fixed handle), you will end up with slack, and the handle will not return all the way. So you will have to go to the handle end, and shorten up the knot there to make the length line up with the recoil amount. Hope that makes sense, it's hard to describe in text.
@Woodified6 жыл бұрын
My cord was getting shorter as I reused the old one. But if you had a new cord I can see running into the problem you describe. Thanks for the tip.

1985 mtd 24inch 5hp and a troybuilt 2410. Something even better than that silicone spray is ceramic coatings for cars. Can use the cheap spray on kinds from walmart. Been doing this for a long time on my blowers it last longer and very slick snow doesnt stick or clog.
@Woodified3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the tip. I will check try that out! Last snow fall the bottom 4 inches of snow kept getting stuck around the auger even with a fresh coating of silicone spray. The snow has never got clogged that bad before.
