It seems that the shut off valves are too close to eachother.
@warrenmichael9186 жыл бұрын
they are, but they are not secured from where he tied them into the old lines , so they will move up and down just enough to turn the valves on and off when needed im sure...

@@warrenmichael918 Shut off aka isolation valves are mandatory for new builds or replacements here in New Zealand. Been that way for quite a while personally I think it's great idea because if something goes wrong I don't have to rush out to the water meter valve near the mailbox where the mains water connects to a property connection.

I'm confused on the old Vanity look. How would you open the toilet tank. Say if you had to replace parts in the tank. You can't take the top off.
@compactcow4 жыл бұрын
You would probably have to remove the whole toilet or toilet tank
@austintalley40704 жыл бұрын
I had a counter top like that. You have enough room to lift the lid off and slide it out but not much room to work in the tank.
@omfgitspyrogirl3 жыл бұрын
Hilarious - didn't even notice that. Super impractical, but it looks amazing. I liked that look
@tomf41953 жыл бұрын
I had one that I just removed. Mine had a hinged section above the toilet lid which I could lift to access the tank. I don't think all of those type of counters have that hinged piece.

Why are the two water shutoffs so close together that you can’t turn the knobs because they hit each other?
@miguelescutia5556 Жыл бұрын
You can turn the knobs because those pipes have enough room to separate if you just push them apart. One of them has to be at 12 o'clock for the other to rotate though.

GFCI outlets are what are required when you put an outlet near water, its safe and breaks the connection at the outlet when it shorts.

Please never assume this is easy when coming to plumbing. As a rule I always know where the shut-offs are and make sure there is a local hardware store open for parts that are unexpected. I just replaced my bathroom floor and toilet and had issues on all aspects but I did know how to correct them as I had done this before. I didn't however know of the repair metal ring to repair a toilet flange so knowing a plummer that also works at the local home depot saved me a bunch of time and headaches. Good luck. When talking about shut-offs earlier you should have shut-offs at everything that has running water to it kitchen sink,toilet,bathroom sink and anywhere else cause in case of an emergency you can just shut the water off and still have water everywhere else. It really is more time consuming than hard though in my opinion of course.

I have never used anything to attach the sink to the base so the silicone is a no brainer I guess thank you. He had to modify the cabinet to include an outlet and to fit the drain pipe. His water lines also came from the floor up, whereas in most homes, they come from the wall out. His time will not be your time. Also, he's a pro, and judging by your question, you're not. His time will be much faster than your time. So, it's relative. If you were a pro, and if you wanted the same setup and encountered the same obstacles, I'd estimate a time of 1-2 hours.

So you basically quick skipped over the one part of this video that needs a video. How do you remove the shutoff valves without making a mess? How do you cut in for the new vanity??
@philthycoder Жыл бұрын
You simply need to shut off the water supply somewhere closer to the house inlet, or I suppose the main house supply if the bathroom is the first branch off after the water enters the house. Don't do supply line relocation like this video shows, though. This is a hackjob and is going to make someone's life more difficult down the road.

New vanity is garbage (whose bright idea was it to start putting particle board boxes in wet environments?). Outlet install into new vanity is terrible, sticks out a bunch. Plumbing hacks are gross and weaken an already fragile cabinet. Altogether one of the worst examples of craftsmanship I've seen on This Old House
