I have watched this video so many times. My 2006 Jayco TT needs a roof and I've quite a bit of roof/water damage. My husband hates do it yourself stuff but I really like figuring things out because its sometimes too expensive to pay others to do things you can do yourself. You have given my confidence that I can do this but I'll be honest I'm scared to death. My uncle, an awesome carpenter was supposed to help but he can't now so I'm on my own. Never done anything like this or this big! Wish me luck. I'm sure I'll be keeping this video on "speed dial" to refer back to some things. I'll try to document with video as I go. Thanks for the great video.

You go girl. I have been contemplating the same thing on my 1993 Holiday Rambler motor home and even though my husband is very handy with things like this he thinks it's to big of a project for us to do. We built a barn from scratch so I think it's doable, however I may be on my own. LOL. Good luck with your project.

Hi Judy! Did you end up doing the roof? I’m curious to see how it went and what suggestions you might have. I am planning a complete roof replacement. I’m slowly tearing out the ceiling in our camper, there’s water damage and broken trusses everywhere! The mold is grossing me out. But I’m getting it done. I’m going to build all new trusses and then pull off the roof and old trusses and install new.

I am so grateful for these videos. The water damage in my RV is very similar to yours (roof and everywhere else). I thought it wasn't something I would be able to do on my own but thanks to your videos I already have some progress coming along. Also, your calmness when talking about the replacements is very reassuring that I don't need to freak out, just continue doing things one task at a time.

Just discovered our 37' 2007 Grand Junction had a roof leak around the TV antenna. From the inside the damage appears to be confined to the roof around the antenna. Been trying to figure out what to do. Just came across your roof series and will be going through all the videos and write up to see what will be required. Looks like your series will provide what's to be expected and give me the inspiration for do the job. If anything, I'll be able to quit scratching my head about this.

Perfect opportunity to install a greenhouse clean lexan optically pure roof perhaps. They even make the sheets in double wall so it has a vapor barrier double window effect, and you could always put a serious skylight on it, even build a cool vacuum table to pull heated sheets into any conical convex or concave shape you want if you made a interesting custom mold for the sheets to cool into shape on the vacuum table. Such a table can be giant if you were expecting to feed it 4x8 or longer or wider sheets. You make even order it in a giant roll from the factory, maybe even custom according to your asking em, they love innovative challenges if the idea is a good enough one that you or they want to consider. Custom roof deck options, from a fold down ajoining lower level perimeter deck area, you could park it right next to the waterfront and it would feel like you were sitting on your own dock fishing and getting properly tourist sunburnt. I just got a 40ft in my yard today from a trailerpark closing down, needs the roof, it has two major tip out sections that are in mint condition. Have all the building materials already to redo it including proper rubber roof compounds. Tomorrow, i get a zillion different types of patio stones and sheds and decks and other building materials, well over the next week. Bought another cheap 2 weeks ago, it helps that i have a couple acre hobby farm and giant 40x80ft shop and 30x50ft building to rebuild things, such as roofs of rv's in a indoor location. Cheers captain, happy rv'ing.

When rebuilding my rafters I did what you did with the 2 by 4 but I kept it in line with the old rafter by adding a half-inch plywood screwed to both sides of the 2x4. That way when it came time to install the new plywood the center line remained the same. In some places, I had to place a bottle jack under the rafter inside, to repair the elevation alignment.

Roof AC blows cold air and only uses 1600-watts. 1986 Model 18D 16-foot box. The roof is shot due to neglect. My bad. No way that I'm junking it. @@remodelyourrv Hey, are you anywhere near Denver Colorado I sure could use your help. I purchased at 99 wilderness Fleetwood and unfortunately has active leaks winter is setting in soon. it’s just me and one worker and I have never done anything like this. We’re in definitely need of guidance. we’ve taken off the back and the front fifth wheel. both other sides have to come up but we started with the roof to see how much damage is down those sides. there are 2 specific problems that I’m having trouble finding information on ...is the idea putting the TPO back on or actually using sheets of metal/tin and space/gaf tape ( airplane tape)... no terminal bars with screws and weatherstripping... less seams, less holes for water to get in. And the side around the slide, once that’s removed not sure how to replace it. It’s all in one piece but if you’re going to use the sheets of metal you’re going to seams going down and that’s where you use the space tape. It’s kind of a new concept… No screws… It’s a huge undertaking. I had no idea when I bought it how damaged it really was and I sure could use some help. Thanks so much denise

