My EGR tube fell/broke off the bottom flange when I moved it while replacing the EGR on top. I had to take the tire off to get access. It turns out the bottom flange nut on mine was basically destroyed from exhaust & rust and about 40% of the nut split off when I tried to turn it while the rest stayed stuck hard on the threads. I let several applications of Liquid Wrench penetrant soak in over an hour or so and was just barely able to get the 15/16s wrench (I think it's metric, but that's the largest wrench I had on hand) on what remained and got it loose. Once it loosened a bit I was able to twist it and it ended up falling right off with some prying force but would have been able to work it up the threads at that point too. Since I didn't have a replacement pipe on hand I ended up getting some foil tape and wrapped several layers around the connector and the EGR pipe to keep it positioned correctly while I wait for the replacement to arrive.

I own a 1999 F-150 XLT with a 5.4 in it, and this same tube is bad on mine as well!! BUT my problems are much, much, MUCH worse!! To begin with the nut holding it to the nipple on the manifold is only "half there" so there is not really a "nut to wrench off" at the exhaust manifold to really speak of!! Problem number two is there are no threads left on the nipple the tube attaches too either so the nipple itself would have to be replaced!! Because it is already so rusted that I am certain I will never get it out of the manifold to begin with!! I talked to my mechanic (the guy I use when I don't have time or tools to work on most things beyond my abilities) and he told me "If you try to remove the nipple it is easier to put the manifold in a vice and heat the living hell out of it until the whole area is glowing orange!", which sounds about right to me.....but I don't own a shop or a vice or a workbench or even a torch that would get that hot enough to remove it!! THEN he tells me "If you try to remove the exhaust manifold you most likely will snap off the bolts inside the cylinder head anyhow, so you will have to remove the intake, the timing belt and the cylinder head from the whole engine just to replace both the nipple and the pipe to fix the EGR tube!!" Seems like now it would be easier to get a different truck instead of trying to repair the exhaust leak that keeps throwing "check engine" codes!! Besides I should point out my truck is only a $500 beater!! I already replaced the brakes, gas tank, tires and one of the leaf spring mounts in the rear on it!! PLUS it has newer tired on it that are in really decent shape.......and the thing runs well enough even with the check engine light on!! BUT in New York, a check engine light is an automatic fail on inspection!!

What about using some exhaust tape repair/weld, I have exactly the same issues, mine had the same problem exhaust flange loose and I was able to fix it with clamps but when I check there was a leak in the manifold and the EGR hose, honestly I don’t want to pay $1000 bucks to pay for a manifold that might fail right away, Ford discontinued this product, so what’s left….a little bit of welding tape exhaust repair

Do you have to remove the entire EGR pipe or can you just unscrew it where it connects to the EGR valve? I'm just replacing the EGR valve or should the pipe be replaced as well? Thank you

So I want to make sure I’m putting the right hose on the right side. Which side does the top EGR tube hose go to and which side does the bottom one go to. Left or right of EGR pressure sensor

I just replaced both exhaust manifold,got the dipstick out today and tomorrow working on EGR tube and exhaust pipe bolts, hopefully my EGR tube comes off the valve, the tube is ok except the nut on the manifold is gone

I couldnt get the bottom nut off my tube so i left it i wanted to clean it out but i ran engine and exhaust is coming out of it on the top so not sure why i had a code for egr my valve works fine too.

At timestamp 1:12 the green line right under his hand is the EGR valve vacuum line, that line comes from the EGR vacuum solenoid which pulses the EGR to let exhaust gases back in to the intake for mixture control. At the same timestamp to the right, just under the 1A logo is the EVAP purge valve and the green connector on that hose line connects to the intake manifold.

A torch. You can buy the whole thing at Walmart for under $10. At least you could when I last bought one. Make sure it comes with the igniter, not just the bottle of propane.

Could those tubes get clogged and make your car run bad like you bad convertors.......I have no convertors on me 4.6 after I ride a while I get poor acceleration and no acceleration power like some stoped up plz help

the open end wrench size is not 26 mm but 29 mm.

I just unhooked the lower end of mine with an 1 1/16" which converts to 26.9875mm and I had no slop. Maybe some of these are different. Maybe it is an actual american sized nut. I doubt it, but could be.

If only they make videos of newer trucks of 2010-15, rather than these outdated trucks if only they see the newer egr valves today,these old ones you can substitute with a coke can.
