I have been studying your videos & am so happy that you have posted so much useful solid info & advice! I own a single-wide trailer (circa 70’s) that has a rotten bathroom floor. I will have to remove the ugly bathtub (no real loss) to get the job done right. On the other side of the tub wall (my bedroom) my husband punched a hole in the floor when he sat down in a chair so I suspect water damage seeped in that area as well. Problem is that the hole is right above the center vent 😱 I am resigned to replace the tub, toilet, sink & the entire tiny bathroom floor. So I figured while I’m doing all this-that I might as well go gun-ho & add an 6x10’ extension onto the exterior of the trailer which would enlarge both my bedroom & bath. Since I also wanted to add a deck with arbor on the same side I have decided to hire a decking company for the 12’ tall decking post installation & incorporate some of these posts as my outside framework on the addition. The deck flooring, extension & bathroom/bedroom work would be on me mostly as my husband is in his 80’s & the tools and talent are mine. I have some hard work ahead to make this happen- I am located on Long Island NY. I will be hiring a plumber & electrician during this process. Do you have any advise to offer? I figured a good start is to do the deck posts & outside shell (& roof) of the addition first as I will be working thru the fall & beginning of winter before completion. I just want to thank you again for posting your helpful videos-you have inspired me & I am determined. I have $20,000 in retirement savings for this that I believe will get me through this undertaking if I do the bulk of the addition & deck flooring myself. I just started planning this-do you have any advice?

Don't spend your retirement money on the repairs or additions. Instead , either get a loan from some agency, the county or a lender for the amount. If you can't get the loan, try a Home Depot project card. Kast I checked, their terms were pretty good. Then make payments on the project card from income or side hustles. Keep your retirement savings to live on in retirement.

I really appreciate the way you’re making the video, I purchased a 1990’s Clayton mobile on 2 acres. It’s been a nightmare. Mainly because it seems they workers building the place in the warehouse don’t care about anything. I uncovered writing on a 2x4 stating “fuck my life” written under the drywall in my small master closet. Don’t take offense, you’re the used car salesman that has a heart. You know the problems with trailer homes, and you’re telling us the secrets of the builders mindset. I WILL CONTINUE TO WATCH YOUR VIDEOS. Oh shit I never thought about the condensation problem. That for sure must have played a factor in mine from the previous owners. That blade was trash. I am suprised the windings in that saw didnt start smoking. Fastest was to wreck a saw is using a cheap dull blade on anything. I pulled all my subflooring up and installed plywood. Not OSB. That crap swells from moisture and can destroy any type of flooring placed over it. Make sure any vapor barrier underneath is repaired by adding in New pieces over the old stuff. Then add your new insulation. Vaccuum up all the sawdust made by the saw too..

We moved into my sister's mobile home after she passed away last December and because of some plumbing that had at some point been done that wasn't up to code had a flood in the first month. Within a month later there is a spot in the floor that is soft and feels like its just carpet. I'm so stressed out about this hole I've even had nightmares about the thing haha. This video helped me at least understand what's going on with it until I can find someone to come out here and replace that osb. For now we've just sort of marked off the area and we avoid stepping there. Makes me worry about the safety of the floor around the shower and toilet themselves now too though. I truly appreciate ya'll taking the time to record this and post it.

I have the same exact linoleum, both top and bottom layers. My bathroom flooring is so soft and kind of sinking. Our guess it was the water heater that sprung a leak. My other half is doing nothing about it. He will go through first. :) I have found that if I start a project he will want to take over. Right now I am taking the dryer apart to replace the rollers and figure out why it is not heating. He took off the top and decided he did not want to finish taking off the front and pull out the drum. I am certain he will take over once I tell him I have the computer board off and if I can figure out where the drill is I will pull it and that will spark the gotta take over mode. After it is fixed I will get to starting on the floor.

