Is your engine overheating? Do you not have any heat inside the cab? Could be your thermostat. This video covers how to remove the thermostat in the willys Jeep 134 go devil flat head 4 cylinder gasoline engine.

Appreciated. It may be simple but… there are many of us just starting out. 👍

The small hole has never negatively affected my cooling system. And I’ve never had air pockets.

Great, helpful video! Do you happen to know the length of the three bolts that hold the thermostat housing to the head? When I took mine off, there were two different length bolts.

Do you have a video on replacing the fuel pump for an f134? I want to make sure that I do it correctly.

Great, how do you remove that sleeve if there is already one in there ? Cant remove the stat with the old one in there Apart from that, its pretty much the same as a Ford Cortina (a UK vehicle)

I didn’t believe you that people rigged up stuff to hold the thermostat till I opened up my Jeep. Yup three screws diagonally holding the thermostat in place. Wow more work to do it the wrong way.

I have a generator with a 4 cylinder Jeep willys engine ZXB M5 generator. Really nasty radiator flushes, installed a temperature gauge. At shut down engine temperature red 165 and raised to 185. I'm still doing engine flushes just because it was that bad full of debris and junk. For these older world war two machines what kind of radiator fluid should you use and what kind of radiator thermostat should I buy at what temperatures? As in the temperature reading on the thermostat itself and what's the proper reading of the engine a manual says 165 to 140. Thermostat open at 165 fully closed at 140, so this is why I feel that it's overheating

Just plain old green stuff is fine for these Jeeps. It’s very common for them to run between 170-190. I don’t worry until they get over 210. If it’s not blowing steam or losing coolant then it’s probably fine.

Really appreciate you getting back to me very rare that people still talk about or want to talk about these engines, one other question the thermostat mine came with the original brass thermostat, today's models of thermostats will those work just fine and these engines I would have to say I would choose the CJ5 thermostat for my zxb M5 generator 4-cylinder. Your thoughts and opinions?

Very soon! I’ve been swamped in the machine shop making parts and tools for people. Now that I’m caught up and the weather is improving I’m ready to test into it!

Why is the thermostat up in the housing and not in the head ? seems to me that it would open sooner in the head , ?

The location is a non-issue. It’s how it was designed.
