Dave, I have a manitowoc that was made in 1987 and still has R-12 in it. It just gave up on me at the end of last year. It still runs but the cuber plate lost all of its nickel coating and the plates are falling apart. I can't find parts so I guess I will just replace it. The old manitowoc machines were great machines! Enjoy your videos binge watch all the time

A machine that holds mold is the Hoshi. I would never sell a Hoshi to a customer that neglects cleaning his ice machine like that. Teh new Manitowoc's are much easier to clean. Been doing commercial refrigeration for 40 years now and typically the inspectors never open the ice machines. 50% of ice machine call they just need a good cleaning and sanitizing.

If you didn't know NAPA auto parts sells refrigerant and was the best price for me. I paid $104 (that is with tax.) They gave me AAA discount even though I don't have AAA so that was nice of them.

@fredflintstone80483 жыл бұрын
Run to failure is not always the wrong way to go. The money saved by not doing maintenance is used to buy a new one eventually. They got a lot of service out of the old one.
@throttlebottle59063 жыл бұрын
@@fredflintstone8048 unfortunately, it often works out better for them that way. A lot of that scenario is caused by shyster companies that won't do repairs/cleaning or price is to the moon and back, making the people say F-IT until it fully breaks. same thing happens in automotive, people end up driving until it quits and has destroyed multiple other parts, partially because failed diagnosis and bad repair work starts an endless yo-yo cycle of returns to the shop for the same issue.
@fredflintstone80483 жыл бұрын
@@throttlebottle5906 Good points. Also there's the consideration that not all maintenance extends the life of machinery any appreciable percent. There is also the design and build quality that can and does affect the life of a machine. Things like cleaning coils should be done not only for extending the lives of the refer systems but to allow them to function properly and efficiently. I think these things need to be analyzed on a case by case machine by machine basis and not all scenarios are the same so we cannot make a general rule. I do agree that often companies get paid to do maintenance work that they don't actually do properly if at all. I agree, it's the same with auto repair shops.. Many of them are just ripping off the customers.

Eeuw crustilicious. Not a fan of that design, the ice thickness probe always gives trouble when it gets even a sniff of scale. Hoshizaki, good call, my favourite ice makers. Hey do you guys in the US have reclaimed R404a available to you? It's a lot cheaper than virgin R404a here in the UK.

There’s fresh 404a. Not sure about reclaimed.
