Just did this on a 96 T-Bird, sooooooooo much more difficult. The cross member basically cradles the adapter and the swap bar is just a cock block. I found removing the battery, overflow tank and moving the fusebox gave me great room up top and with the little peek a boo hole above the frame in the driver wheel well and with the help of a 2ft extension and a swivel 10mm (MANDATORY for both) I managed to win.

Great video, thanks for posting! I have this same issue and while its frustrating that I literally just replaced the radiator (new coolant) and changed the oil, I'm extremely glad it is so simple! Thanks for sharing!

Do you really have to the drain the coolant and the oil to change the oil housing gasket ? Or could you just change the gasket without doing all that ?
@Djuane9 жыл бұрын
idk why he drained the coolant but the oil definetly has to be drained because if not oil will come pouring out once you loosen those bolts
@michaeltrubilla25228 жыл бұрын
+revelationns The coolant also runs through the oil filter housing. It's a goofy design but if you don't do it, your coolant will rush out and enter your oil system causing a lot of problems.

+Demodu lates om 2005 GT; if you lift your car from the front with ramps or jacks, you don't need to drain the oil. The oil will go the rear end of the pan through gravity and stay there. When you take out the oil filter, some oil will come out but that's it. I just did it this way and everything went fine.

Thanks for the video, it showed me I could do it myself on my 2005 GT, which I did today. For those who have a S197, if you raise your car from the front to do it, with jacks or ramps, you don't need to drain the oil. It will go at the end of the pan and stay there. You'll just get a big drip from the oil that lurks in the filter. The pitta is the coolant hose. You don't have the space you have on former generation. You can't move the clamp like DIY shows on the vid. I had to unscrew the housing because in couldn't move the clamp back in place and start anew. To save some time, you have to do this with the clamp before you re install the housing with the new gasket; whilst the hose is free move the clamp all the way to the front and make sure that "hears" of the clamp (where you hook your wrench) are turned downward. Then install the housing. Then you can squeeze the clamp whilst you insert the hose back in place with the other hand. Hope this help.

What about draining engine coolant?
@vondenballs8 жыл бұрын
I drained the engine coolant from the radiator before I started. I still got a big amount of coolant on my hand when I removed the hose. On the S 197 V8, the coolant capacity is 13.7 quarts. I had to refill about 8 quarts after the procedure.
