just changed this gasket on my 2003 mach 1 two days ago.Well, I started 3days ago. I didnt know about all these informative vids until yesterday. I bought the gasket "for the mach1 " from a rival parts house that starts with the letter A and has the letter "z" in it also. Just for Everyone's knowledge, the FELPRO gasket package for the mach 1 is labeled for the GT and the GT is labeled for the Mach1. the GT coolant passage is smaller and shaped differently.This is why you just need to order the one from LMR. I have finally found a company that I can trust for the correct parts the first time. And Customer Service is Amazing

damn now I'm worried I got the wrong one for the Navigator, it has the same engine in 5.4 displacement which one is the older one, that's probably mine since its an '02. I ordered from Amazon, even cheaper than A___Z___. mine is the four valve like the mach 1, I don't think there were any two valve navigators so maybe I'm good.

@snap-off53833 жыл бұрын
This is a SERIOUS do not put off, if you put it off, CHECK YOUR OIL CONSTANTLY, and you're still at risk. WHY: This engine has 32 valves, (svt and mach 1, and old navigators), 16 for GT, each with its own hydraulic lash adjuster and roller follower (rocker). They ALL need full oil pressure to stay firm against the camshaft. At the point the leak in your gasket gets bad enough to drain your oil too low, OR allow air bubbles to be sucked IN on the intake port, air will be pumped to these adjusters, allowing your followers to bounce on your cam. You'll start to hear ticks as your needle bearings in the roller followers get red-hot and deform, and the case hardened faces of the follower and camshaft get scored to hell. Its a pretty major repair. All because of a damn 8 dollar gasket.

Just did this on a 96 T-Bird, sooooooooo much more difficult. The cross member basically cradles the adapter and the swap bar is just a cock block. I found removing the battery, overflow tank and moving the fusebox gave me great room up top and with the little peek a boo hole above the frame in the driver wheel well and with the help of a 2ft extension and a swivel 10mm (MANDATORY for both) I managed to win.

Yeah, it's in the same place, just more cramped. Oh, and my 96 had a different oil pressure switch connection just one wire, a red gooseneck looking thing, It took me a min to figure out how to remove it because I was afraid of breaking it, but it's pretty sturdy just use a pair of needle-nose pliers to pull it off the stud. Good Luck Friend!

Done. I'm going to test it in a little while. I liken the experience to building a boat model in a bottle - an opaque dirty bottle. Took me three hours to remove it and about an hour to replace it. I hope it does not continue to leak or give me a "check engine" light on. Ha-ha.

Does anybody have any tips on removing the hose from the oil filter housing? mine is practically glued togther with grime and am just looking to speed the process up
@latemodelrestoration Жыл бұрын
If you feel like the lower radiator hose needs to be replaced, just cut it and remove the short section of the hose once the oil filter adapter housing is removed from the engine block. Hassling with trying to remove the stuck hose could cause enough damage where you would have to replace the hose regardless. -Landan

So, the 1992-99 modular engine has a completely different gasket. It has a different shape and the large port is not the same either. You may want to update your listing and offer the early gasket for proper fitment. The part number for the older engines also does not supersede to the newer.
