Huge suggestion: after you cut the connector on top tape or solder already a new wire to the old wire so when you remove the old one you simultaneously run the new wire. You got an extra solder to do but I think it's faster

After static testing resistance of stator, coil and trigger at the cdi connections I noticed that after trying to start my gy6 the trigger would drop from 145 to around 35. Tap it with a 1/4 inch ratchet and it would go back in the 140ish range. I spliced in a trigger from an old stator and it fired right up. Next time I have an intermittent ignition issue the trigger will be the first thing I replace!!!

when you bend the pick up coil to the feeler gauge to get the required gap and then tighten the bolts the gap returns to about 3mm because their is no adjustment on the back plate it just springs back to where it was

NICE instructional , HOWEVER ,it would have been good if you started off in the video testing the Pulsar coil with an Ohm meter BEFORE ripping all the stuff apart .

Could a bad pick up cause bogging when throttle up,? Could the pick up need to be repositioned/gapped properly?

That's not common to my knowledge, but I suppose it's possible. No spark is most common. The pickup can be too close or too far from the reluctor and have issues. Many can't be moved much at all to change timing.

That would be kinda tough to do. They aren't really intended to be fiddled with, but on applications where you can change it a little from oversized bolt holes it's worth checking if possible.

My pickup coil on a 96 KTM 250sx is connected to the stator. I wound the pickup and am about 50 ohms over. I may still try to run it.

Strangely my GY6 has only the yellow and white charging wires, but when I replaced my stator, the new one came with the green ground wire attached to the header!

HI Yesterday I went out to start the 50cc and no cranking sound at all when I push the start button Battery is good, horn and brake light work When I take a test light and hook it to batt neg, I touch the starter relay pos and get a light, if I unhook the relay and hook test light to positive and probe the connectors they light up If I use a screwdriver and short the starter relay it makes a small cranking sound What should I do from here, and what do I need to replace? My right side kill switch is old, so I was thinking about replacing that and the relay Whats should I do next? TY for your help

hey you are a huge inspiration ... currently i am getting my provisional license then i shall be doing my CBT and i have a yamaha bws 50 and may be getting a aprilia rs50 and i am thinking of starting a youtube channel for it but just thinking what is the main thing people want to see... simple diy mods painting wheels little road trips top speeds and both bikes will be bone stock starting out with ??? btw this wont be until after christmas

+kierankay100 Thanks and good luck with your scooter and KZbin endeavors. If you're entertaining, vloggers seem to do the best. From what I see on YT, a good vlogger will have many many times the subscribers and an insane amount of views compared to the average scooter or motorcycle video maker. Personally, I suck at live speaking for vlogs so I stick with what I do and am interested in doing and try to make videos that are helpful when I can.

@@rsaranws5234 I'm not sure what "pickup kayal" means. I know pickup, but I'm not sure what you're saying with kayal. If the pickup has failed, there's not much that you can do. You have to replace it. If you are not sure that it is the pickup causing your problem, then you can test it. Check for voltage when the engine is cranked over. I'm not sure what it should be on your bike, but often it's about 0.5V. If you don't see voltage, you can try checking the gap between the pickup and reluctor and testing again. It should be between about 0.010" and 0.030" generally, or maybe there is a service manual specification for your bike.,

I replaced my stator, pickup and flywheel and I have done what you have done but my bike still doesn’t want to fire. It sounds like something’s scraping against the flywheel?

Check the gap between the pickup and reluctor. See if you find marks on the inside of the flywheel that would indicate contact with something.

Get an oil cooler. That will do a lot. Not sure about what fans fit.

@@49ccscoot I have a oil cooler kit, I been trying to see if anyone had any oiling issues with them, but no info found, only found a couple even being used, I have a new stater to install, I'm going to probably put the oil cooler on then, I have a dual temp gauge, I'm thinking oil temp, and head temp, or maybe CVT temp, maybe both, what is a normal heat temp, at the plug? I'm also thinking about going to the red tq spring, it seems to be shifting before the clutch grabs, I noticed it pulled the front wheel when taking off on a really steep hill, but doesn't have much power on flat land take off, so with the higher gears, and stiff spring, after a re tune of the slider weights, maybe it will have some power, it has mystery clutch springs, the 1500 springs didn't even grab at over 7k rpm, so I went back to the mystery springs, it may be 2k rpm springs, with the 1500 rpm TQ spring, why it has issues, I said I basically have it figured out, not fixed! Haha, in using 8g sliders, actually 7.8g i need to go to about 7.25 I think, pickup a few rpm, like 200-300 rpm, have a great day!

