How To Replace Extruder Gear for Bambu Lab X1C & P1

I hate to repeat what everyone else has already said, but man, can I tell you? My afternoon today was filled with panic as I came to realize that I had a sort of jam I had never seen before, and that Bambu's documentation was utterly unhelpful for dealing with. Your video gave me the confidence to take apart my extruder, get the filament out, and put it together again, and I'm back and working! Particular props for repeatedly pointing out the bushings that needed to be in place. I definitely accidentally removed one without noticing it, and without your video going "pay attention to making sure the bushing is back" I would have been stuck dead in the water.

Yup I had the same thing and noticed in other instructions to print out a stand to allow you to punch it out and Im like "but I cant print anything right now!" Lucky I found something and I was able to tap it out although I didnt record that at the time so kind of had to fake it in the video but felt it was important to try and imitate it again because I could see it being a common issue. Anyway thanks for watching and glad it helped :)

Thank you, sir. Bambu is no help. My extruder was jammed before the gears in less than a month of use. I had no choice but to pull apart the gears. Went well thanks to you!

Great video. Thank you for making it. I ran across your video while trying to do further troubleshooting as my extruder is still doing the same thing as before. Initially I had a hotend and an extruder clog but neither were anything terrible. Disassembly and fidling around with those tiny cables was a real mother but I got it taken care of. During reassembly I noticed I was missing the little "tensioining screw" that goes inside the spring. Without it the pieces and parts just flop around. I was able to print a replacement piece for it so I now have that installed. From what I can tell I have done exactly as you say in your video however, I'm still having the same problem where the filament gets to the gears and the gears just spin but never grab onto the filament. I notice you fully tighten the spring which I have also done. I'm curious, when it's all put back together how freely should the yellow gear spin if I try to do it by hand. I imagine slight resistance which is about where I am. How tight should the four screws in the back be? I may have them too tight which would be sandwhiching it too much. That's really the only two things I can come up with. I have an X1C with an AMS purchased in October 2024. I also put in a brand new .06mm hardened steel complete hotend kit today so there's no way my stuff is still clogged yet it's still doing the exact same thing. Any advice you might be able to offer up would be so appreciated. Sorry so wordy...think I'm gonna copy/paste this over to Reddit too. Thanks so much for your insight and expertise. In the making of this video I actually had a very similar issue. I had replaced the complete hotend extruder assembly and I still had the filament not grabbing. I made the video anyway and it seemed to fix it the following time for whatever reason. I'm not entirely sure what fixed it though. As for the gear spinning, from memory it spins quite freely, so maybe instead of over tightening, try backing off so it doesnt have any resistance. I also feel like the filament I was using which was all quite old was giving the issue too. Newer rolls did not have problem grabbing. I hope you find a fix to yours, fb groups and reddit will be good sources. Sorry Im not the greatest help though but thank you for subscribing and watching :)

@@DraftIDthe reson that no one mentioning is the back lid of the extruder, You can’t just screw it down sins it then pinch the gears to much. You need to put thread lock on the screws, then gently screw them down until you feel the slightest resistance. Let the thread lock set and dry. Then stick a piece of filament in the top, start tightening the screws that tightens the spring while pushing and pulling the filament true, I also put a finger on the gear to lock it while pulling the filament back to make sure it can’t easily slip. When thats done mark the hight of the screw with a white marker, screw it out some more. Add some thread lock screw it back to the marked position and let it set. Then install it in the machine. I use a small amount of lubricant on the big gear, if thats correct or not I don’t know sins bambu lab shows one thing in instruction video and another thing in there wiki gear instructions! Hope this helps! I get perfect feeding every time after cleaning the gears and I still run original x1c gears with more than 1500h of print!

big help mate, i had filament stuck in my extruder and this was the fix. Also the official Bambu guide has a different extruder with different cables, so yours was helpfdul to ensure I was orienting evverything correctly on the reconnection.

@DraftID Indeed! Also, there's doesn't show the gear assembly actually coming out, and how the bearings, bushings, etc fit back together going in. I had a piece of filament stuck in mine that just made it all a bit more stressful. Took a lot more force than I was initially comfortable to pull the yellow gear out. Lol

I am the second owner of my X1C, I bought it at 2200 hours about 4 months ago and I just checked and its at 3043 hours now lol. I doubt the gears have ever been changed, I may do that soon as preventative maintenance. It only ever prints petg and pla though

I noticed issues with mine right after trying to print PAHT-CF. If your quality is still good you can probably keep going. If you start getting extrusion issues it would be one area to check.

How similar is this for the P1S?

P1S has the same hotend as the X1C but doesnt come with hardened gear set like the X1C so this guide is perfect for showing how to swap that out in the P1P/S so that you can print exotic materials like CF. Just make sure to also have a hardened steel nozzle too.
