I just needed to replace a stud...however Ford makes it so the average joe can't do the job. This literally is the process to replace one stud or just replace the bearing! FML! And this all started with a wheel key not coming off so now it's costing me over $800

Just did this on my 2013. I usually work on my 4x4 truck and I've never worked on a car.. thank you for the instruction but I feel more in depth explanation could help. However I did drive my car home tonight so im not complaining

A tip to make life a bit easier, rap the new bearing in paper and then a in a poly bag and put in in the freezer for as long as you can as this shrinks the bearing, and once you have the bearing out clean the hub put the and then put it in some boiling water, when the hub id hot it expands remove it grease it and fit the bearing quick as a cold bearing will almost drop in, but be ready as the bearing will warm quick and return to it's normal size, it works both ways external bearings water proof bag and in boiling water and and the hub if it fits inside the bearing in the freezer.

An old trick called Shrink-fitting or Interference fit, you use the hot and cold trick when you fit a new starter ring on a flywheel.

the bearing alone was $59, I found the complete hub/knuckle with a new bearing already in it for $114. Made the job way easier and faster. By the time I paid a shop to press the stuff in and out for me, plus the time driving there and waiting... it made more sense to just replace it all. Remove old one, slap new knuckle on, reassemble.

Can you do this without removing the knuckle using a slide hammer? I am in the process of doing it like this and I hope it’s okay to do it that way.

I dont believe so as there is a circlip that needs removing at the back, unless you remove the drivehaft and manage to remove the clip then I suppose you could but that seems like it would be harder work to be honest... plus youd have to smack the new bearing in which isnt going to be good for it

@@ALLTHINGSJIM I actually just tried it yesterday and managed to get it done that way. I took off the driveshaft and control arm to remove the circlip, then I put the control arm and driveshaft back to hold it while I used the slide hammer. I pressed the new one in using a $60 bearing press kit from Amazon which worked phenomenally! I avoided having to do a wheel alignment, but probably spent almost as much on the press kit.

@@AAP0000 Do you mean that you used the slide hammer to PUSH the bearing out towards the driveshaft? I assume you had to then disconnect the driveshaft again to press in the new bearing and put the circlip back in and then press the hub into place. Please clarify. I'm not so sure that this saves a lot of work, but then again, you have done it and I haven't so you have more knowledge than I do! Thanks in advance.

@@utopia2112 So apparently my 2013 Focus SE is not the same as whatever year/submodel this is. Mine has the circlip at the front. I took the lower control arm off the knuckle so that I could remove the driveshaft. After removing the driveshaft, I put the lower control arm back on the knuckle so that it would stay put when I used the slide hammer. I then used the slide hammer to take out the wheel hub, which comes out with the inner wheel bearing race. Now that the hub was out with the inner race, I took off the circlip from the front. I the took the lower control arm off the knuckle again so that I could easily turn the knuckle side to side as needed. I used a kit that comes with a bunch of discs to press out the remains of the wheel bearing. Then I just simply pressed the new bearing in, put in a new circlip and assembled everything back together. I didn’t put the shaft back in until all this stuff was installed.

@@utopia2112 Wait, this guy’s video shows a focus with a circlip at the front, so mine is the same as his. Yes, you can do this with a slide hammer without removing the knuckle so that you don’t have to do a wheel alignment. When you press out the remaining wheel bearing, it is pressed out AWAY from the driveshaft. And no need to have the driveshaft in when you’re pressing in the new wheel bearing, the inside of the knuckle where the bearing goes has a tighter circle all the way at the back that stops you from pushing in the bearing too far in. Then once it’s pressed in to the point where it physically cannot go in further, you put the circlip on the front, which is where it goes in my focus.

So it looks like getting the bearing out requires a press of some sort. Could I just buy a whole steering knuckle with the bearing and wheel hub included and just change that out? Cause it looks like you took the whole knuckle off anyways.

Wheel bearings (front) on a Focus 2014 have been a complete nightmare for me. I ham pressing the old ones out just like this video of yours, then pressing the new ones in (even froze them for a better fit when pressing) ... Everything looks and feels fine but the moment I install this back on the car, I get the famous wheel wobble again .. It's beyond me what I am doing wrong as I am doing everything by the book! ... Help!

Hmmm thats odd, the only thing I can think of is the bearing getting damaged on installing if your pressing it in but not supporting the centre of the new bearing as your doing it.... might sound silly but are you also sure its the wheel bearing causing the wobble, have you checked everything else?

Yes I always supported the middle part of the bearing when pressing in the hub on my press, I used the old inner bearing to do it so the inner part was solid when pressing in the hub. I even installed ''without'' my impact wrench so doing the center nut up the old school way. Once it's all installed, it feels great, no wheel wobble with car jacked up. Once you take it for a test drive, jack it up, now wheel wobble is back ... I've been working on cars for over 30 years, wheel bearings were always a straight forward job until now, ... It's defeated me!

Thanks for the video. It really help me. I have a question. In order to take the lower control arm out of the hub I broke the rubber boot. Is there an easy way to replace it or do I need to replace the lower control arm?

Oh dear, you can get aftermarket boot kits you could try, otherwise its a new arm 👍

I did everything but press the Bearings in and out, took the entire assembly to a machine shop. Not that hard, just make sure you have all the tools and wd40.

No, I dont think it would be strong enough or have the right attachments to get the hub out the middle first

Im not 100% but im fairly sure the 2015 is just a facelift of the 2013 (new bumper, grille etc) they didnt change the actual body shape , so in theory yeah it should fit

@@emmfastRomanticas I've only seen the rear ones as an assembly so this is pretty much what you have to do. I was able to do it with the loaner tool from Advance with the knuckle on the car but it doesn't save that much time but it replaces the need for a press.