These use a CR7HSA. Some have a pickup for the clutch bell or rear pulley that reads speed. AFAIK they are used as speed limiters.

I don't think Yamaha sells it separately. Usually they just sell the whole stator assy.

+Joseph Murphy Yeah, you can wire them up so you just have the ignition components. Stator/pickup, CDI, coil, kill switch. It's not street legal or street safe, but would be good for a racer or offroad use.

Some have T and F marks or two marks where one will indicate top dead center and the other is where they expect the timing to be at some point.

Usually they're just male or female bullet connectors. You can get a new connector at most auto parts stores to crimp on.

@@twilson7384 Don't recall for sure. I believe it would be M6x1.0. An awful lot of fasteners are M6x1.0. If it's a little smaller, prob M5x0.8. A bit larger, prob M8x1.25. There's some really large stuff too, but those are the most common fasteners on Chinese scooters and IMO it's good to keep some around. If you get bolts a little long, you can always saw them and clean the end up in a pinch. Just always be careful not to force anything that you aren't certain about.

Good thing to remember is the number 25.4, because there are 25.4mm in 1in. So inches x 25.4 = mm or mm divided by 25.4 = inches. 0.010" = 0.254mm 0.030" = 0.762mm

I wanna say M5x0.8. Could be M6x1.0. Measure across the hole in the case and see if it's roughly 5mm or 6mm to be sure. Mine's stuffed in the corner ATM and hard to get to.

Hi,my motorbike turns off and On repeatedly while riding @ 4k-5k rpm and less than fuel of 2ltr. Can this be a symptom of bad pickup coil? ( if there is half a tank of petrol nothing happens.)

If it only happens when the fuel tank is low, then the fuel system should be the top suspect. Maybe a clogged fuel filter or hose, poor venting, or fuel pump/petcock trouble.

Ive had a similar problem. Its most likely something regarding fuel. Check fuel tank for dirt, fuel lines, and make sure furl is reaching carburator

Most common is losing spark altogether and then seeing no voltage coming from the pickup wire when the engine is rotated. Unplug the pickup and crank the engine over with a voltmeter's + probe on the pickup wire and - probe on a good ground. You should see roughly 0.5V, but it can vary a bit. Also check that gap between the pickup and reluctor before replacing if you do get a really low signal.

@@tonysilva8222 Glad you've got it going. Sorry my reply was late, but KZbin held it for some reason. Anyway, you can try to check connections for the tachometer. Check at the tach and if that's good then you can check wherever it ties in if you can trace it. Other option would be an aftermarket tach that connects to coil positive or one that uses inductive pickup so you just have to wrap it around the plug wire a few times. Trail Tech TTO tachs are popular, but there are quite a few options.

If i for example put a switch between either the blue/white or red/black wire, would that be like a killswitch instead like using the key you could kill the engine that way? ( I intend to do a " DIY killswitch " so doing keybangs would be easier :D

ErmaTheKitteh Just make a switch that applies a ground to the correct wire when on and it will disable the ignition. It's commonly a black wire with a white stripe.

I have the most insane spark problem its driving me nuts.. So. my scoot ran for 2 years all fine and dandy, then i went off to work one day and the thing just died in the middle of the road at 6:00 am and wouldnt start, so i got a new ignition coil, and it started right off, so i was like..Cool now i can go to work again with it. So i went to work and the scooter ran excelent to work and i parked it and shut it off normaly..Then after work i was getting ready to go home, and the scooter wouldnt create no spark again, it would crank but no bang.So i put the scoot on a trailer and hauled it home, still wouldnt start, next day it wouldnt start, now after 48 hours it starts normaly, i rode it for 5 minutes around the block and its fine..Like what the f***is goin on now? Im scared to ride it to work.. After i rode it around the block now the scoot wont spark again....... Should i just replace the pickup coil? Because proper Stator is realy hard to find where i live. Scoot is a 07 CPI Aragon Gp 50cc

That's a spark tester. You don't see many like that these days. Honestly, you can make something pretty similar with an old plug (best to use a larger type for more gap) and just cut the ground strap off or bend it all the way back. If thre pickup coil isn't working, there won't be a spark because there's no signal to trigger a spark.

boy,that IS a bad procedure what you do ,is solder (or tape,but you DO need a wide tape ,like duct tape ) the new wire to the old one before you pull it out of the jacket! you now know why.

Most are generic. For Chinese stuff, I've never bought a pickup specifically for the make/model. Get one advertised for a GY6 and most likely it's fine.
