Loosen and pull Alternator forward to gain clear access to the Egr valve and reduce the possibility to strip or snap bolt. Good video and thanks for showing it in detail.

That is a good idea also keeps one from cross threading the bottom bolt which btw is easy enough to do don't ask me how I know Just know I'm a shade tree mechanic and the weather was 120 8n the shade o have sight issues and the sweat was just rolling off me onto my glasses making me very irritated. Just saying....

So as a little reference as a Hind sight. As you said before cutting a stot on the bottom of your EGR and gasket also one might consider cutting a slot in head of bolt so you could use a screwdriver where it gets to the alternator and not enough room unless you have very thin walled sockets just don't think they make them that thin. Thank you for your perseverance.

What a bout a 04 Dodge caravan SXT bottom bolt on the EGR valve next to the alternator? Hard spot need help. I think I have stripped the bolt uing a 10mm I will try the extractor.

Oh damn then u got to remove the alternator r

An fyi. I discovered that if you take the upper bolt out of the alternator you can use a pry bar to move the alternator forward enough that the lower EGR bolt is easy to get at. Now here is my question: I also had code 0404 on my 05 dodge caravan. I changed the EGR. Got everything connected back up and to my shock now my van gave a new code 0406 voltage high … I don’t get it. I got another new EGR and replaced the first new one. Same code 0406 came up. Any idea what it is?

I think ur valve is defective I had similar issue I went though 4 valves

Oh ok. I have already tried 2 new ones and still get the 0406 code. I’ll try another

@@Truthshouldbeknown I know it’s lot but I would say go original from dealer. The parts from after marker are so crappy I installed oil pressure switch last week and customer called me after 7 days switch is bad.

Can that pipe that’s on top of the Egr valve be replaced or cleaned?
@RBTheMechanic11 ай бұрын
Yes but u can stick somthing through it to see if it’s blocked or not mostlikely it’s not blocked

Damn I'm mad 😡 that bottom bolt is blocking it before it comes out. Did exactly what you said and your right a slot would have been great. I might just cut dat be och before I install it
@RBTheMechanic2 жыл бұрын
If u loosen it but then u can tilt it out
@red29652 жыл бұрын
@@RBTheMechanic I managed to get it but it was a bitch. I used a pair of needle nose pliers. ( Space to thin for a socket) When I installed it I put only the bottom bolt in went in fine tilted but I be damn if that gasket didn't fall down and when I noticed it I wasn't able to get it in place had to take back off and then I think sadly I might have cross threaded the thing. I have owned Mopar products most of my 57 years and they only get worse kind of like Chevy after we bailed them out their quality went to crap

Should first removed the 2 upper 8mm bolts, then a person would have a bit flexibility on the valve to remove that lower trouble 10mm, that should be removed using a 1/4" socket and extension. No need to touch alternator. Using an electric or air ratchet after breaking bolt loose is beneficial. I'm actually going down to remove it for the 2nd time.
@red29652 жыл бұрын
A 1/4" socket and extension for a 10 mm bolt? How's that working for you.
@MusicMinisterJP7 Жыл бұрын
@@red2965 It worked, for me. Tools are designed to address problematic situations. There are sockets made in 1/4" for upto a certain size, that can withstand specific torque.