You did a great job on the roof and kudo's for sticking with it. I had a Nomad trailer with corrugated aluminum siding and it was the worst RV ever made. I will never purchase a RV with corrugated siding ever! That thing leaked all over and the siding had pin holes from electrolysis. I replaced the slide out floor completely rotted. I found a good deal on a King of the Road 36" fifth wheel and could not sell that Nomad fast enough. It was gone in two days! Flat fiberglass siding is the only way to go. I made a huge mistake by operating a propane heater inside during the winter and it produced so much condensation that it saturated the OSB wood sheets for the roof, delaminated the glue and soft spots all over the roof. I am now planning to replace the entire roof. So far it will cost 3k in materials alone. I was wondering how your floor went. Maybe I have to look for your next video? I know when you open up a can of worms it can be much worse than you ever thought. For your viewers P.S. Dicor is your friend and Silicone is your enemy.

I did not even install the fridge vent since I am only using electric fridge. I installed 3/4 inch plywood, 8 sheets at $60.00 a sheet. I ran wires along the roof for cat6, phone, cable for tv etc. when all the OSB was removed. Solar panel wiring runs to a junction box front center of roof. Security cameras mounted on roof also. I spent somewhere close to 7k and about 1K for labor. Much more expensive than I thought. It all adds up.

Once I started to pull away all the water damaged ceiling I found that a lot of the styrofoam is either damaged or swollen or still wet. I just ordered my TPO roofing kit. My question is, what do I do first? Should I replace the foam first then put on the new roof or put in the foam during the roof install. Everything on the roof has to go. Even the plywood is rotten. I also forgot to mention that I have done interior roof paneling repairs using plastic shower stall wall sheathing which I purchased at the big box hardware stores. Cut sections as needed and held it up in place with white Gorilla tape or Eternabond tape. One section I repaired from rot was directly above the shower so the shower wall plastic stuff worked great. The second place where I used the plastic sheet was in the bedroom vent section where I removed a old AC and needed to cover up the hole.

I spent a lot of time and energy dragging and putting up tools. Just rebuilding the water damage on the roof and replacing all of that material probably took 25-30 hrs. Again, there was a lot of time wasted dragging out and putting away tools.

Fantastic Job, Improvements to consider, Building a rises edge around cut outs, say 3 or 5mm thick plastic 25mm wide, laid around cut openings roof rubber ride up before being cut. THIS GIVES AN UPSTAND TO ROOF FLAT SURFACE. THE CAUSE OF YOUR REPAIR NEEING DOING. Next is laying black square gasket, another water fault. So bed roofing off cut. So maskic black gasket to roof rub that sitting high already. Then lay strips off top of gasket down gaskeupstand then out onto roof say 50mm 2"......so repeat of layers from ply, plastic strip, roof rubber gasket, strips roof rubber, then metal Air Con case. You are adding two extra barrier to any watergetting in. Instead of using gasket sealant corking etc, Infact 701 diel corner silicon is better, con outside, seal fish tank and bonds glass, plass no Aging to sun light.

