Hey Mike. I have patched a hole in my tonneau cover a couple times now with this style kit. Keeps peeling away from edges! Any tips???
@slothman55206 жыл бұрын
Nice kit.
@SweetProjectCars6 жыл бұрын
Yes we have found that the edges will appeal if the area is not cleaned very very well with 99% rubbing alcohol the other reason it will happen is that there was not enough heat to get the edges to adhere when doing this we tend to have our focus on heating the very center and forget about the outer edges hope this helps my friend thanks Mike

Hello. How can I remove a poorly applied vinyl patch that was done using the 3M kit?
@SweetProjectCars2 жыл бұрын
You are probably going to have to use some heat, we suggest using this amzn.to/2I8XFRh You have to be very careful and slow warming it up the just use these amzn.to/3XEE8vC to pull the patch off. Remember, slowly warm it up and remove. If you are not comfortable doing this, you need to take it to a detail shop. Hope this helps Doug, thanks for watching. mad Mike the hammer SPC

@SweetProjectCars thank you for replying. Those videos give me some ideas. The car I am working on is a 1968 Oldsmobile Toronado with a vinyl top. Most of the damage is similar to the seat repair damage I watched in your videos. No vinyl repair guy around here will touch it. Replacement of the top, by a professional, is quoted at a minimum of $1500.00...I think trying a repair is worth the try. All the damage is centered on top in an appropriate 3 Sq foot area. I think if I vinyl repair the damaged area and dye the entire top, it will turn out OK. Worth a shot, anyway. I live in central Illinois, wish your shop was closer, lol. BTW, I really enjoy your videos.

Sweet Project Cars thanks for the list of 3 videos to re-watch. I think this kit is good to use as a substitute to spray paint because color matching with codes can vary a lot through fading and wear. Your videos use so little color to mix into the silicone that it almost seems wasteful to buy a whole can when I can mix up a color and make some repairs at the same time . Also awesome is the container to keep extra paint handy. A big thank you!

I had a bad tear in my king ranch leather, and though the leather is compromised anyway it’s dry and not in great shape. I was able to use a product like this and it did a pretty fair job of repairing that terror so yeah you know if you have Material that’s in good shape. You should be able to make a nice repair. And if you have like I did material that’s in really bad shape. You can make a just fine OK repair with it and that was a year and a half ago and it’s holding strong so yeah, don’t hesitate to try it, but you have to have a little bit of artistic flare to make a beautiful repair seamlessly. If you know what I mean it’s going to take more than just backyard. Joe you’re gonna have to have a little artistry and understanding colors and matching and mixing possibly and, and just that kind of thing. I would recommend that you practice on a piece of material a time or two so that you get a feel for how it works before you try to do it for real on your vehicle.

@Sweet Project Cars, I have a request for that upcoming video on fixing broken dashboards. I have an old 05 caravan that is suffering from shrinkage!.....lol. I know where your mind went on that one, don't lie!....lol. But in all seriousness, Due to the constant sun beating our dashboards take through the windshields of our cars, the dashboard around the top of my air vents in the center of the dash(3 air vents) has shrank and pulled away from the vents. The pleather, foam, all of it has shrunk and pulled upwards from the vent housing so it "looks" like it has the wrong dash parts installed but it doesn't. I wish I could post a pic so you can see exactly what I'm talking about but hopefully you know exactly what I'm dealing with. Is there a way to fix this? Can you find a dash like this and add a fix for it to your upcoming vid? Thanks bunches if you can! And as always, you guys rock!

Maybe better than green paper would be a way to take a negative imprint of your actual grain and utilize that

Yes, you have to let it stay on longer, you must be pulling it off too soon. Also, make sure you are heating it up well. Thanks for the question, hope this helps. Have a great day. mad Mike the hammer SPC

Another cool tip, Mike! That looks lik a repair kit worth having. Thanks for the demonstration. Would a hair dryer work as well as the heat gun? I do have one suggestion for you, Mike. You were really getting the jitters while mixing up that paint. Seriously, my friend, you need to cut back on all the coffee you've been drinking. :-)
@SweetProjectCars6 жыл бұрын
Ben you can try a hair dryer and see if it gets hot enough it needs to be around 200F LOL on the coffee, speeding up the process with the video editor makes it look crazy sometimes :) thanks for sharing mike

Oh and I just read your part about lots of storage I am with you on that we throw nothing away because we never know we may need it and when we do throw something away we wish we wouldn’t have because then we needed it so you need a boat load of storage your exactly correct my friend
