RESPONDING TO SOME COMMENTS I'M SEEING - Yes, I am aware that a cow does not have to be PREGNANT the entire time they are producing milk, I apologize for my poor choice of words. What I meant was that a cow MUST be impregnated and give birth to a calf in order to produce milk. Here's a quote from BC DAIRY (yes, this is a quote from the dairy industry) - "Before any cow can make milk, she must have a calf. A female dairy cow will have her first calf when she is around two years old and will produce milk for around 10 months. After each 10 month period, each cow will have two months of rest “off”. Before they begin producing milk again, they must have another calf."

The problem is just that parents get told by the dairy industry that children NEED cows milk to be healthy, which has been proven as incorrect, but it's hard to get out of the heads of many parents. Some children even have problems with milk and have skin and stomach problems from the lactose they are allergic against and the parents still believe in the lie that children need the calcium through cow's milk. That's clever marketing in action.

Btw, in addition to sending all the male calves to the slaughterhouse, about 1/2 of the female calves go as well. Dairy cows (which can live to age 20) are sent to the slaughterhouse when milk production drops around age 5. So every year the dairy factory needs to replace about 1/5 of their cows. Assume some calves die, and maybe some adult cows die or suffer a drop in milk production early, and you get a need to replace about 1/4 of the herd every year. Half of all calves born each year are female, but the dairy only needs 1/4. So all male calves and half of all female calves go the the slaughterhouse every year.

Actually, cows give milk after giving birth to feed their calves. However, since they are repedetly impregnated, they often continue to lacte during their next pregnancy. Therefore, there can be found specific hormones in their milk. Those hormones were linked to hormone related cancers by some researchers. However, these findings are still discussed. Otherwise, the topic of milk consumptoon was really informative and well explained.

Found this in my local Dollar Tree ($1 store) in 1 quart cartons. It'sdelicious, almost $2 cheaper per gallon, and smaller shelf stable containers means I can stockpile and not worry about it going bad. Win.

Egg replacement video next pretty please! It’s the only animal product that I’m struggling with. I learned how to bake with alternatives (applesauce, flax “egg”) and a big fan of tofu scramble, but it’s still hard 🐣

I used to work on a farm. They sold beef cows. The calves sold were around 1 year old, it used to break my heart hearing the mama cows hollering for their baby when they were taken away :( They DO love, feel, and have emotions!

I know I felt the meat withdrawals when I went pescetarian. Yes, I'm a monster that still eats fish, but I'm working on it. Now the smell of cooking meat is sour on my nose. My dad cooks bacon and all I smell is sour pork. He bought some fried chicken on clearance from the deli and it hurt my nose, almost made me stop breathing. I've been pescetarian now for almost 6 months and I won't go back to eating land meat. Thanks for this video. I'm actually intollerant to milk. So I'll try to cut it out. However, living in a small town in Texas means I'll have to make most of the dairy free stuff. They have silk, almond breeze and stuff like that here, but if I want the sweetened stuff I have to go to the United here instead of Wal-Mart. They also have the dairy-free Ben & Jerry's and Haugan Daus... Spelled that poorly. Now I want some.

Fair warning everyone, she touches on the cruelty aspect of dairymilk and so if this is something you cannot think about or hear right now, skip ahead to 9mins or so.

I've decided to ditch dairy! I stopped eating meat about a year ago and am glad I did. I stopped eating meat for ethical reasons. I understand there are ethical reasons around dairy (you've made the argument very well) but I'm giving it up for health reasons. I've had allergies for so long and also sometimes have issues with dry skin. I'm glad I found your video.

My 2 month old (along with MANY babies) is intolerant to milk protein which is even harder to avoid than lactose. So since he is exclusively breastfed I am required to cut out all dairy. So here I am to learn!!

It's very cheap and easy to make your own oat milk. All you need is oats and water and a blender. It will separate but just shake it before using it.

hmmm I'm not a huge sour cream person (which is probably how I missed it in this video lol)!! But I tried making some one time with cashews, and it turned out pretty good ~ although I'm not sure if it tasted exactly like sour cream. I suggest trying out a few recipes and seeing what you like !

I’ve tried going vegan three times before, but it didn’t stick. I’m now on try 4, but this time I am 90% motivated by just not wanting to eat animals anymore. Being healthier is just a bonus. It makes me feel bad to hurt animals and I’m over it.

I have been vegetarian for more than half my life. I have been dairy free before but I went back to it. Now I’m going dairy free again. I don’t have any digestive issues but I have a lot of reasons. The one thing I have found challenging is coffee creamer. I haven’t found a really great replacement.

I don’t crave dairy products, but I do crave foods with dairy and eggs in them like desserts and pancakes. That’s my Achilles heel. I know vegan desserts exist but most restaurants don’t carry them!! I’m trying!!!!

I don’t think I could ever go vegan although I’ve been vegetarian my entire life(no meat or fish).Cheese is hard to give up because there is nothing out there that tastes as good and I just love cheese ..I’ll eat it over chocolate...another thing I can’t give up! Also vegan products are much more expensive. Plant milk is much more expensive by the bag than traditional milk. Same goes for vegan products (burgers, hotdogs etc). I do however make vegan recipes when I can since most blogs and channels are plant based these days as opposed to vegetarian so I guess that’s something

Wax On Wax Off -- try Daiya cheddar style. It's the only easily available vegan 'cheese' product that I have found to have any flavor. It's like a mild cheddar. But don't waste your money on Daiya's American Style, which has almost identical packaging. It's practically flavorless. Yes, Daiya's cheddar is almost twice as expensive as cow-based pre-sliced cheddar. But it has no mammalian estrogen, less saturated fat, and no unhealthy trans-fats. Yes, dairy and beef naturally contain 3-8% super unhealthy trans fats. So, even if you don't plan to become vegan, you could justify the added expense as a premium for a healthier product. And every supermarket around me stocks it, except for Walmart. You just need to find what odd place they put it, generally near the vegetables, but never near the cheeses.

Making your own oat milk is inexpensive. You can make it as thin, thick, plain, sweet, vanilla as you like. I also make my own Tahini "cheese" sauce much tastier than most fake cheeses out there. Definitely, less expensive to make it yourself. Spicy Chipotle Tahini Sauce: Tahini 1/2 cup Apple cider vinegar 2 tablespoon Water 1/2 cup Garlic two cloves Chipotle peppers 2 Blend until smooth

The Silk creamer in the hazelnut flavour is amazing. It's literally the only non dairy creamer that doesn't separate when you add it to your hot coffee. The Coffee Mate non dairy looks curdled the second you pour it in. Sorry Rose...black coffee = sad coffee to me. 😆

Also though if you want to be dairy free you gotta look at the ingredients in other things....because for some reason, they put milk or milk "powder" (whatever TF that is) in a LOT of things that shouldn't have milk or you wouldn't think. For me, it's pretty easy to get rid of the obvious milk and cheese (cheese a bit harder, but not after I found a vegan cheese I liked and started cooking everything myself and realized that I actually rarely eat cheese if I cook myself). But what's tricky is the milk they sneak into products.

From my experience living in a dairy farm none of the female cows have never been forcibly injected with bull sperm. In my experience a female cow can have a baby once and if you keep milking it, it keeps producing milk. ( and we owned an organic dairy farm in Texas)