Hi. I'd love to ask you a few questions. If possible.. and btw great information here in your video!! . . Thanks!!! So I bought a 91 coachman Catalina. Basically its me and my 2 daughters 6 and 8 and my best friend and her son who is 3. After leaving a bad 11 yr marriage last last June of 2020 and my best friend in a similar situation, we decided to buy an rv and travel for a year while our children are still young, so that's what we did. So knowing absolutely nothing about rvs we hoped in my car and headed 4hrs. away to buy a rv we found online. The guy told me it had a new motor and transmission...and the floor had been redone. When we get there we look around and say to each other "🤡🗯oh it just needs some TLC and a little paint 🤡🗯yeah just some paint!" ... 😐turns out it Needed a hell of a lot more then some tlc and paint....now it runs beautifully and for some odd reason its good on gas! I put $600 worth of battieris in it and she never misses a crank..will crank everytime! However it does have issues....first time it rained we had to swim out of it! 😄😭..well almost....so I have to replace the roof...from the back of the ac unit back its good... but there forward is a mess....the whole bathroom floor and back bathroom wall needs replacing..pretty much the whole left wall....got to replace plumbing....fix hydraulic system for the stabilizers....and then I have a issue I can't quite figure out..well 2 actually.....the main one is this...when I start to drive it's fine but once I get to 2nd gear....or if I'm going up a hill....this loud SHHHH like sound starts...drives me nuts!!! Imagine someone making the sound SHHHHHHHH! Not sssssss like a snake but like SHHHHH be quiet! Or like letting air out of a tier....I dont have any leakes nowhere.. had my rear end looked at and its fine....but as long as your going over 25mph your going to hear SHHHH and I hate it! Then lastly is it possible to replace all the siding on the outside,? I want to have it wrapped in a beach scene so I guess I'm kinda wondering should I worry about the siding? It's not to bad a few dings and broken parts and it bulges out in places. Well thanks for your time im fixing to try my luck here in this bathroom 😬and I really hope to Here back from you soon....thanks a million..and just in case you have some advice my email is Mckeeverkatherine5@gmail.com thanks again!

Hi and thanks for checking in. The sound your rig is making is very interesting and I'm not sure I have an answer for that one. Let me ask around a bit and see what I can find out. Maybe someone with more knowledge than me can chime in on here. In reference to the siding, I wouldn't personally replace it unless it is is badly damaged and in need of it. Especially if you plan on wrapping it. I think it would save you a lot of time and money that way. Good luck on your project and safe travels.

HELP/ADVICE RV'rs... I replaced the wood on my travel trailer roof and I'm not sure if I should use eterna Bond tape the mesh drywall tape at every OSB abutment joint. 1.Mesh drywall tape? 2. White 2"gorilla tape.? 3. 4 in eterna Bond tape? I replaced all 7 OSB plywood on my travel trailer and due to my inexperience not sure how I should protect the perimeter edges and the joints using which tape. I bought a 60 mil EPDM Rubber roof kit and I'm worried about the edges tearing the rubber roof and some people frowned that I bought a rubber roof when there was supposedly better roofing material that I could have used so that's kind of a downer because I don't know anything about the various types of roofing material that I could have bought something more durable. It's a 2007 copper canyon sprinter keystone camper 33 ft and been working on this repair solo for quite some time it is a lot of work repairing all the wood building rafters putting the new boards up priming the edges for eternal Bond tape in case I use the turnabon tape and fixing some of the delamination repairing spider cracks in the fiberglass and miscellaneous little Nixon cuts and it's come out pretty decent. So what tape should I use and on what area should I use the tape such as I was told to use mesh tape for all of the OSB joints and use eternal Bond tape or gorilla tape on the outer perimeter for the fiberglass and the rubber roof overlap each other to give it some extra strength and protection from tearing I also saw that some people put rubber tape or return a bond tape on top of the rubber roof on the side length all going all the way down front to back to give it protection as well on top so therefore I'm thinking that's a lot of eternal Bond tape a lot of money and there's going to be tape underneath and there's going to be tape on top of this to give a durability whereas some people use some of the old rubber from the old rubber roof cut slices and glue that in and then put the eternal on tape on top so not sure so I turned to all of you for your advice on my issue appreciate it as soon as possible as I'm sitting here just about to bring the rubber up to the roof and spread it out and prepare it for the first half of the roof to glue it down.

I think you made a mistake not taking out the water damaged wood and just treating it. I speak from experience with a house that had mold up in the attic due to a bathroom vent which spread to the roof decking and the rafters. I had a mold specialist come and do an assessment and I learned a lot about mold. Bottom line I was told it needs to be completely removed or encapsulated. Spray treatments don’t do it. So $11,000.00 later it was taken care of. They encapsulated the rafter with a special paint and then replaced all the decking and all the drywall in the bathroom. And now I’m dealing with water damage in a 2006 Outback travel trailer. Waiting for the estimate to come in. Very informative video and your blessed you can do the work yourself. Wishing you all best with your trailer going forward. You did a great job.
