My Cherokee Freedom's water pump took a dump on me yesterday and had to pull it into Lowes and leave it overnight. Came home and watched this video and got every part and tool size I would need, went to my baby this morning and success! Dude you rock! Thanks bud! She's home safe and running better! I like your attention to detail.

Awesome video! I just replaced mine yesterday. I will say this: I had some issues with the thermostat housing. These crack a lot and you need to be super careful when you put it back on. I had to buy a new one. Also, please use some RTV silicon gasket maker on the inside of the thermostat if your thermostat did not come with a rubber gasket on it. My local auto store did not sell my thermostat with a rubber gasket already on, so we had to use the RTV silicon stuff.

@@OutJeeping ok cool thanks! I think mine is about to go or is leaking bad. For awhile now, every time i start it in the morning, a pulley would squeak until it kinda warmed up and then went away. Yesterday it took alot longer for it to go away than usual. So i drove it to get groceries and run some errands. When i go to get back in it to drive home, it had a puddle under it. So when i got it home it was still coming out pretty good, what looked like to me was it was running down the front of the engine, and was dripping near the crank and oil pan. After talking to my dad and friend. We are pretty sure its the water pump. If you had to guess, would you say its the water pump also? Or could it be leaking right at the front of the oil pan?

My thermostat shipped to me with no gasket. Can I just use red rtv?
@OutJeeping

You can use that otherwise there are rtv types that are specific to cooling systems.

I'm halfway through doing mine now & there were some steps that would help first timers, that you didn't show or explain: best way to flush the block without removing block plugs; how to keep that water pump pulley from turning when you get to the last bolt (TIP: I use a vise grip to hold it in such a way that the vise grip jams against the thermostat housing); how best to get proper tension on the belt. THAT is something that I struggle with & hoped to see here. BTW: no gasket maker on the gaskets? Why not? I see that you don't answer questions but I hope that my observations will get others thinking & posting.

Funny enough I'm literally about to replace mine also haha... but what do you mean by gasket maker?
@OutJeeping
@OutJeeping 5 жыл бұрын
I answer what I can, but I get a bunch of comments a day I got to keep up with. You shouldn't need gasket maker for using a paper gasket. The paper gasket works fine on it's own as long as the surfaces are clean. I torqued down the water pump pulleys after I had the belt on to hold it. And for tightening the belt, I'm used to know where to tighten but usually it's when you get 1" of deflection.

@@SpidrMonky-kx5ku RTV sealant is what I really meant. There's a specific type for water pumps/thermostat housings. I used it on my installation.

No need for rtv if you clean the surface properly.

Is there any reason after my water pump install that after test driving my engine temp shot up to 260?

You probably got air trapped in the system, try to burp out the system

Wow I got it off. No heat just used a tool and was careful prying it off from behind. Rusted water pump wouldn’t let it go but I got it. Thank you again for getting back to me! This video helped me change my water pump and all. 🤟🏻🤟🏻
