Had to go thru a lot of videos just to finally tell me which side of the gasket goes toward the manifold. Great video!

Thank you! This helped me view under the passenger side exhaust manifold heat shield. I now know how to remove it 1985 C10 SBC. Another tip for exhaust manifold bolts Kroil spray. Let sit a few hours then GENTLY smack the bolts a few times with a large hammer. Gently is key then spray again let wait overnight.

Thanks for the video. The cover pic actually gave me the answer I was after. Got the same odd ball exhaust gasket with an extra tab for a 4.3 and couldnt see where it went in my astro van. Passenger side cylinder 6 for anyone else lookin for the same answer

Anyone know how tight to torque the flange nuts onto the studs? These have the heavy spring between the nut and the flange, so just tighten them right down? thanks.

Which way does the gasket go if it's all metallic? Flat side or rippled side towards the cylinder head?
@nathanharris8624 Жыл бұрын
Flat side

What is the part number & brand to the gasket that goes between exhaust manifold and EFE Valve?

I cant remember sorry! I got the parts at Autozone however. They are on a 350 Crate motor. Gaskets were Felpro

my manifolds were warped so I got em machined but I'm still having trouble getting em to seal up against the block, do u think doubling the gaskets would work?
@MechanicLife6 жыл бұрын
No. When you compress them together they will have the tenancy to split or smoosh each other out of the way of the other one creating leaks. Most of the time you can find a thicker gasket. Are you using any gasket maker with your gasket? Permatex makes some for exhaust manifolds called ultra copper. That would also be a solution. Did you throw a straight edge on the manifold face to check how well the machining was done on them by chance?
@Kingofspokes6 жыл бұрын
What do u think I should do then?
@MechanicLife6 жыл бұрын
1.) Put a straight edge on your manifolds and confirm they machined them down correctly. Your straight edge should lay flat against all of the ports on the manifold. Also check how even the block is with a straight edge. Check minute 8:04 of my other video. kzbin.info/www/bejne/pX23qHiJiNmlarc&lc=z23asf4acwbivl0rv04t1aokgb4a01zpzcplk0uwmh1crk0h00410 2.) If that checks out, I would hit up an auto parts store and see if they make a thicker gasket first/check out Summit Racing or Jegs for thicker gaskets. You can find extra thick ones. Also make sure you are using new studs. The old ones will stretch. Make sure you are using the right patter torquing down the bolts to spec as well. I have over tightened a few times causing leaks that way;) 2.)Try Permatex with your gasket. Make sure you let it cure for at least 24 hours before you start your motor. 3.) Worst case. Buy new manifolds. What engine are you working on?

If your car has a one-piece gasket unlike this truck then you need to check the surface against a straight edge and shine a light behind it. You should just try to file it yourself if the metal shop ground down uneven surfaces..

Great Video you did. But, if you’re using Fel - Pro gaskets there’s no need to use RVT gaskets glue. Fel-Pro gaskets automatically sealed itself.

My gaskets are metallic on both sides....hmm
@MechanicLife6 жыл бұрын
If there is a smooth, metallic side and a composite side, the smooth metallic side should be installed facing out, meaning toward the exhaust manifold.
