you did way too much work. all I did was unbolt the strut from the steering knuckle and remove the brake line and ABS sensor wire from the strut.

I did mine in the driveway alone with just the passenger side jacked up and a jack stand on my back in the dark in less than 2 hours did not remove lower control arm just removed the 2 bolts connecting the strut to hub assembly. When doing the passenger side just jack up the passenger side you will lose far less fluid. The only part I struggled with was the top bolt on the support bracket had to use a 12 mm wrench to break it loose a couple turns as I did not have a swivel at the time.

You blew by the part I needed to see. When you removed the axle, there is a ring type washer pressed about a foot from the inner spline. I tapped it off the old axle, but on the remanufactured axle it does Press fit on. The diameter is smaller and the washer doesn’t have any way to stay in place. What is it used for...?? Plus, I was hoping to replace the transaxle seal, but it looks almost impossible to access.

I don't get why the lower control arm was loosened if it was just an axle replacement. All you had to do is loosen the 2 bolts at the lower end of the strut and the axle comes out rather easy...?

You need to do this in order to have enough room to remove the axle. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com 866-403-3393

Like I said earlier, the axle comes out rather easy without removing the lower control arm bolts, only the 2 lower strut bolts. I've done this before on 5th gen maximas and they come out like that.

I've done this a few times lower control arm does not have to be removed also do not pry just tap on the top of the mounting section with the three bolts and it will break free. Good video

@@osos231 I didn't remove the control arms but I did have the strut/spring assembly out for replacing the insert. I had plenty of room but if removing the CAs made it easier then let them have at it.

I just did this while replacing the struts on a 2001 Maxima 5 speed. It was ridiculously easy. Remove the three support bracket bolts (using 12mm wrench w/ 14mm cheater wrench for leverage) and yank. Reassembly was even easier. The vid was helpful tho. Thanks!

Thanks 1A auto. This worked on my 2001 Nissan Maxima. Did it in the driveway with jacks and jack stands. Job was very difficult nonetheless. Took me 3.5 hrs without impact tools. Most of the bolts required extra pipe leverage. I couldn't get the 12mm axle bracket bolts out with extensions and sockets, but I was able to get them with a 12mm wrench.

Honestly i have an 04 Maxima and it seems like honestly all maximas give problems like these and even worse ones. If your looking to get one of these maximas please don't. Save yourself money and headaches.

270,000 on mine and never had a major problem. just gotta treat them right.

04s were built in the usa not japan so they have quality issues compared to 03 and before

04's are known for timing chain failures caused by work the chain wearing out the plastic guide. my 2002 is at 285,000 miles only main complaint is the throwout bearing has gone out 3 times in 8 years, replaced the dual mass flywheel, and fix the rear main seal leak.. all the other small repairs I don't sweat.
