Great vid. Thanks. A couple of tips. The “thing” with the red cap is the power steering fluid reservoir. It MUST come out. 10mm bolt under it. Use open end wrench (no room to pull alternator otherwise) also unclip the hose above the alternator. Also the white radiator overflow will slide up and out. I did the entire project in 1hour 57 minutes.

Excellent video, really helped. I would recommend using a 1/2 blunt punch at the top to set the new alternator in the groove as it is very hard to get enough power when using a smaller longer punch. Also duck tape to hold the Serpentine belt on place on the pulleys worked well. In the end your walk through was the best I saw.

Thanks! Your video is the only written or video instruction I've found showing the hardest part, working the alternator out and in. I was stuck, and thought I was going to have to get my car towed to a shop, before I found your video. I had to completely remove my coolant tank, and really push over the power steering hose and tank hard. I think my plastic fuse box, and headlight connectors were having to bend out of the way more than yours. But it did work, thank goodness.

I just replaced the alternator on a 2002 MDX, and found it was much easier to lower the alt into the space on its pulley end, and then attach the two electrical connections, before bolting it to the engine. I, also, made an adapter wrench for holding the idler/tensioner pulley out of the way, while putting on a new serpentine belt. I wired the handle of the wrench to secure it in the "loaded" position, while I slipped on the new belt. If the wrench slipped off of the tensioning pulley bolt, and trapped a hand by the strong spring, you would have to call 911 to get help to get free.

How the hell would anyone ever get they're hand stuck under the tensioner 🤣

The battery is turning on , In my Acura MDX you think I’ll be the alternator? I take one cable out of the battery when on and it turns off .

Will this be the same on a 2002 mdx
@JaboTheMechanic5 жыл бұрын
Yes
@86royal4202 жыл бұрын
Fyi for ppl who may benefit from this info Yes 02-06 are first generation which is what this video covers but if your mdx is 07-14 then it's a 2nd generation and this video will not help 2nd generation is alot different and more complex but has a cheaper fix of changing the clutched pulley instead of the entire alternator but a guy has a decent video on the job on KZbin.

Do you know which was the positive and which was the negative wire on the alternator ?
@JaboTheMechanic4 жыл бұрын
There is no negative wire that goes to the alternator. Just only a positive cable
@zaybarz92004 жыл бұрын
Jabo The Mechanic but there’s two cable’s. One on on the opposite end of the alternator one in the top middle.

If it helps anyone, i didn't have to remove the coolant or power steering fluid. If you take the belt of it gets easier. You can fish it out and In the same way. I have to rotate it, turn it, flip, then willfully squeeze it pass to get the old one out then i did the same with getting the new one in without a hammer but i was doing a vavle adjustment a.t.s.t. so i did have a lot more space to move it. But i got it out that way with the engine fully assembled so, it might not matter. Hope this helps anyone
