How To Replace a MAF Sensor on a 2003 Toyota Prius ( P3191 Code)

Had Toyota Prius 2013. Took off air filter and stamp it against the wall to dust off dirt and put it back. Got P3190 and P3191 and engine stops and wont run anymore. Had car towed by AAA. I followed similar case on this KZbin from Sam1174 to replace new air filter and replace new Mass Air Flow sensor next to air filter housing. I clean housing filter with carburetor spray cleaner. Still won't run showing same P3190 and P3191. However, another video from Andrew W. shows he resets or erased the warning codes via his diagnostic tool. So I did erase my P3190 and P3191 warning codes, jump start the battery as it probably drain mine. Wow, engine started, I run the car to recharge hybrid battery. Have to thank this video from Sam1174 and Andrew W. as if I did not erased the warning codes even if MAS and Air Filter are brand new, Prius will not start. I cancelled my one-week rent-a-car. I skipped AAA advice to buy hybrid battery for $1,949.00. And cancelled Toyota repair service. Thank you.

It won't consume ANY gas. It won't run. If it's just a little dirty it will run badly, but if the MAF sensor is damaged the car won't run at all.

@ivanbgct Yep. I sprayed it inside and out with carb cleaner. That has worked for me in the past on other cars, but not this one. MAF sensors are very sensitive, precision instruments. On the Jag forum I frequent everyone says to NOT try to clean them because if there is nothing wrong with it before there definitely will be afterwards. in this case I had nothing to lose so I gave it a shot. It didn't work, unfortunately.

Did you spray mass air flow sensor cleaner to see if that solves the problem first?

Code P3101....engine, .P3191.....P3190......fail to start..... Engine low power output......Can be .Oil in throttle body, oil on MAF, PCV valve from rocker cover to air manifold fails and lets oil into throttle body, needs to be replaced or keeps clogging MAF sensor. Or failed fuel pump from worn fuel pump start relay, on older cars, or failed fuel pump, check fuel pressure.

Here in NC its illegal to reset or delete codes. No one will do it for you. Stupid law. because if your trying to fool inspection the car is gonna say if all test have been completed or not.so its still no way around it.

I live in NC. It's not illegal to reset your codes. Take your car to any auto parts store and ask them to reset your codes. They will do it for free.

i have been to multiple stores and they all said it was illegal. i didnt believe it so i kept trying. ive tried advance auto parts and autozone and oreilley.

Not so much illegal as just against store policy. The chain auto parts stores want you to buy thier parts thats why the read codes for free. If they erase a code that was intermittant or wont come back, they lose a chance at you buying their Chineese parts.

Buy diagnostic device so you can reset it yourself. I bought one from Amazon and it helped me save diagnostic check fees many times the price of device.

I cleaned out the oil from the Intake and the sensor, worked fine but the oil came back and woarnig light cam back on. Cleaned again worked fine then the oil came back, whats up with this? JBJON.com

JBJON.COM cant you jst clean it and save $