I have a bit of a question. Is it theoretically easier to fix a bedroom that has what seems like a damaged floor under the carpet and a visibly yanked-out ceiling fan? The reason I ask is that my grandmother owns a mobile home but one of the bedrooms has been deemed basically unsafe to live in and is used as a storage room instead. This is largely because the previous owner was evicted and she destroyed the bedroom in question on her way out. I would like to see it repaired someday, assuming my grandmother doesn't move out one day. But between the current economic climate we currently have and the fact that her trust with contractors is shattered (we lack a central AC unit because she hired someone else to replace a broken one, only for him to retire after removing the previous AC unit and leave no way to contact him, leaving no unit whatsoever... at least she had yet to pay him.)... I doubt she will be hiring someone to fix it up anytime soon. So I'd like to work out what it'll take to fix the bedroom.

To be honest I do it by the room. A living room can run 1400 labor and material bedrooms generally run 800 bathrooms because of the toilet and the sink generally runs 6 to 800. And that is removing the subfloor and replacing insulation framing when needed install new subfloor. And then you have to think about getting the floor covering. Check out a few of these videos I hope they help. If you are doing it for yourself you can save a lot of money. Watch my videos I hope they help you with the framing. Today I got a new dryer and realized the floor under the washer and dryer. For a quick fix until I move can I get some plywood cut to the size under my washer and dryer to reinforce that area? Remove trim around the door and spray foam anything between the door frame and the 2x4. Check your weather seal around your door too. Look for leaks if need be. Have someone shine a light with the door closed outside. If you can see any light between the door and outside, install a seal around the door and frame. I own a mobile home. If the door is damaged by someone kicking it or the wind grabbing it, it can twist the door and warp it. Check all your screws in the hinges. if any are loose and wont tighten. Replace with longer wood screws or use tooth picks and super glue and stuff them in the screw holes. Then you can put the original screws back in and they will be tight again.

Thank you for your comment or say that helps and as I was thinking about it if you use window wrap on the framing before you put the door in I think that might help to I appreciate your tips I see very very interesting some of the things you said I never thought of but I think doors and windows should have window wrap on them when installed which should help be a vapor barrier good question

How do you know where to start cutting as to not cut through the board?
@Drewsroofingandhomerepair
@Drewsroofingandhomerepair 3 жыл бұрын
In the middle of the floor set your Skil saw for 3/4 of an inch deep only cut out the square hit it with a hammer that will tell you how much deeper you need to go with your saw. Yeah so I can cut up to 3 inches thick you do not want to do that on your floor. Make sure you set it for 3/4 of an inch and you’ll be fine.

For a diy project how much would you estimate the cost for a single room, about 20'x15' just a bedroom on a double wide mobile home. Its carpeted by the way, and new carpet can be left out because I already have something to replace it with.
@Drewsroofingandhomerepair
@Drewsroofingandhomerepair 4 жыл бұрын
What do you want to do is go 20 x 15 equals and then figure for plywood every hundred square-foot is three pieces of plywood. So I’m guesstimating 10 pieces of plywood and you want to get it 23/32. Plywood cost about $28 per sheet. Then you gonna need some 2 x 4 framing. Or 20 x 15 you’re going to need 10 two by fours so you can do the blocking and the outside framing in order to except your new plywood just like we do on the video. If you have Any questions call me 910-294-1761 I’d be glad to talk to you on the phone and help out anyway I can thank you for watching. Next week on Monday morning I am starting a Nother floor replacement in a mobile home I will be doing videos of so hit the bell notification so you’re notified when I download another video. I would be downloading a premier a video of how to install at EP DM rubber roof over a mobile home Friday night at 9 o’clock. A premiere video means we can chat as you watch so I hope you watch him Friday night 9 PM that is tonight

My bad. I was so into the video and the comments that when my ol lady messaged me I just swiped it away and replied to her in the comments. Anyways I have my own floor repairs coming up. Plumbing leaks that had gone unchecked from previous owners and was also overlayed. So bad the top board is soft so I just know I'm gonna be replacing some 2x4s. Don't have the kind of money to have this job done but I got these two hands and the comprehension to gain some know how. I like how you respond to the comments, it makes for some good respect..you got mine. Giving a thumbs up.

I just bought a 72' single wide the floor feels solid, but the home feels like it is moving all the time when I walk in it or when you shower. Its like equaliberium is way off. Could it be just the straps?
